About

Small Town Murder Podcast on Tour

True crime is all the rage in the podcast world these days, thanks in no small part to offerings such as "Small Town Murder." The brainchild of two Phoenix-based comedians, James Pietragallo and Jimmie Whisman, "Small Town Murder" focuses on—as its name implies—murder cases that have gripped small towns.

Pietragallo and Whisman are no strangers to the podcast world. In 2016, the friends debuted "Crime in Sports," putting a humorous spin on professional athletes whose poor life decisions torpedoed their careers. Even before that, the duo grew up as true crime aficionados. Pietragallo told the Chicago Tribune that his mom "used to read me horrible true-crime books," and Whisman revealed that he was an avid "Dateline" viewer.

The format of "Small Town Murder" will be familiar to fans of the sister show. Each episode focuses on one murder case in a specific location, and it covers killings that might not have received a lot of mainstream press. But the show is about far more than just heinous crimes: Episodes include love triangles, sudden disappearances, and botched relationships, as well as bumbling criminals and the kind of quirky scenarios found only in out-of-the-way places.

So what makes "Small Town Murder" stand out from the true-crime-podcast pack? The impressive amount of research that goes into each episode, for starters. Plus, Pietragallo and Whisman possess an easy camaraderie that softens the tone of the serious subject matter, meaning the show has an expert balance of suspense, mystery, and lighthearted commentary. And perhaps even more important: While the men pepper their well-crafted storytelling with plenty of humor, they always state up front that there's absolutely no mockery of murder victims or their families allowed.

The "Small Town Murder" tour, Shut Up and Give Me Murder!, promises to preserve the spirit of the podcast while giving fans a chance to mix and mingle with other dedicated listeners.

    Small Town Murder Live Show!

by MaryFromDallas on 10/8/18House of Blues Dallas presented by Cricket Wireless - Dallas

It was such a lovely show. My boyfriend and I laughed so hard. We are both loyal fans. There were so many fun references to the show and it was fun to see James and Jimmie interact with the audience. I loved the accompanying slide show. I can't wait for James and Jimmie to come back to Texas! They are great guys and waited to meet any of their fans who waited to meet them. Hopefully, next time they can come back with a Crime in Sports show!

James and Jimmy were absolutely amazing!

by AnthonyArredondo on 10/8/18House of Blues Dallas presented by Cricket Wireless - Dallas

My wife and I have been listening to both the crime in sports podcast and the small town murder podcast for over a year now. Their dark humor gets us through the week and we couldn't have had a better time at the show. They were amazing and we would buy tickets in a heartbeat if they ever came back to the DFW area.

    One for the books

by CaffeineDreams on 10/8/18House of Blues Dallas presented by Cricket Wireless - Dallas

Beyond incredible. Great pacing, good audience interaction/engagement, and people were literally falling out of their chairs with laughter. The guys seemed genuine and relatable which only added to the overall experience. 10/10 would recommend and I will definitely be going to another live show next time they come to the area.

    They are a must see!

by benfaceben on 10/8/18House of Blues Dallas presented by Cricket Wireless - Dallas

Seeing Small Town Murder Live in Dallas was beyond fantastic! I’ve listened to every episode and listen weekly to the new ones. Their live show was exactly like the podcast except they show pictures as they tell you the story and you get the perk of no commercials which is great too! I was beyond thrilled that they did a free meet and greet and literally waited until EVERY person in the line had the chance to meet them. My only disappointment was that they weren’t selling any merch.

by Suzlena on 10/8/18House of Blues Dallas presented by Cricket Wireless - Dallas

These guys are fantastic. Kept everyone laughing and interacted with the audience the whole time. After they stayed to meet and take selfies with everyone who came to the show. They are the coolest guys.

by JuanCDallas on 10/8/18House of Blues Dallas presented by Cricket Wireless - Dallas

Best show I’ve seen live and they are amazing and hope they come back to Dallas soon real soon. Maybe even their crime in sports show. They stayed after and took pictures with everyone who wanted one.

    Panhandle Behavior

by EchoSilently on 10/8/18House of Blues Dallas presented by Cricket Wireless - Dallas

If you know anything about these guys the most amount of panhandle behavior they get into are the stories themselves!!! These guys were awesome and the show was just an amped up version of the podcast on steroids. The crime is real. The jokes funnier! The visual aids really enhanced it! If you are someone who doesn’t believe that comedy and crime shouldn’t exist then you sir/ma’am may f&%# off! This show is beyond wild and crazy. It’s Mardi Gras Madness and I highly recommend it!

Small Town Murder Live was the absolute best show!

by athenahippias on 4/29/18Punch Line Philly - Philadelphia

I’ve never laughed so hard in my entire life. My boyfriend hardly ever laughs out loud & he was audible laughing all night. Not only was it an amazing & hilarious show, the hosts are also incredible people who made sure to chat with ever single fan & even invited them to hangout after the show. The podcast is amazing but these live shows are the best. Please bring them back!!!

    Crazy good live performance

by Theadorable on 4/18/18Punch Line Comedy Club - Sacramento - Sacramento

I always kinda thought these guys heavily edited their podcast and really practiced the jokes - not so!! As I experienced their live show, it was clear they are simply excellent, experienced performers who feed off each other very well and with keen timing! The club was a perfect size and the crowd all loved them; they sounded even better then they do on their podcast and seeing their organic reactions in the moment made it even funnier and more delightful!
