ST. VINCENT IN CONCERT:

Possessing a rare combination of art-school appeal and mainstream accessibility, St. Vincent's Annie Clark is well on her way to full blown pop stardom. From her collaborations with David Byrne and Sufjan Stevens to her acclaimed work as St. Vincent, Clark has demonstrated an unbridled creativity and commitment to pop experimentation, making her a favorite with fans and critics alike. Her recordings may be stunning, but it's her talents as a performer that really make Clark stand out — taking the stage in an architectural gown, Clark's otherworldly movements and ethereal vocals are the stuff of legend, making her 2014 tour dates a must for any fan of true avant-pop spectacle.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Oklahoma, Annie Clark, a.k.a. St. Vincent, took up the guitar at age 12, going on to play in her high school's jazz band as a teenager. After spending three years at Boston's Berklee College of Music in the early '00s, Clark dropped out to pursue real-world musical experience, joining the Polyphonic Spree for their European tour. In 2006, she left the band to join Sufjan Steven's touring band, beginning to record as St. Vincent the same year. Her 2007 debut album  Marry Me received praise for its intricate arrangements and unexpected compositional twists, paving the way for the success of 2009 sophomore effort Actor, a Top 10 hit on Billboard's Independent Albums Chart. With the early-2014 release of her fifth album, Clark once again drew unilateral praise from critics, cracking the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 and embarking on an international headlining tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

" Even better live than on her albums, St. Vincent lit up the Fox. It was an awesome mashup reminiscent of Bowie, Mercury and Gaga. I loved it, and will be back for more."

"Gorgeous songs, surprising choreography, enchanted excitement. I urge anyone who loves sophisticated pop to see this show."

"Yes, yes, yes, and yes! Great playing, awesome sound, killer production aesthetics and an overall great SHOW. St. Vincent and her band are kicking butt and taking names."

  • Best experience of my life

    by Stvincentlover89 on 4/26/12Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

I can't stop thinking about the concert... It all felt surreal... I got to kiss Annie Clark during the crowd surfing... She's a badass! She know how to rock... Highly recommended.

This was a convergence of talent that I couldn't miss. I'd been waiting for a chance to see tUnE-yArDs live for the better part of a year, and this surpassed my expectations. They sound incredible live, and you get to marvel at the way each song is constructed as you watch and listen. Their sound is raw and honest and such a treat to experience first hand. St. Vincent is also incredibly talented and a joy to listen to, but her set seemed more forced. Contrived is too strong a word but that's what comes to mind. I was impressed at the sheer amount of sound she is capable of producing though.

  • True artists AND performers

    by Eric79 on 4/26/12Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen tUnE-yArDs three times now and this was probably the least overwhelming show of theirs but not because of them. However, that's not to say it was bad. Merrill is always a treat to see. The best is watching her loop the sounds for her songs and watch how it all comes together in the end product. I think the sound in the venue was the biggest issue. The vocals were much too low to pull off the whole effect. St.Vincent was somehow unaffected though. She sounded amazing. Looking amazing. Though she was hazed out by far too much smoke from the smoke machines. I have seen her a couple times now and am totally impressed by her live shows. She looks and talks like a fragile innocent girl but there is always a sense of menacing flirtation when she's singing and an explosion of violence as she rips the guitar. I don't think many people can imagine the amount of work she does to make the sounds she makes. She makes it all look effortless. Another mind blowing show.

  • Talk about a double billing

by Anonymous on 4/26/12Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

I was so happy with this show. Merrill Garbus of Tune-Yards is such a fearless and fabulously quirky performer. Whokill (forgive my laziness with the capitalization, or lack thereof) was one of my favorite albums of 2011, and she seemed truly grateful to be rocking out in Oakland. Good set length for a split show. St. Vincent was really great too. Impressive heavy sound, great stage presence, unexpectedly easy to groove to. She crowd surfed successfully, which is always worth brownie points to me.

  • Tuneyards, and St. Vincent were BOTH amazing!!!

    by MomKelly44 on 4/26/12Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

Both of these women are phenomenal musicians! I really came for Tuneyards, because St. Vincent albums all sound pretty similar to me. But seeing her live changes your opinion of her music and her prodigious talent. Frankly, she needs to cut loose in the studio the way she does on stage. At least, release a live album! I loved the eclectic mix. Tuneyards was predictably excellent. I had seen their coachella video. But St. Vincent started playing and my mind was blown! Anne is amazing, and I'm 41, but listening to her blend of 80s with punk overtones made me 16 again. I loved her live performance. She made me a fan.

