I love Start Making Sense! They are an accomplished group of musicians and singers. With the addition of The Immaculate Horns for this tour, the concert was an incredible experience with peaks that only a few other concerts can match. They blew the roof off the place!
Great musicians but naming the show "Start Making Sense" is a bit misleading. Much of the material is David Byrne outside of the Talking Heads. Yes, Talking Heads songs are played but too much of non-Talking Heads. The show should be called "The David Byrne Experience."
So much talent on the stage!! Great show. Totally enjoyed it. Everyone was dancing. Highly recommend
What an amazing, fun band! The horn section, the female vocalist, the lead singer, the drummer, the guitarist, the keyboard all rocked!
Gosh Darn it these guys are tight AF. I will without a doubt catch these guys again. The guy doing the percussion parts in particular blew me away
The band was great. Turns out I could have purchased the tickets for $30 each from the Stone Pony box office instead of $75 each through Ticketmaster. Not happy about that. Oh well.
First time to XL Live, finally Harrisburg has a venue that is going to bring in a lot of performers. Nice. Great show. I've seen Stop Making Sense several times before the pandemic and that's because they are a great show, and they still are. Keep on going!
I was very impressed with this tribute band. I am a HUGE Talking Heads/David Byrne fan and was blown away at how well Start Making Sense performed. I thoroughly enjoyed the show, will definitely see again if I have the chance and highly recommend to anyone who's a fan of the Talking Heads/David Byrne AND St. Vincent.
Such a fun night! This band rocks and the addition of the horn section took it over the top. XLLIVE is my favorite venue. Plenty of space, several bars AND a huge outdoor deck complete w chairs and fire tables? I can sit outside w a cocktail and hear great live music? I’m in heaven! Although I have to admit, I never sat down; danced the entire night!
Spot on performance with 7 members performing with precision of Talking Heads music . All together this is a great show they put on . Crowd was dancing to the music making the show fun to watch . The band all was outstanding playing in unison. Lead singer and band members had all the moves of the Talking Heads and sounded just as good . Loved the show and would see again if in the northeast performing . Glad I made the trip to see them . THANK YOU to the band and State Street Theater
Finally got to see Start Making Sense. The music was spot on, thestage presence was great, SO MUCH FUN! I am a Deadhead and have seen DSO. Start Making Sense was like the DSO of The Talking Heads.
Saw start making sense. It was great to hear the songs but they are not even close to being the band they are covering. Lead singer has great energy but girl back up shoukd be your lead singer. She is percise and clear just like original.
The entire performance was incredible. The band is amazing and really go above and beyond to pay tribute to the Stop Making Sense movie as well as the Talking Heads music. Lots of fun and a must see!
Painstakingly accurate recreation of the original concert and film of 1983/4. Even the songs that were cut from the film got performed after the “credits”. No disrespect to the regular bass player, but Julie Slick was a treat, especially watching her stick-straightened hair re-frizz through the performance! Untamable, just like pig-pen after a bath. The band is talented and pays a great homage to one of the best bands and most fun live performances of all time
To pull off simulating the concert film is so hard to do, and they did it fabulously. Truly an experience.
Start Making Sense took me back to seeing Talking Heads in Boston in the early 80's. They did such a great job recreating the best concert I've ever been to!
The Paramount Theater is really neat and has great sound. Start Making Sense put on a great show and people were dancing the entire time. I try to see them every chance I get!
The band is spot on. Talking Heads catalog is played we zeal. You not only see and hear all the work and dedication that went into this level of performance, you also feel the love. Simply put, go see them no matter what. The addition of Julie Slick to the Asbury Park performance was an awesome treat.
Just to be clear, I didn't stick around for Start Making Sense, this is a review of the Samantha Fish Band show on 06/20/19. I had just seen her last time she was in town, at Flower City, and that was an incredible show- the variety of musicians she tours with and musical genres she encompasses was incredible that evening. This past Thursday at Anthology was a thoroughly unenjoyable experience, which can be completely attributed to the sound engineer in my opinion. He had created an over-powering blended mush of bass, drums, and keys to the point where nothing sounded clear, and then to make up for it, he EQed her guitar to only put out a very narrow treble 'noise'. All we could hear was an obnoxios sizzle of her overdrive effect. There was zero tonality on any instrument. Feel like this is happening at more and more shows I go to, but this one was particularly bad.
