    Great Festival!

by Squamish13 on 8/12/13Loggers Sports Grounds - Squamish

Loved the festival - great line-up and well organized. Things I would change: I would spend a lot more money on beer in the beer gardens if it wasn't $8.00 for a can of Canadian and loading wristbands wasn't such a production. It would be awesome if people over 19 had a different colour wristband or something so that ID wasn't necessary all the time. The 11pm cutoff to get back onto the site from the camping area wasn't well advertised and shouldn't affect campers as one of the benefits of staying on site is that you don't have to pack all your stuff around for the whole evening. Line-Up: I loved the bands I saw however I think that Vampire Weekend may not have been a great choice for a headliner. The show was too mellow and it seemed like a lot of people left to go find something else to do during that show. They are a great band but would have been better in the afternoon.

SVMF can be a blast. It's in a gorgeous location, gets great acts and if you come to the festival "from within the chill place in your mind" you'll set yourself up for having a great time. The camping portion of the festival needs some logistical work though. Site maintenance was abysmal. Festival staff were mainly volunteers who didn't know anything and weren't treated so great by their employers. All around there were a lot of glitches is their plans that made things sloppy for the festival organizers and the attendees. The music side of it was great - lots of different stages to choose from with different vibes. I did not take advantage of the 19+ areas because of the constant lines but the DJ stage at night looked fun. There were loads of free swag available from festival supporters (like LG and The Peak). Bottom line: did I still have fun? YEAH! I loved it! You just gotta go with the flow and learn to squat over the overflowing porta- potties. :)

    Nothing can top Tragically Hip

by Anonymous on 8/28/12Loggers Sports Grounds - Squamish

don't expect to sleep, but expect a good time. we arrived early, and reserved a good spot away from the real partyers as we had brought our son. Food was great and lots of booths and merch, concert area was wide open so we were able to sit during most of the day until the Hip.

Great festival, amazing venue, but VIP worthless

by PlaidSuspenders on 8/28/12Loggers Sports Grounds - Squamish

Overall festival itself was 5/5. The value drops a notch for having bought a VIP ticket. I did fork over for Glamping, and this was the key to the weekend - a separate (and very close) entrance, easy parking, access to showers, *lots of clean bathrooms*, and a chill after-hours music stage. Amazing and brilliant idea. The list of performers was also excellent - top notch, and all in very fine form - it definitely seemed like all the performers really enjoyed playing the festival. Unfortunately, I also shelled out for VIP tickets, which got me... well, I'm really not sure, other than 100$ poorer. There was a "VIP" area off to the side of the main stage, which was great if you like watching a concert through an 8' fence from 500+ feet away, on a gravel parking lot, and having poorly maintained bathroom facilities. This area was sponsored by Bacardi - where they promptly ran out of rum & coke. Also, exactly zero lines were skipped by waving my magical VIP band. In summary - Go to Live @ Squamish! It was amazing! (Just don't bother with the VIP tickets).
