    Tour cast was great!

by knobs on 7/16/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

Great tour production of Spring Awakening, we enjoyed the play twice in Baltimore at the beautiful Hippodrome. If you get the chance to see it on tour, do so. It is a great modern musical, the music is powerful, as is the story.

    Awakened disappointment

by Highclimber on 7/16/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

Maybe i went to the show with high expectations. Im a relatively young person who LOVES, the theatre and travels to baltimore to see shows when i can. The show let me down on all those levels. It did have its moments of humor, but it took a while to figure out what was going on with what seemed to be random scenes. I was disappointed with the screaming/yelling vocals into the microphone. I felt like the shows music was trying to be a bombastic form of Rent. I also thought the physical love scene was too much. Sounds prudish, but . . . it seemed unneccessary and cheapened the experience for me. The passion seemed to all be in the wrong places. The Performing Arts Center was in itself a pleasure to be there and parking was easy to find.

    Spring Awakening was fabulous!

by cancin83 on 7/16/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

I took my fiance to see this as a birthday present. Neither one of us had ever been to a Broadway musical before, but he said he wanted to do something different, so I thought this would be cool. Boy were we NOT disappointed. It was awesome. The opening number gave me goosebumps. My fiance sat transfixed for the entire first act. The music was great, the actors were great. The script was humorous but meaningful at the same time. Everything was intense. The content is heavily sexual...but it is very tastefully done. 5 stars all the way! I would see this again. We're both hooked on musicals now...

    Great show!

by britty618 on 7/16/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

I saw the show on Broadway last summer and went to Baltimore to see it again this summer. This is the best musical I have seen...it makes you laugh and cry! Kyle Riabko does an amazing job as Melchior.

    Spring Awakening was incredible!!!

by jsandjv on 7/16/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

I can't say enough about this musical. I had no idea what to expect. I took my 80 year old Mother and as we were watching the musical unfold before our eyes, I got a bit uncomfortable in a couple of scenes, but the dialouge that started during intermission with my Mother was something I will cherish for always. She shared her adolesent years with me and we had never had such conversations before. If I had a teenage daughter or son, I would definitely take them. I loved it so much that I went with my husband the very next night! The cast is amazing! All of them!! The music is great as well. I would recommend this to anyone!!

    Fantastic

by captainbackfire on 7/16/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

Spring Awakening was absolutely fantastic! It is edgy and original, a breath of fresh air for a broadway that seems to be tirelessly re-making old musicals or simply turning motion pictures into musicals. Wouldn't recommend it for a young audience, but it is very eye-opening and enjoyable. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll definitely want to see it more than once.

    Truly beautiful to behold!

by spudfish on 7/16/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

Spring Awakening has been on my top priority list to see ever since my sister told me about it the year before they won all those Tony Awards. The music pulls you in and doesn't let go. Although it is set in the 1800s and in Germany, the struggles that the characters must go through transcend time. It truly made me breathless.

    Great show

by DDub38 on 7/16/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

A Broadway musical about rebellious insecure teenage angst, sex, abortion, suicide, experimenting in homosexuality, AND conjugating Latin? All put to a smart and well written Indie rock score - what's not to like? OK, so the plot is dated and lost being controversial years if not decades ago, the sheer energy and talents of the cast, band, and creators have given the themes fresh legs and modern relevance.

    Spring Awoke

by Springtimefan on 7/15/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

Other than the slightly unexpected nudity (which elicited quite a few belly laughs from the audience once the actors resumed their positions), Spring Awakening is a great show to open a dialogue with teenaged children. The cast was phenomenal, especially Blake Bashoff. I've been a fan since I saw him on Judging Amy, and seeing him perform live was amazing. The girls were all awesome (not in the overly-used sense of the word) and Wendla's "Mama Who Bore Me" and "Whispering" were sung in a beautiful head voice. Definitely see this show if possible. I saw it at the Hippodrome Theater; it's coming to the Kennedy Center very soon (if it hasn't already come), and is definitely worth the money. I loved it.

    Spring Awakening was Great!

by Twsnangel on 7/15/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

My sister and I surprised our mom with tickets to Spring Awakening for her birthday. It was a wonderful show, though obviously appropriate for a mature audience only. For a 'coming of age' tale, I laughed, cried, rejoiced and despaired with the characters and left feeling completely fufilled. It was an amazing show.

    Spring Re-Awakening

by Yertle on 7/15/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

This incredible show uses modern musical voices to express the frustration that youth felt even a century ago and an ocean away. Duncan Sheik's music is a perfect vocabulary for the melding of angst and anger; lust and love.

    Skeptic no more!

by melchior on 7/15/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

I went into Spring Awakening very skeptical . I bought the tickets for my girlfriend for her birthday and basically was expecting to suck it up for 2 hours to make her happy. I was completely pleasantly surprised when I saw the play, which was engaging, thought provoking, and fun. The music was catchy, the acting far above what I've come to expect off-broadway, and the story line brought forward a lot of questions that society is often satisfied to allow to go un-discussed. Overall, a very good experience.

Was not the "Spring Awakening" like on Broadway!

by RehobothTony on 7/15/09Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

I had seen Spring Awakening four times on Broadway from its debut through it short run. Finally it was touring to actually two cities only a couple hours away from my beach home, so I could finally take my family members to see it. WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT! After talking about this show for a couple years to them, I was just blind sided by the horrible cast in this company. For this being one of my all time favorite shows, over Mama Mia, Wicked, Hairspray, Evita, Les Mis, etc. it was just horrible. I guess I had just was spoiled with the New York cast. But, its a month since the show, and I still can't believe an 8 Tony award winning show would go on the road and not cast near the equivalent of the New York performers. I hope this show next time around is contracted out to another company and cast much better.

The cast and band did a terrific job. I think a good performance makes you think, feel emotion, and gives goosebumps. This show did all three! The Hippodrome provides a close-in feel to the stage
