About

SLOAN IN CONCERT:

Power pop titans Sloan have achieved cult status in their native Canada and built a diehard following around the world thanks to their potent blend of crunchy riffs and catchy hooks. The band's four members share songwriting duties, and the result is a wildly diverse sound that encompasses jaunty piano ditties, charging pop-punk, and stirring power ballads. Each member sings their own songs in concert, treating fans to a steady stream of distinct styles – from Chris Murphy's bright tenor to Patrick Pentland's rocking growl – before wowing them with gorgeous four-part harmonies. Their all-together-now enthusiasm in concert has ticket buyers singing along on stadium-worthy anthems like "Underwhelmed," "The Other Man," and "The Rest of My Life." Every aspect of Sloan's eclectic, infectious sound is cranked to the max when they perform live, and fans can’t get enough of the rocking party.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Bassist Chris Murphy and drummer Andrew Scott formed Sloan in 1991 while attending the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Guitarists Patrick Pentland and Jay Ferguson joined shortly after, creating the core lineup that’s remained unchanged for over 25 years. The band made their full-length debut in 1992 with Smeared, and instantly caught on with alternative rock fans in Canada. Unfortunately they had frequent disputes with their record label Geffen, who balked at promoting their hooky rock outside Canada during the grunge-obsessed '90s, and following the release of their 1994 sophomore album Twice Removed they split with the label. They used their own label Murderecords to release their 1996 album One Chord to Another, which was a huge critical and commercial success at home and received rave reviews when it was released in the US a year later. The group amassed fans through the late '90s and early '00s with perpetual touring and consistently solid records, and in 2006 they finally cracked the US charts with their eighth album Never Hear the End of It. Their popularity continued to grow abroad, leading up to the Top 10 debut of their 2014 album Commonwealth on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. Well into their third decade together, Sloan continues to impress both critics and fans with their adventurous recordings and powerhouse concerts.

    Not their best show

    by East_Van_Yo on 10/30/19

I love the guys, seen them multiple times. This past show wasn't their best outing, but considering how long the tour was it was a good effort. I'd have liked to have heard more A sides. Commodore, Do a better job on the sound.

    Keepin’ the good times rollin’

by Cupcake on 10/30/19Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

I’ve always loved Sloan. The lyrics and the harmonies have always been spot on. They have aged like fine wine. Such a great concert band, almost rare in this day and age...

    Sloan is awesome!

    by D. B. on 10/25/19Festival Place - Sherwood Park

It was a great show. I don't think there should be table seating for a rock show. I wanted to stand up and dance.

    SLOOOOOAN

by wuzrface on 10/13/18Riot Room - Kansas City

If Canada were any closer to Oklahoma, I would buy Sloan tickets all the time. They bring a good time and people together.

    Worth the wait

by McDougalllll on 9/20/18Riot Room - Kansas City

I have been a Sloan fan for close to 20 years, and in all that time they have never toured through KC (last time they did come through was in '94, before i knew about them.) So, after all these years of building it up, finally seeing them live could only be a letdown, right? Not even close--Sloan played two full sets, over 20 songs in two hours, and they were incredible. One of the best live shows i've seen. I would see them again in a heartbeat.

    Best night of my life.

by Sloanfansincethe90s on 6/25/18Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

Two sets, a brief intermission, and the rest of the time Sloan rocked a stage smaller than the giant festivals that rightfully greet them in Canada and should stateside in a perfect world. With 3/4 of the discography represented in the set, it was a 22 year long dream come true. Getting, Chris, Jay and Patrick's autographs after was sheer gravy!

    Sloan was amazing, as always!

by JMW77 on 6/23/18Saint Andrews Hall - Detroit

I’ve seen Sloan many times over the past 18 or so years, and they never disappoint. I’ve been to see them in several venues/cities, but there is something special about their Detroit shows at St. Andrew’s Hall.

    Sloan tour 12

by Shandcole1 on 6/23/18Saint Andrews Hall - Detroit

I’ve been going to Sloan shows for 25 years now. This show was a shorter set and they played a lot from their new album 12 so if you’re hoping for a lot of classics you will be disappointed. New album is really good so I still enjoyed myself even though I’m still getting to know it. Definitely a must see for any fan!

    Sloan at Brighton Music Hall

by Stephe96 on 5/10/18Brighton Music Hall - Boston

An amazing show. The music was great, the crowd was great, the band was fun. Sloan sell out stadiums in Canada so seeing them in an intimate venue in the States is a real treat. Don't miss them.

Excellent show by an awesome band. No opener. 2 full sets. Playing both well-known hits and lesser known songs to an enthusiastic crowd. Great night!

Great Intimate Live Show From Sloan!!

by NealBumpyClark on 11/15/16Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

I have seen Sloan 3 times before this (all in Chicago) and this was by far the best show yet!! The venue was so up close and personal that it gave the whole show a very intimate feel and the band was great as well. Plenty of energy and great singing / playing. I was especially impressed with the sound quality... Which sounded great for such a small venue. I will definitely go to another show at this venue and I completely recommend seeing Sloan to anyone who is a fan of good high energy pop/rock. Thanks for a great time!!

    Sloan Rocks!

by Coconutskull on 10/17/16Brighton Music Hall - Boston

Sloan is at the top of their game and put on a great show for an enthusiastic crowd. I brought along a few friends that never heard of Sloan before and they walked away fans of the band.

    bad sound

by Shrineratlarge on 5/27/16Saint Andrews Hall - Detroit

So, I'm probably getting old, but... The rhythm section was way too high in the mix -- and I was probably 10 feet in front of the soundboard, so I wasn't right in front of speakers. The guitars were very difficult to make out because the bass/drums were too high. The set list was otherwise great and I'm glad I went to the show. But I took a friend who had never seen Sloan before and he was put off by the mix and didn't enjoy it because of that.

    Sloan delivered at Rough Trade!

by SizzleTeen on 7/2/15Rough Trade NYC - Brooklyn

The lads put on a great show. I brought a couple of newbies with me to see them and they were blown away. Spread the news, people! Sloan deserve a lot more recognition in the US!!!

    Finally after 15 years!

by jms2979 on 6/29/15Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

The concert was amazing! I have been a Sloan fan for over 15 years and they rarely make it to the section of the U.S. that I get to see them. I got to meet Chris and Andrew and they were very friendly. The band sounded great and even busted out their toughest song to play, "Fading Into Obscurity," because my wife requested it.

Sloan is a talented and versatile band. Go see!

by ggswanson on 11/16/14Great Scott - Allston

Been waiting to see this band for several years. They put on a great show and really displayed their ability to go from pop to rock, punk, and some real Abbey Road moments. All four band members sing and write music, so there are a lot of shades to this band. Very tight musically, and a very good show. The sound at Great Scott was very loud, but mixed well. Stay towards the back and you won't have ringing ears the next day.
