Over three decades and numerous albums, industrial metal scene leaders Static-X are consummate survivors. Even after the untimely death of lead singer Wayne Static in 2014, the group has regenerated and continued to record new music while honoring the late frontman's legacy. Unlike their more straightforward '90s nu-metal counterparts, Static-X were heavily influenced by house music, blending influences like Pantera with the electronic stylings of Prodigy and the Crystal Method to define their sound.
Static-X were originally formed in 1994 after Wayne Static's former band, Deep Blue Dream (featuring a pre-Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan), broke up. Along with drummer Ken Jay and guitarist Emerson Swinford, Static relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles and the trio formed a band called DRILL. Swinford left the band and was replaced by Koichi Fukuda, and Static-X was born.
The band's first album came out in 1999 at the height of the nu-metal era. Wisconsin Death Trip contained the singles "Push It," "I'm With Stupid" and "Bled For Days." They played Ozzfest to support the album and released an EP, The Death Trip Continues, the following year.
Fukuda departed Static-X soon after, and in 2001 the band released their sophomore effort: Machine. The following year, Wayne Static's vocals were featured on the Queen Of The Damned: Music From the Motion Picture soundtrack ("Not Meant For Me," written by Korn's Jonathan Davis). Jay left the band shortly after, and in 2003 Static-X's third album, Shadow Zone, was released, featuring "The Only" and "So" as singles. Replacing Jay was former Seether drummer Nick Oshiro.
In 2004, Static-X released Beneath... Between... Beyond..., a collection of rarities and demos. The band released their fourth album, Start A War, in 2005 with "I'm the One" and "Dirthouse" released as singles. In 2007, Static-X shared a fifth album, Cannibal, which had music ("No Submission") featured on the Saw III soundtrack. Also in 2007, the band shared their exclusive Destroyer EP and toured on Ozzfest once more.
In 2009, the band released their fifth album, Cult Of Static. The album single "Lunatic" appeared on the soundtrack to Marvel's Punisher: War Zone. Oshiro left Static-X around this time and was replaced by touring drummer Will Hunt.
By the 2010s, the members of Static-X had split off to concentrate on separate projects, and Static toured with a solo band under the Static-X name. In 2013, the band announced that they were officially breaking up, though Static continued to play the band's material on tour as a solo act. In 2014, Static died at 48 ostensibly due to a long history of substance abuse, though officially his death was termed a natural one.
A few years after Static's death, the former band members reunited and began to parse through old unreleased demos. Composing new songs from that material resulted in Project Regeneration, which came out in two volumes, the first of which dropped in summer 2020. To support the album, the newly reformed Static-X toured with a new, masked frontman named "Xer0," who was rumored to be Edsel Dope of Dope. The band also released a single, "Hollow," which peaked in the Top 15 in the U.S. Dance/Electronic chart.

I got to stand at the very front of all 4 set of the bands playing! I had the best time of my life! Everybody was amazed at the bands! They did a very good job! The Aztec was clean & fresh.
The venue sucked. The people sucked. The whole atmosphere was so negative compared to every other show I've been too. Everyone seemed fake and had attitudes to match. Versus shows where "real" fans attended. The venue only sounds good when you're in the very center of it otherwise the bands sound horrible everywhere else. With so many people crammed in the AC or fans should have been turned on but they weren't so it was stuffy and uncomfortable. You have to pay for parking pay for tickets and then one drink cost $13! Not even a drink it was one shot. The advertisement leading up to the event were confusing so we had to call to confirm which bands would actually be there then thanks to everything else we only watched one band before leaving due to the constant rude behavior of most other attendees. Will not go back to the HOB for anything.
Dope the band, Mushroomhead, Fear Factory, and Static-X put on a fantastic show. It was killer performance by all members and I would definitely go again if given the chance.
This was the best show I’ve seen in a while. They really are doing Wayne proud and I love that they pay tribute to him at their shows. Fantastic job! Can’t wait to see them again!
Static-X did a killer job performing! The lighting and sound were perfect! The beer is very expensive, we get our eyes poked out big time on that. But a great experience at the venue. The staff was nice and the bathrooms were fine. One staff member did lead me to the wrong seat, but it was no big deal, he corrected it and apologized.
The entry was smooth. Directions given by the staff were clear. The bartenders hustled. The music was amazing and the bands put on great shows!
Static x, Mushroomhead and Dope were great! The venue on the other hand was small, the bar was was hard to get to because everyone was hanging out in front of it. I had to wait in a very long line between sets at the restroom
I had a great time at HOB. The bands were awesome. The lighting, sound, and people were fun. I would definitely recommend this venue for all types of shows. Static X knows how to put on a great show!
It was pretty good. Lines moved relatively fast. Everyone was friendly down to the bands. We had a great time.
Static X and Mushroomhead Slayed. Fear Factory butchered the set hard. Not sure what happened but everything was off. I’ve heard they are normally really good though. Crowed was awesome. Van Buren was the place to see them. Mushroomhead came out and took pictures with fans after the set. By the end of the night people had shirts off and high fiving and bro hugging. Show was legit!!!
Everyone took putting on a show to the extreme! The theatrics just awesome. Loved the interaction. One of the best !!!
Eveything was bad a**!... except 1 thing... you need to crank the A/C or AIR when the music cranks up!... 😂 Overall... Me an my brother had a blast!.. Mushroomhead killed it!.. DOPE killed it!.. and STATIC X RIPPED IT UP!!!... 🤘🏽 AHEE HEE!!!.. (THANK YOU)
All the bands on the bill killed it. 10/10 would go again.
Everything was great, the staff was friendly, the upgrades were worth it, though I was they had private bathrooms for the mezzanine level

I totally enjoyed the venue. Clean, spacious and the workers were very friendly. Totally awesome!. One of the best venues thus far. Ive been going to concerts for 20years.. Thank You Static-X!!!
For bands I dont really listen to much, it was a lot of fun getting to see them live and made we want to listen to them more often. It did noth disappoint.
