Entertaining show of music/dance so check it out!!!
This is the 2nd time we have seen the Soweto Gospel Choir and once again, they did not disappoint. The first half was a little hard because it was all in South African dialects and we didn't have an intro before each song saying what they were talking about. BUT, the 2nd half was absolutely amazing and had the entire audience on their feet singing and swaying with the music. The energy that these 20 people exhibit is just unparalleled...and yes, we bought the newest CD!
Go! It was awesome. Uplifting, energetic, colorful and pure talent.
This show reminded that music is a connection between everyone. It was uplifting, high energy and a great show!
The Soweto Gospel Choir never disappoints. Costumes are stunning; vocals and harmonizations are incredible. We saw them in Tacoma about 15 yrs ago, and I have to admit that I liked the selection of songs better at that concert than this one. However, this is the Freedom Tour, dedicated to Madiba (Nelson Mandela), so most songs were about The Struggle and quite moving and powerful.
Soaring. Passionate. Heartbreaking. Deeply truthful. Ebulliently joyful. Soweto Gospel Choir sings in English and 11 different languages. Even when I didn’t understand the words of a song, I felt the heart and soul of it. An experience not to be missed.
If you get a chance to experience the Soweto Choir's Freedom Tour, don't miss it!
We were extremely happy with the Concert and the entire performance. The dancing was a bonus for us in the program. Loved the rendition of Amazing Grace. Disappointed it was not on the CD I purchased. Overall the Concert gets an excellent rating!!! Can't wait for the singers to return.
The performance was amazing, the dancing, with stories of the creation of the songs. Their African attire was so colorful and so beautiful. The music and singing was like a choir of angels with souls. So very proud to be of African-American descent. They sang to African-American hymns it was like being in church. Great performance. I want to see it again excellent!
Soweto Gospel Choir delivered a great performance, I truly was bless by this Choir and impress by the men dance movements.
I've seen so many ... from Marley to Midler ... from Taj Mahal and John Hiatt to Ladysmith and Bob Dylan. Not one was more enjoyable than Soweto Gospel Choir. SGC delivered goose bumps and tears with angelic voices, remarkable choreography and a stage full of joy. The performance was so far beyond expectations we were simply blown away. And SGC seemed to enjoy being on stage as much as we enjoyed watching them.
An unforgettable performance showing the beauty and passion of South African people and music!
Very moving and powerful performance by the worlds greatest choir. Amazing dancing with incredible drumming along with the fantastic vocals makes it a must see concert.
Soweto Gospel Choir touches the heart in a very intimate way while bringing energy that is awe inspiring. Got a chance to meet the members and felt that their hearts are in touch with their spirit. As I looked at each individual I saw that they were more than entertaining, they were in tune with the message that they were bringing.
Soweto Gospel Choir rocked us right out of our seats. Their voices are huge and add to that the wonderful movements and the bright colors of their African dress and you are ready for a great show. the entire audience was on their feet for the last few numbers. You really don't want to miss this show if it comes your way again.
From the moment we walked into The Lincoln Theatre we were struck by the beauty and detail of this venue. What incredible renovations. Columbus should be very pleased that there is a venue so culturally stimulating. THEN, the Soweto Gospel Choir takes the stage, and I do mean envelopes the performance space with color, rhythm, harmonies, Spirit, and yet, intimacy that could probably only captured at the Lincoln. They shared their spirits, souls, and awing songs for 90 minutes with an intermission and costume change of 20 minutes. A friend and I attended. I kept finding myself with my mouth dropped open in awe, and my friend couldn't stop smiling. Their performance was an incredibly spiritual sharing of souls to souls. I even hesitate to define it as a performance as it felt so much as if we, ourselves, were also giving up our energy to create a symbiotic coellessence of oneness. From their sharing in the the many languages of South Africa to ,especially, Amen/Swing Low, I lost all conscienceness of time and even place. I think we may have been on the edge of glory for the entirety of the evening. We f could have stayed for hours longer...and we weren't alone. After the last song, the audience had been standing and it seemed that no one could comprehend that the evening had come to an end. We were sorry it did, so as we drove home we enjoyed listening to the CD of the concert. Ever grateful to Ticketmaster for updates so I was made aware of the performance date and able to get tickets.
Great show. These folks put their hearts and souls in to their performance. The singing was wonderful. Dancing was fun and exuberant. A true gospel choir. A wonderful, joyful testament to Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit that resides within each person of the choir. God bless them all. Help them to keep performing and spreading the Good News!
I am a recent fan and purchased some of their music on ITunes so when the opportunity to see them in concert was presented I had to go. The music is uplifting and their performance was awesome. Their harmony is amazing! The Lincoln Theater in downtown Columbus is a treasure. It was my first time to attend a performance there and I was impressed with it.
It was a good performance musically and energetically, but it was much too loud. A few of the individual singers may have needed amplification, but not the group as a whole.
