I saw the show late last year at the beginning of the 2nd National Tour's run for the first time, though I'd been aware of the play for several years. My friend had even given me the soundtrack to listen to, and I did, but it quickly became a case of out of sight, out of mind. By intermission of the show in November, I had decided I would be seeing this show (and more importantly, this cast) again before their tour was done. The fact that they were passing through Chicago a few weeks before my birthday was reason enough to consider making the Oriental Theatre my second date with this show. And again it exceeded my expectations. The entire cast was spot on, particularly Courtney Markowitz (Ilse), Coby Getzbug (Moritz), Elizabeth Judd (Wendla) and Christopher Wood (Melchior). My mother, who had never seen the show at all, was dumbfounded at intermission with the power of the story, and may have even shed a tear during Blue Wind. The vocals were on point, the characters fully developed and incredibly gripping, and the story made me fall in love with the show all over again. Here comes the cheese... we've all got our junk, and my junk is Spring Awakening's 2nd National Tour.
