So You Think You Can Dance Live! on Tour

As the name implies, the ‘So You Think You Can Dance' Live! tour is an extension of the long-running Fox TV series. Each year, top contestants from the show's most recent season go on the road and perform in front of live audiences. At these gigs, ‘SYTYCD' fans can expect the usual mix of inventive, high-quality choreography and solo and group spotlights. The format of the tour allows dancers to stretch out physically and emotionally, and to show off their unique personalities, which makes the night a resonant one. For the 2018 tour, the Top 10 finalists from Season 15 — including winner Hannahlei Cabanilla, a contemporary dance enthusiast from Orange County, California, and season runner-up Jensen Arnold — are hitting the road to show off their best moves, under the choreographic guidance of the Emmy-winning Mandy Moore.

About So You Think You Can Dance Live! Tour

Just as ‘American Idol' and ‘The Voice' have helped aspiring musicians launch a career, the judged competition ‘So You Think You Can Dance' has done the same for dancers. Contestants from the show, which premiered in 2005, have gone on to become professional actors and actresses, choreographers, and backup dancers for pop stars. ‘SYTYCD' itself has also become known for its innovative dance routines to popular music, and is a perennial Primetime Emmy winner, particularly in the Outstanding Choreography category.

The show's sterling track record is a testament to the stunning pool of talent on display during each season. ‘SYTYCD' doubles as a spotlight showcase for promising dancers specializing in various styles (hip-hop, jazz, contemporary), who then show off their best moves via group, pair, and individual dance performances. Each week, judges whittle down the field of competitors, before crowning one person the winner. After the season ends, the ‘So You Think You Can Dance' Live! tour gives top contestants a chance to strut their stuff in real life, up close and personal in front of the show's many, many fans.

    Loved every dance.

by Angie on 11/30/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

The sound system was awesome. The lighting was perfect and trippy on some but it was cool. Easy access to every seat and no matter where you sit you can see the stage. The only disappointing thing was the big speakers on the side was in the way during the dances. Otherwise LOVED THE SHOW!

    Disappointed compared to previous years

    by N.Ford on 11/29/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

Very disappointed. I’ve attended the live shows in previous years and they typically do the routines from the show. This year they only did a handful of the routines, shortened a lot of them, and then had a ton of new choreography that I had no emotional connection to. I paid a lot of money for the tickets because I want to see the performances from the TV show live. They also went cheap and had none of the wigs, backdrops or other show props that really make the performances come to life...I won’t be paying for the live shows again...it’s a waste of money unless they bring the quality of the live shows back up.

I'm a big fan of SYTYCD

by LisaS on 11/23/19Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

We loved the show and could really see how many of the dancers have improved since the show ended. The only negative thing was the venue. I know the Opheum Theater is historic and a genuine LA landmark, but the seat rows are so close to each other that people had to get up and move into the aisle every time someone wanted to enter the row. I'm really short (5'2"), and my knees almost hit the seat back in front of me. When the show was at the Microsoft Theater, it was much better with a myriad of restaurants within walking distance. Please consider moving the show to a better venue next year.

    Awesome group!

    by S. B. on 11/23/19Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

Loved Season 16 top 10! Too bad Gino was injured but everyone was awesome, including All Stars. Would have liked to see fewer new routines - routines from the season in 2nd half of show rocked! Especially Travis' piece on gun violence - very powerful. Only complaint is venue. Parking was awful and didn't feel safe walking back to my car in open parking lot after the show in that neighbourhood. Go back to Dolby please.

    OK show, mediocre venue

by Jeff on 11/18/19Old National Centre - Indianapolis

We had been to a previous SYTYCD show, this show was much smaller and the production value was less impressive. Lighting effects were pretty much the same throughout, including lights that blinded the audience (... yep, thanks for that.) The audio was fine. Dancers were very good, not knocking them. I spent decent money on tix, but what I got wasn't a good value. Center section floor seats offered poor visibility, and we spent most of the night with our necks tilted over since our row was not properly staggered with the one in front and the floor pitch was nearly flat. (If this was a movie theater, it would go out of business in a month.) I would not buy floor seats again in this venue. I might buy a balcony seat, but not one on the floor. We saw Lion King here several years ago, visibility was fine in the balcony. The Egyptian Room is a fun venue for concerts (at the same facility) but the Murat is a tired old theater. Keep your expectations low.

Great Show in the Worst Place

by Blunder on 11/18/19Coca-Cola Roxy - Atlanta

I have only missed a couple of the SYTYCD tours since they have been in existence, so I have been to many many cities and theaters over the years (not always in the same part of the country). The dance never ceases to amaze, but not all my experiences have been great ones. This show in Atlanta was one of my worst experiences ever, after driving almost 3 hours, and making allowances for the famous Atlanta traffic. It was the theater that ruined the experience. A cavernous opening filled with folding chairs on a flat floor does NOT make for good viewing. In fact there was very little viewing to be had. The access to the theater was poorly marked, and the parking garage mentioned in the directions was completely inaccessible. I could go on, but to make a long story short, I will drive several hundred miles further to another city the next time (seriously!!) rather than repeat my experience at the Coca Cola Roxy (specifically) in Atlanta (generally)!!!

