ST. VINCENT IN CONCERT:

Possessing a rare combination of art-school appeal and mainstream accessibility, St. Vincent's Annie Clark is well on her way to full blown pop stardom. From her collaborations with David Byrne and Sufjan Stevens to her acclaimed work as St. Vincent, Clark has demonstrated an unbridled creativity and commitment to pop experimentation, making her a favorite with fans and critics alike. Her recordings may be stunning, but it's her talents as a performer that really make Clark stand out — taking the stage in an architectural gown, Clark's otherworldly movements and ethereal vocals are the stuff of legend, making her 2014 tour dates a must for any fan of true avant-pop spectacle.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Oklahoma, Annie Clark, a.k.a. St. Vincent, took up the guitar at age 12, going on to play in her high school's jazz band as a teenager. After spending three years at Boston's Berklee College of Music in the early '00s, Clark dropped out to pursue real-world musical experience, joining the Polyphonic Spree for their European tour. In 2006, she left the band to join Sufjan Steven's touring band, beginning to record as St. Vincent the same year. Her 2007 debut album  Marry Me received praise for its intricate arrangements and unexpected compositional twists, paving the way for the success of 2009 sophomore effort Actor, a Top 10 hit on Billboard's Independent Albums Chart. With the early-2014 release of her fifth album, Clark once again drew unilateral praise from critics, cracking the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 and embarking on an international headlining tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

" Even better live than on her albums, St. Vincent lit up the Fox. It was an awesome mashup reminiscent of Bowie, Mercury and Gaga. I loved it, and will be back for more."

"Gorgeous songs, surprising choreography, enchanted excitement. I urge anyone who loves sophisticated pop to see this show."

"Yes, yes, yes, and yes! Great playing, awesome sound, killer production aesthetics and an overall great SHOW. St. Vincent and her band are kicking butt and taking names."

    Didn't go

by Didn't go on 10/24/21The Fillmore Detroit - Detroit

I have seen St Vincent three times in the past, all great shows. I should never have bought tickets. I'm just not ready to go to a crowded concert yet. I never had COVID and I'm vaccinated with booster. Sorry, Annie!

Absolutely one of the best shows I’ve seen in many years. Like Prince in his prime. An incredibly engaging and amazing show from start to finish.

One of the best shows I’ve seen

by BMoo on 10/23/21The Fillmore Detroit - Detroit

Simply amazing. Annie plays ever song with the energy of the last song in a stadium set. Also loved that she reworked some of her older material to fit the vibe of the new album. Very clever to have standup comedy as the opening act.

    absolutely amazing

by James on 10/23/21The Fillmore Detroit - Detroit

The Fillmore was the perfect venue for this funky trip back to rock n roll's heyday of the 1970's. St. Vincent held the stage from the start and never let it go. An amazing performance.

Great musician but wierd stage persona

by CJ on 10/23/21The Fillmore Detroit - Detroit

While Annie Clarks musical chops were on full display and did not disappoint, the 70s era persona she inhabits particularly the somewhat patronizing interplay with the audience, was sometimes a distraction. She even tossed a hanky or two into the audience that seemed contrived. We took several guests not really familiar with her work who were really perplexed by it. Its took a while to get into the Motown-like sound of her new album as its so distant from the decade of performances before it, but both Ms Clark and her singers sang great. While Detroit was her last venue so I'm sure fatigue had set in, the last 3-4 songs including the encore were so somber that our two 30 something guests left before the concert ended.

by Happyfan on 10/18/21Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

St Vincent of course was spectacular and the Wang of course amazing unfortunately we had an extremely rude Usher who yelled at us to put our Masks on we are not from Boston and had shown our vax card and passed by five Usher's including at the entry to the theater, none of them told us it was a mask mandate we are completely for mask mandates and vaccination shows but the rudeness of the Usher was uncalled fo Also the sound was bad we couldnt hear her wonderful lyrics over the guitar

    Best Show in Years

by EndHaiku on 10/17/21Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

St. Vincent clearly learned from David Byrne that you don’t put on a concert… you put on a show. She captured a feeling and emitted a vibe without having to overly choreograph, the musicians were top shelf, and kept everyone on their feet the whole performance. This is a must see and the first truly great performance since the pandemic started to wain.

    Power funk meets heavy metal

by Matt5 on 10/17/21Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

A thoroughly wonderful concert, with tight, funky rhythms laying down the foundation for angular, virtuoso guitar playing. Reminded me of a Prince concert and I mean that as a compliment! Although it was totally original and not copying anyone. Anne was very engaging with the crowd, each song was tight and crisp. And very inventive - while you could hear influences of Talking Heads, or Prince, it was all her own show. They brought along three back up singers, and the vocals were very strong. I am a new fan to St. Vincent, but this concert converted me to becoming a devoted fan.

    St V Reigns Queen

by Sara on 10/16/21Radio City Music Hall - New York

Check in line was long (due to void vaccine checks) but efficient. Drink line was long and expensive. Ushers were helpful; seats were comfy. Show was really great with St Vincent, though it was a bit hard to see from where we were. Production was amazing

    Testing 1,2,3

by norbel on 10/15/21Radio City Music Hall - New York

First time seeing St. Vincent live. I‘ve seen her on tv, YouTube, familiar with her music but I wonder did they do a sound check? The show was great but her first couple of words of her first song, either the mic was off or low. Her mouth moved and there was nothing. This actually set the stage for the rest of the show. Sound tech must have been riding levels at 12. Music was plenty loud, drowning the vocals. Hardly heard the back up singers and if you were not familiar with the songs, you would think Annie wasn’t singing. I was sitting a few rows in front of the mixing board, don’t know if they were mixing by speakers or using headphones but clearly they could have done a better job. All in all, Annie knocked it out of the park with her performance. Sound crews should pay better attention to the mix.

    My 1st St Vincent show

by T-Bone on 10/15/21Radio City Music Hall - New York

Have listened to the band’s music for several years but went to the Radio City show with no clear expectations. Annie Clarke has an amazing stage presence, and her backing vocalists and band mates were awesome. Of course, the sound quality at Radio City was perfect. After seeing them live, I’ve become an even bigger fan of St. Vincent. If you have a chance to see them, don’t pass it up
