STARS IN CONCERT:

Concertgoers are in for an emotional tour de force the minute indie pop collective Stars steps on stage. For more than two decades the he said-she-said dynamic of singers Torquill Campbell and Aimee Millan has been making fans swoon with sentimental bliss. Ticket buyers will be treated to highlights from the band's rich and diverse catalog of emotive tunes, from the heart-wrenching "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead" to the tender "Do You Want To Die Together?". The vulnerability behind Campbell and Milan's soft voices pairs seamlessly with the band's flourishing instrumentation, resulting in a strikingly raw live experience fans won't want to miss.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Singer Torquill Campbell and keyboardist Christopher Seligman formed Stars in Toronto in 1998. The duo released their debut album Nightsongs in 2001 before rounding out their sound with bassist Evan Cranley, singer/guitarist Aimee Millan, and drummer Patrick McGee. Their sophomore effort, 2003's Heart, was a delicately crafted collection of chamber pop tunes that earned them a Juno nomination for Alternative Album of the Year and a co-headlining North American tour with Broken Social Scene. Their standout third album, 2004's Set Yourself On Fire, was recorded while the band lived under one roof during a harsh Canadian winter. The resulting set of melancholy tunes was critically praised and spawned some of the band's biggest hits to date including "Ageless Beauty" and "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead". Since then Stars has released six studio albums including 2012's electro pop-driven The North and 2014's surprisingly dance-heavy No One Is Lost.

    Fantastic show

by qwer3 on 3/10/13Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

I have loved Stars since '07 and was psyched to get to see them live, and they surpassed my expectations - they sounded great, loved the audience interaction, they were having fun, played new and old songs and everyone was terrific. Would definitely catch them if you can.

    I saw no stars

by Be720 on 10/23/12Mayan Theater - Los Angeles

I listened to "Stars" new album and I was instantly hooked! Their music is incredible but sadly, I felt like the show was extremely inconsistent. One song was energetic and then the other was super slow. It was extremely awkward. I go to a show almost every week and this show was by far the most disappointing. The opening bands were no where near similar to "Stars" which means the crowd was inconsistent. I just couldn't connect at all. I was waiting for their song "progress" and it never happened. I wished I could have drank more.

Not a great venue for a Stars show as it's all seating. The show itself was fantastic.

    Stars - Must see show

by StarsAmyandEvanRock on 10/22/12Mayan Theater - Los Angeles

What can I say? If you haven't seen Stars, you're missing out. Simple as that. They get the crown into the music like few bands can. A majority of Stars fans are loyal followers and most know the lyrics and sing/dance along with Torq, Amy & Evan (No offense to Chris and Patty). It's an event not to be missed in LA or any other city/town!!

An incredible show! Favorite moments include when the giant disco ball descended during "Hold On When You Get Love," the intimate encore of "The 400," and when the entire audience sang "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead" together. I hope Torquil was telling the truth when he said they would be back to LA soon. :)

    Amazing performance

by Ashes235 on 10/21/12Mayan Theater - Los Angeles

STARS were great live! I highly recommend the Mayan Theater as well (although, side note- security staff pretty rude). They played a lot of their older songs too which was nice! A good mix!

Stars put on an incredible heartfelt show

by NWVG on 10/20/12Mayan Theater - Los Angeles

Stars played for over 90 minutes with a combination of every one of their older hits along with all of the songs off of their new album The North. Every member of the band exhibited enthusiasm and appreciation for their fans. I love supporting bands who have a passion for music and their fans instead of simply touring for money. Stars put small twists on each of their live songs so that they were familiar enough for casual fans, but they felt new for all of us in the crowd who has listened to them hundreds of times before.

Stars put on a great show, once again. A good mix of Torq, Amy, and Torq and Amy songs, with high energy beats and quiet serenading.

This was my second time seeing Stars in the last 4 years. They are just as amazing live as I remembered. Their new album is unforgettable and their show priceless.

The setlist was fantastic, crowd was fantastic... Diamond Rings and California Wives were pretty great too. Venue was great, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to use my DSLR but there were no problems

Stars were great, the sound system was horrible.

Overall, the sound was horrible, muffled bass with barely audible vocals

Good show. Webster Hall needs to rethink

by Groovin on 9/24/12Webster Hall - New York

Show was good. Diamond Rings was really fun although a bit better recorded. Stars was strong as always even if they seem to be on the decline in terms of energy. Last time I saw them was 4 years ago. The venue is nice but $5 for a bottle of water (and the refusal) to hand you a cup of water and very limited bathrooms facilities added up to a bad experience with the place.

    Great music, poor showing

by Anonymous on 9/24/12Webster Hall - New York

This was my first time seeing Stars, and I loved the show....right up until they told the crowd the band had another show that night, then cut the evening short after playing only 90 minutes. Maybe I shouldn't expect more than that, but to me a concert should be at MINIMUM 2 hours. Just felt like the paying crowd of their first show got shorted so they could go play their free show later that night.

Stars and Diamond Rings were amazing. I didn't realize it at the time but Stars went on to play another show later that night. If anything it makes their set at Webster Hall even more impressive. They have such energy and tons and tons of talent.

Stars were very good, whole experience not so much

by Tom17 on 9/24/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

The show was on a Friday night and it took us 1/2 hour to find a parking spot and 1/2 hour to walk from there back to the Paradise. We were willing to pay for parking but the parking lots that we found close to the venue would allow us to stay only for 2 hours maximum. That is not enough time for a concert. Bottom line: very difficult parking should be factored in your decision to attend a show at the Paradise (if, as me, you have to drive to it, of course). The first opening act was good and in line with the Stars' style. The second opening act (the one right before Stars) had a music style completely unrelated to the Stars' one. If I go to see a band, I expect opening acts that are at least somewhat similar. I did not like at all the music of the second act (though some may like it) and I would have rather had no music at all than that.

The show started later than I'm used to, but the opening acts were really good - I definitely am now a fan of 2 new bands! Once Stars got on, though, the place EXPLODED - everyone got really into the songs and the atmosphere was very lively and upbeat. I loved how they played a variety of songs - not just ones from their latest album (which is amazing, by the way). The two lead singers are so endearing - you can't help but love them! After the show ended, all I could think of was how I want to see them live again! Amazing, amazing concert!
