    SPANK! The Fifty Shades Parody

by Sebar on 12/14/12The Royal George Theater - Chicago

I saw Spank! at The Royal George Theater in Chicago on 12/12 and 12/13/2012. From the opening scene where lead character Hugh Hanson (played by Drew Moerlein) dominated the audience with a slow motion, sexy walk directly downstage, through the rapturous ending (I don't want to give it away!), I was fully engaged. For a 2 hr. show and a 3 person cast, this was no small task. The dialogue was fast, funny, referential to contemporary life, and at times improvisational. The chemistry between the 3 characters--Hugh, Natasha (Michelle Vezilj), and EB Janet (Amanda Barker) was evident and palpable. There were 3 characters yet there were many more. The actors were facile and fully embodied as they whipped into a new character in an instant. And, could they sing and dance! It was so refreshing to see an alternative format for Musical/Comedy Theater. It broke right out of the shackles.

    Spankable!!!!

by MsGrey on 12/13/12Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Great play!!!! Actors are hilarious!!!! Word of caution do not bring your dad to see this play like one girl in the audience did, which caused a lot of blushing and awkward moments!!! Great play to see with your girl friends! Have some wine, sit back and enjoy the show!!!

Absolutely hilarious, definitely an adults only show (but then so are the books). Don't get front row seats on stage right unless you want to be brought into the show. Great for a girls night out!

    Laughed my sore butt off

by Laughinggirl1 on 12/11/12Royal George Theatre - Chicago

This play was hilarious from beginning to end. The audience was laughing so hard at times that I'm sure I missed the next funny thing out of the actors mouth. It had just the right mix of naughty and nice...they pushed it to the edge without going over. The audience participation was unexpected and funny...glad I wasn't sitting in the first few row's. I would highly recommend this play to everyone that read the book. It was good to see so many men in the audience too. A great time was had by all !!!

by 40Wife on 12/10/12Royal George Theatre - Chicago

My husband and I went to see Spank for our Anniversary. I've read the books and thought it would be fun to see a comedy about them. This was a GREAT show and I'd recommend it as a must see for adults.

Spank, best to read books to fully understand

by marriedcouple1 on 12/10/12Royal George Theatre - Chicago

My wife and I both enjoyed the play. A couple of reviewers mentioned that you didn't need to read the book. This is a spoof about the books so if you don't read them you probably won't find this play as funny.

    Spank was entertaining

by letsgetmoretickets on 12/10/12Royal George Theatre - Chicago

My wife and I attended the Saturday night performance of Spank at the Royal George Theater. The crowd was 90 % women as you might expect and they were "ready for action" when they arrived. There was a buzz throughout the theater in anticipation of the start of the show. The show was quick moving and very entertaining. The entire play including intermission was 2 1/2 hours. If you read the book, it was easier to follow the story line, but it was still very enjoyable without reading the book.

    Spank should be avoided

by JTMD on 12/7/12Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Not worth the money to see this poorly done musical. Just a couple of slightly funny parts, and overall a bore. No set at all, and only 3 performers makes this parody lack any real value. Unless you are a drunken "Housewife of Beverly Hills" look alike, you will not enjoy this at all. Save your money and time for something worthwhile.

    Spank was fantastic!

by Looooooooooooooo123123 on 12/6/12Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Really good fun .my husband hadn't read 'the book' but still really enjoyed the play. You don't need to have read the book as this is a story of its own.

    Spank was all and more!

by secrethelen on 12/5/12Royal George Theatre - Chicago

We had loads of fun and laughter. All three of the actors were tremendous. They did such a great job. I was surprised how clever and funny it was. It was so much more than I expected.

    Spank was mildly entertaining

by cubyme on 12/5/12Royal George Theatre - Chicago

ok, nothing to talk about, two ladies did not read the book and I really think you needed to read the book prior to understand the issues that were dramatized and comedic.

    Good but could've been better

by AngelicaP1988 on 12/4/12Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Play was really good. They were all really funny and it was cute how they got the crowd involved. However, the play could've used a couple more people to play main characters like Kate or Jose. Especially the family scene, I didn't understand the impression of Mr. and Mrs. Grey.
