So You Think You Can Dance Live! on Tour

As the name implies, the ‘So You Think You Can Dance' Live! tour is an extension of the long-running Fox TV series. Each year, top contestants from the show's most recent season go on the road and perform in front of live audiences. At these gigs, ‘SYTYCD' fans can expect the usual mix of inventive, high-quality choreography and solo and group spotlights. The format of the tour allows dancers to stretch out physically and emotionally, and to show off their unique personalities, which makes the night a resonant one. For the 2018 tour, the Top 10 finalists from Season 15 — including winner Hannahlei Cabanilla, a contemporary dance enthusiast from Orange County, California, and season runner-up Jensen Arnold — are hitting the road to show off their best moves, under the choreographic guidance of the Emmy-winning Mandy Moore.

About So You Think You Can Dance Live! Tour

Just as ‘American Idol' and ‘The Voice' have helped aspiring musicians launch a career, the judged competition ‘So You Think You Can Dance' has done the same for dancers. Contestants from the show, which premiered in 2005, have gone on to become professional actors and actresses, choreographers, and backup dancers for pop stars. ‘SYTYCD' itself has also become known for its innovative dance routines to popular music, and is a perennial Primetime Emmy winner, particularly in the Outstanding Choreography category.

The show's sterling track record is a testament to the stunning pool of talent on display during each season. ‘SYTYCD' doubles as a spotlight showcase for promising dancers specializing in various styles (hip-hop, jazz, contemporary), who then show off their best moves via group, pair, and individual dance performances. Each week, judges whittle down the field of competitors, before crowning one person the winner. After the season ends, the ‘So You Think You Can Dance' Live! tour gives top contestants a chance to strut their stuff in real life, up close and personal in front of the show's many, many fans.

  • Great Dancing - Bad Venue

    by VeryDisappointed2 on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

The dancing was great, but never get floor seats unless they are up front at the Prudential Center. The stage was lower than the seats and as a result anyone average height or below could not see anything done on the stage floor. Had the stage been a foot or two higher it would not have been a problem. When we asked the event staff if we could move to unoccupied cheaper seats they refused to let us and then let other people do it. The person next to us referred to it as the most expensive night of TV ever, since they had to watch it on the screens on either side of the stage. The show is basically the greatest hits of Season 5, with a few new dances thrown in. As the dancers get to speak more as they introduce each number (even if it is scripted) you get to learn a little bit more of their personalities. Bottom line - If your floor seats are not up front you would be better off getting cheaper seats up higher or stay home.

  • SYTYCD was amazing

by MooMooBooBoo on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

We had great seats at the Prudntial Center. The place is clean and comfortable. The show was non-stop. Those dancers are so talented. The body control exhibited and extension was phenomenal. The performance showcased the individual dancers talents. I was pleased that they focused on the routines that the majority of the audience was intereseted in seeing. The lights and monitors definitly enhanced the show. Although, the music was a bit loud and not well balanced for the first half of the show. The only disappointing moment was the ending performance. It looked thrown together and a bit cheesy. It was not in keeping with the SYTYCD tradition or style for a group performance. I am not sure who choreographed that portion but it couldn't have been any of the choreographers from the show.

  • SYTYCD was an awesome time.

by Iheartsytycd on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

The show was great and a lot of fun. The seats up top weren't fantastic (showing the dances on a big screen as opposed to smaller side ones would have helped) but I was happy with the overall experience. One thing that wasn't great was that the music was way too loud.

  • SYTYCD - Awesome

by smithdancer on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

I've been to all four of the So You Think You Can Dance tours, but this one was probably the best. I had unbelievable seats and the dancers were phenomenal!

  • If you think you can dance 2009 was awesome

    by Lee2009 on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

So Glad I went to the event. Not dissappointed one bit. The dancers were so full of energy and performed incredibly. The dances selected for the performances were awesome and I felt even more touched by seeing them performed the dances live. Was very much heart felt !!!!! Dag, I loved Ade!!!! So strong, tall, talented and powerful. I would love to see them and Ade again!!!!!!!!

  • Amazing dancers and choreography.

    by KayMay782 on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

It was brilliantly done, just like the show but better. The talking in between numbers was perfect. The Russian dancing was hilarious! Great time!

  • Give me more

    by Kim04 on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

The show was good but I was a little disappointed they did not perform new routines. I was really looking forward to seeing something I've never seen before. Other than that it was ok.