  • Loved her... but her roadies were really nasty

by Dpastirchak on 2/21/12Webster Hall - New York CityRating: 4 out of 5

I really enjoyed seeing St. Vincent at webster Hall... I could go on and on about how great she was which will take forever. I will say I was disgusted with her roadies behavoir ( I can't say I m 100 percent sure they are HER roadies or Webster Halls people... but I'm 98 percent sure those were her people), usually at the end of the show people go to the front for souveneirs from the stage... one girl asks a roadie " I wanna do what you do, how did you get into doing what you're doing?"... granted she seemed naive and a bit off but she was nice and paid money to be there.... he just laughed right at her and gave her the look one would give a turd... it was so disgustingly rude and for me to feel this angry months later means... he was disgustingly rude. So me being me... I called him a D bag ( the full word) and told him that he could at least give her a two word answer... he just walked away, I think h was embarrased and wasn't expecting anyone to stand up for this girl. The roadies also refused to give out things that were being thrown away anyways... it seemed like they reveled in upsetting people who just wanted a set list or a guitar pick... people who paid money to be there. I also want to say that the bartender at Webster Hall, an attractive male who has an accent was rude, I asked for the cheapest beer he gave me the most expensive one, when I informed him of his mistake he looked like he was about to fix it but then looked at me and said " I already put that beer in there... I can;t just dump it out"... I paid the 9 bucks and didn;t tip him, the girl bartender next to him seemed to want to call him not so nice names... the look on her face made me feel better... she knew he was being nasty. I should of just tipped her instead.

  • St. Vincent was explosive!

by thedude716 on 12/17/11The Phoenix Concert Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

St. Vincent performed at The Phoenix Concert Theatre December 15th to what was probably a sold out crowd and amazed. Annie's on stage live performance was energetic and her backing band played well too. She can play the guitar just as good as any highly trained guitarist can and she shreds too. The light set up was intense and explosive, strobing and awesome. Overall, the show was insane with the various instruments on stage.

  • St. Vincent is simply stunning

    by Merin20 on 11/15/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

This chick rocks. The band never fails to put on a really great show. Her haunting, beautiful voice will rock your world and at the very least, make you smile.

  • Amazing Concert!

by ohios on 11/10/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Annie and her band put on a spectacular show, performing most of Strange Mercy along with several songs from her previous albums, as well as an incredible cover of The Pop Group's "She's Beyond Good And Evil".

  • by LoseTheHornsSam on 11/9/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

I really encourage you to go see Annie Clark sing, and play guitar and theremin. She is crazy talented. Not to mention, rock-your-world beautiful. Great long set - not a dull song in the mix. DO NOT let her leave with an encore.

  • Amazing

One of the best shows I've ever seen. Venue and everything about it was perfect.

  • by TJP891274 on 11/7/11Royale Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best shows I have ever been to hands down.

  • A tribute to their last album

by JebLeeds on 11/7/11Royale Boston - BostonRating: 2 out of 5

The crowd wasnt very energetic. They finished the set with like 4 songs from 2009. Was weird for them not to finish with material from their giant selling new album which they went on tour for. Left hysterical strength out of their lineup too.

  • by vp2013 on 11/6/11Royale Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

St. Vincent is one of the few real artists out there. Her voice and facial expressions are incredible. She is amazing live!

  • St Vincent at Royale

    by MWC6 on 11/6/11Royale Boston - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

The venue was great, plenty of room and good sound. The show was excellent, sound and lights were good and Annie Clark is a really captivating performer. Very unique guitar sounds, melodies and a beautiful voice. I'll be there next time she comes to Boston. Her band, especially key and organ, was really solid.

  • by Caraffe on 11/6/11Royale Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I really appreciate artists and bands who convey emotional investment in their work. St. Vincent does exactly that. They also did an awesome job of reinterpreting their songs rather than trying to match the album exactly. They are truly artists. Cate Le Bon opened for them and did some backup singing for them too. Her set, while simple, had my rapt attention. I was unexpectedly sucked in! She has talent, I'll tell you.

  • Captivating Performance

by philadelphonic on 11/6/11Royale Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Annie put on another extraordinary show. Her sound translates perfectly to a live performance, vastly enhancing songs that I'd fallen in love with from her recordings. She brings an enchanting stage presence and fiery nature to each song, showing that she feels every beat of every song she plays. I definitely look forward to seeing her again and would recommend the show to anyone, especially fans of her albums.

  • St. Vincent is a whole different level of amazing

by maryam on 11/6/11Royale Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best musicians of our time. She is a true musician. Writes her own music, shreds guitar like a beast and a voice of an angel. Seriously amazing.

I just wish it was a bit longer. It was amazing. <3 Annie Clark