    Great Dancers! Terrible Venue

by Anonymous on 11/18/19Coca-Cola Roxy - Atlanta

Short version: The dancers were absolutely INCREDIBLE! But I will not be returning to that venue until some changes are made. Longer version: The CocaCola Roxy could use some improvement. First, it's all floor space, so seating was just regular plastic folding chairs that were poorly labeled, so it was hard to find our seats and they were very uncomfortable. Also, since it is all one level, it was somewhat difficult to see everything because the floor level is flat. When we purchased tickets online the diagram made the seating arrangement look totally different! We had no idea it was all one level and just packed folding chairs - we would have picked a different seat. Second, the music was SO LOUD that the reverb was awful. The only plus side to this was that it drowned out the food/drink areas that were making lots of noise. The lighting people also spoke very loudly at times which was super distracting. Also, the lighting was not great. On certain numbers the lights shone out directly at the audience, blinding us AND putting the dancers in shadow... so bad! Many of us were covering our eyes and complaining. Lastly, the stage has what I assume are lights arranged at the edge of the stage. Which might be great for music concerts, but for us we couldn't see the dancers feet or whenever they went to the stage floor. There was a tap dancer who had a solo that I was really looking forward to and I couldn't see any of it because of those things blocking their feet. Just awful!

    Great show!

by Mama lisa on 11/17/19Old National Centre - Indianapolis

This was our 3rd SYTYCD Live at the Murat. We have watched the television show since the beginning so for a lot of years. It was a blast to get to see your favorite dancers and the amazing routines! Our tickets were super reasonable but pretty much all the seats in the theatre are good ones in my opinion. So much fun!!

Great shoe, disappointed in tour coordinator

    by Dakota on 11/14/19

The show was great, the dancers were amazing, of course. My issue with this years tour lies with whomever coordinates it. In 2017, we went to Chicago and bought the front row meet and greet pass and we got a big bag of goodies and got to spend about 20 minutes with all the dancers, taking pictures and talking with them. This time around, we went to the Milwaukee show. The front row meet and greet was over double the price and all we did was come in a room to take a quick photo with a couple of the dancers and left. It was about 10 seconds long, there was no actual meet and greet, and we did not even get to say hi to every dancer. I understand how busy tour can be and how things can change from year to year but this time around it was so disappointing and certainly not worth close to the money we paid. We do regret purchasing those tickets and in the future will probably just purchase non meet and greet tickets, since you dont get to meet and greet anyways. Other than that, it was, as always, a wonderful show and all of the dancers and crew did such a good job, especially since they have been doing a show nearly every day for a few weeks now!

    Sound Blast

by CRRH on 11/13/19Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

Sound was horrible. Ruined the whole show. The music was basically loud noise. Over amped. Whoever thought this was cool should be fired. People had fingers in ears or coats covering them. Great dancing but I will never go to SYTYCD live show again. Get rid of MC s. Not needed. Amateur.

    Almost great...

by Erincez on 11/13/19Coca-Cola Roxy - Atlanta

The show itself was incredible. Would have been a great experience if I didn't pay a lot for seats up front! I thought it would be worth it since I was celebrating with my daughter. The stage was set up so high at the Roxy that the front sections couldn't see the dancers' feet. We literally saw them from the waist up most of the show. Much of the performance was on the floor and we saw nothing. People around us were standing up to try to see them- I'm sure that didn't help the people behind them. I sent an email the next day and got a "sorry" in return, nothing more. These dancers were phenominal- just wish we could have seen more of them, especially after paying almost $100 per ticket. Go see the show! NOT AT THE ROXY!

LOVED LOVED LOVED So You Think You Can Dance Live!

    by K. J. on 11/13/19Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

The show was a birthday gift for my 8 year old. He had a blast despite the late hour. The dances were even better in person compared to what you see on TV. The show was entertaining the whole time and it was well worth the price. It was longer than I anticipated and that's a good thing. It was overall a wonderful production!

Show was Good / Venue was Terrible

    by H. S. on 11/12/19Coca-Cola Roxy - Atlanta

This is the first time I've ever given the SYTYCD tour less than 5 stars. I have seen the show in 3 different venues including this one and have seen every tour (excpet maybe 1) since they started. This venue was not at all the right place to hold a show of this type. It is more of a concert hall or place for a reception. They had folding chairs set up, there was no elevation and the seats weren't staggered very much so it was hard to see around the people in front of you especially when they were holding their phone up to record the whole time. Not to mention that the seats were extremely uncomfortable. There were lights or something on the front of the stage so it was impossible to see anyone's foot work. If you come to see a dance show you want to see their foot work and any time they are on the floor for a portion of their dance. I was extremely disappointed in this venue. Cobb Energy Center has been the best venue here in Atlanta. Enjoyed the dancers and energy they have, but I would never see another show at the Coca-Cola Roxy.

    Great venue and great dancing

    by s. on 11/12/19Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

Although the show itself was very good, the lighting and loudness of the music was at times annoying. For many of the numbers, very bright lights would be used that shone directly into the audience and into our eyes, making it difficult to see the dancing going on. One light in particular seemed misaimed or was definitely brighter than the others. Unfortunately, we were right in the path of that light. However, flashing and roving lights went thru the whole audience, right at eye level. I realize the lighting is supposed to add to the excitement and energy of the production, but it should not be irritating to the audience.