  • Energetic and fun!

by Kayroll on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

The dancing was fantastic! The dancers were putting just as much energy into the routines as they were during the competition and they did all of my favorites from the season. I thought the way they introduced the numbers was engaging and references to some of the not so great parts of the season were very funny; especially the Russian folk dance. Clearly there is acting talent as well as dancing talent in a number of the dancers. Now for the negatives - it was way too loud (and I go to a lot of rock concerts)! I felt bad for the younger childern with their hands over their ears. And I do not understand why, if you pay good money to see show, people show up late and spend half of their time walking in and out to the concession stands and bathroom lines. Get there ealry, get what you need, and get to your seats before the show starts to be considerate of the other people trying to watch the show. There is an intermission.

  • Just a review of the season

    by Sue16 on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 2 out of 5

Too much talking, not enough dancing. Too many recorded clips from the season. All in all I loved the dancing, didn't love the other stuff which seemed to dominate the show.

  • SYTYCD '09 - GOOD CAST, BAD VENUE

by RICOH on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

I'VE SEEN 3 OF THE 4 TOURS AND THIS ONE HAD THE STRONGEST CAST. IT ALSO HAD SOME CLEVER BITS. HOWEVER, THEY WERE MISSING SOME FAN FAVS - NO CRASH TEST DUMMIES, NO BRANDON AND JEANETTE TANGO, AND NO KILLER GROUP DANCES LIKE MIA'S TATTOOED SUITS, WHERE ARE THE CLOWNS, AND THE MENS' AFRICAN DANCE. NONETHELESS, A SATISFYING EXPERIENCE, THOUGH YOU CAN SEE ALL THIS STUFF A LOT CHEAPER ON TV!! THE PRUDENTIAL CENTER IS A HORRIBLE VENUE FOR THIS - BEWARE OF ORCHESTRA SEATING, IT STINKS! BRING BACK THE SMALLER THEATERS!! DANCE IS NOT MEANT TO BE SEEN IN A STADIUM!!

  • Best Show Ever

by KingWood on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

I would go see it again and again and again. Amazing!

  • SYTYCD -- best tour yet!

by ArtsFan on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

My 17 year old daughter and I each brought a friend and the four of us thought the time flew by. The dancers and dances were great--energy level never flagged! We've seen the other tours and loved them, but this was clearly the best.

  • So You Think You Can Dance was great!

by MomofBride on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

The entire show (dancing) was great - could do with a little less chatter from the dancers and the "It's Midnight" routine was boring . Also, there should have been larger video screens as it was difficult to see some things. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the show and the venue is extremely convenient.

  • Good Show

by danceadventures on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed the show. These kids are amazing, so much talent. The music was not too loud as was posted in other reviews. One negative, a little too much talking by the dancers. Also, would like to see their solos longer in length. Would love the screens on the sides of the stage to be bigger. But, will go again in the future.

  • SYTYCD was AWESOME!!!!

    by kag123 on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

My girlfriends and I had a Blast!! I barely have a voice this morning from screaming and hollaring so much! Kayla and Kupono's "addiction" routine was the most incredible dance I have ever seen!! As much as I loved it when I first saw it on tv - I was even more moved by it when I witnessed it live! Phillip is JUST OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE WHOLE SHOW AND WOULD SEE IT AGAIN IN A HEARTBEAT!!!

  • SYTYD - Was fantastic!!!!

by Liveiitupp on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

The show was great, the dancers were fabulous...but don't get floor seats, because you can't see the stage.

  • SYTYCD Rocks!

by TriciaT on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

I brought my 10 and 12 year olds to the show. We bought tickets at the last minute and got great seats 6 rows back from the stage just to the side. It was awesome to see our favorite dancers in person. The show was all I expected it would be with our favorite routines, both couples and group. Season 5 is defintely our favorite season so far.

  • S.Y.T.Y.C.D. was anazing

What a great show! Not only was the dancing fantastic but the show added it's signature mix of comedy along with fantastic visuals.

  • Ah-mazing!

by NJtapdancer on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

So You Think You Can Dance Tour 2009 did not disappoint! This was my third year attending and each year lives up to the last! I'd say it gets better, but the dancers are so good, looking back over the years, I really can't say it! I just wish the solos were longer. Each time one would get started, it would end, leaving me wanting more. Especially Brandon and Jeanine! His body is ridiculous! I wish Brandon and Janette did the tango!
