About

ST. VINCENT IN CONCERT:

Possessing a rare combination of art-school appeal and mainstream accessibility, St. Vincent's Annie Clark is well on her way to full blown pop stardom. From her collaborations with David Byrne and Sufjan Stevens to her acclaimed work as St. Vincent, Clark has demonstrated an unbridled creativity and commitment to pop experimentation, making her a favorite with fans and critics alike. Her recordings may be stunning, but it's her talents as a performer that really make Clark stand out — taking the stage in an architectural gown, Clark's otherworldly movements and ethereal vocals are the stuff of legend, making her 2014 tour dates a must for any fan of true avant-pop spectacle.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Oklahoma, Annie Clark, a.k.a. St. Vincent, took up the guitar at age 12, going on to play in her high school's jazz band as a teenager. After spending three years at Boston's Berklee College of Music in the early '00s, Clark dropped out to pursue real-world musical experience, joining the Polyphonic Spree for their European tour. In 2006, she left the band to join Sufjan Steven's touring band, beginning to record as St. Vincent the same year. Her 2007 debut album  Marry Me received praise for its intricate arrangements and unexpected compositional twists, paving the way for the success of 2009 sophomore effort Actor, a Top 10 hit on Billboard's Independent Albums Chart. With the early-2014 release of her fifth album, Clark once again drew unilateral praise from critics, cracking the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 and embarking on an international headlining tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

" Even better live than on her albums, St. Vincent lit up the Fox. It was an awesome mashup reminiscent of Bowie, Mercury and Gaga. I loved it, and will be back for more."

"Gorgeous songs, surprising choreography, enchanted excitement. I urge anyone who loves sophisticated pop to see this show."

"Yes, yes, yes, and yes! Great playing, awesome sound, killer production aesthetics and an overall great SHOW. St. Vincent and her band are kicking butt and taking names."

Prior to the concert, I hadn't listened to too much St. Vincent, but this show converted me into a fan! Annie Clark has an absolutely wonderful voice, and a good sense of how much between-song narration is necessary to make a show enjoyable! I would go see her again (only next time, I'd try and be more familiar with the music first)!

Awesome show, amazing lighting, great set list! She is just so great live.

  • Annie Clark is a delight!

Wow this show was awesome! I saw St Vincent in May at Our Concert Could Be your Life where she covered two Big Black songs absolutely shredding them. Seeing her do her own material here was just as memorable!

She played a bunch of songs on her new album but some of the old greats from Actor. She was incredible and played so hard she broke her guitar halfway through a song. She was funny and entertaining and her voice was even more beautiful in person. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

St. Vincent is amazing in concert - she really toys with the audience with her amazing stage presence and the minor variations she brings to performance to keep you on your toys. It's like she's yanking your chain just a little, but you like it. One thing: the venue was super crowded, like accidentally elbow someone if your upper arms aren't glued to your side, but I'm a flexible dancer, so this wasn't so bad. Just a little disappointing.

Unbelievable. Annie Clark is one of the most talented and versatile artists playing today and seeing her live really solidified that.

  • Great as always

New band is good. Annie's stage presence is much improved

  • Fierce woman, owned the stage.

Amazing show, blew me away. She was so powerful on stage, even crowd surfed. Wouldn't hesitate ever buying a ticket again. Not a fan of the opening act or venue though.

  • St. Vincent ROCKS

Annie and crew definitely know how to put on a show. She is so talented--one of the best shows I've seen. We got most if not all of the new album and some past hits (the party!!), I think they played for a solid two hours. The encore was icing on the cake. GREAT SHOW!

  • I was expecting to go through the motions...

by Hpuddles on 10/21/11The Music Box - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Because this was a gift I bought for someone else. Not knowing the majority of the material, I was pleasantly surprised. In fact, a song that she played during her encoure brought me to tears. She clearly has a well thought out sound and has a distinct way of playing the guitar along with her eclectic pedalboard(the two together is a match made in heaven). Her voice..... It's not often you see a girl that knows her way around the fret board along with incredible vocal control and tonality/style. Alas, it's all her and it's brave as hell and it moved me. Enough said.

  • The musicbox has yet to disappoint me.

St. Vincent - anything I say would not do her music justice. Here goes anyway: Phenomenal.

This was one of the best shows I've ever been too. And the newly renovated Music Box may be my new favourite venue!

  • Awesome!

This show made me an even bigger fan than I was. Great voice, solid guitar playing. The crowd was ready for a second encore. Highly recommend checking St Vincent out. I expected less of a show, since her music is fairly mellow, but she and her band blew me away!

  • Best Show Ever

Annie Clarke is a true artist. Haunting, beautiful, delicate, powerful. Best show I have ever seen.

  • Left me speechless

by siimplymichelle on 10/20/11The Music Box - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Annie Clark may have a soft and gentle voice but she can definitely rock out. Watching her gave me chills. She put on an amazing show. Didn't play a lot of her older stuff but that is to be expected since she just put out a new album. Would of been an even better time if the drunk girl behind me didn't spill her beer and scream at the top of her lungs every chance she got. Not to mention the venue was amazing, very 1920s. All in all an amazing show and I can't wait to see St Vincent again.

  • St. Vincent

by AndreBurks on 10/20/11The Music Box - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

I was skeptical at first about this venue due to negative reviews. My personal experience was quite great. The Music Box had a great atmosphere, was nice and small, which I prefer for an indie artist, and the interior was very detailed. I didn't buy drinks, but I'm sure they were expensive for what they were. The music was just at the right volume, Annie was really great with the crowd, and she was quite the performer as well. Her guitar playing skills are amazing! I honestly don't feel I will be going here again soon since it was kind of out of my way to here (I live in San Francisco) but if I lived in LA, I would come again.

  • She's a guitar GOD!

by ArtLab on 10/20/11The Music Box - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Before this show I wasn't a big fan, but I was blown away by her performance. Her talent, the sound system, the lighting and effects, came together for one of the best concerts I've scene in a long time. The effortless way she can rip through difficult guitar jams left me in awe. Her singing and songwriting are beautiful and devastating at the same time. I'm defiantly a big fan now.

  • Annie Clark is a Genius.

by CodesAndClues on 10/20/11The Music Box - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

I don't throw words like "genius" around lightly. Annie Clark is a genius. There is nothing else like St. Vincent. The music is smart and quirky and surprising. And Annie Clark is adorable. All of this might make you think that St. Vincent is for pointy-heads who like pretty girls - not that there is anything wrong with that - but that hardly describes what you get at a St. Vincent performance. Annie Clark's voice is sweet, but her guitar-playing is aggressive (which makes for an unsettling and interesting combination), and the music feels like it is on the edge of chaos, ready to break loose at any moment and go off the rails.

She's incredible!!! Such an amazing talent and artist!!!
