    Singing with Sound of Music

by pdcjbjcalj on 9/27/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Overall we had a great time! The only thing is that our tickets said the show began at 6, which isn't the truth. The opening and the parade begin at 6. The movie didn't begin until almost 8. The parade was cute, but it was too long and I could have been doing other things for 2 hours. It was fun singing along to the music, being with friends, enjoying a beautiful night in Hollywood, and listening to the commentary people come up with to coincide with the movie.

    La la la.....Sing-a-long-WOW

by Moooose on 9/27/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Every year I go to the Hollywood Bowl to see Sing-a-Long Sound of Music! We arrive early with our picnic dinner, eat, drink, and await the show. The crowd walks around dressed up as their favorite character, people are warming up their vocal cords and ready to sing along with the movie!

Sound of music was fun, fun, fun!

by coooky on 9/27/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I arrived there late but I should have arrived earlier to enjoy the great costumes. This was my first experience and it was so much fun! I will come again and I will certainly invite others to join me.

Sing-Along Sound of Music was a blast!

by cathtabor on 9/27/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

The costume contest was fun, from beginning to end. The host's singing voice left much to be desired, but she did a good job with the audience and the costume contest participants. I recommend buying your tickets early and sitting up close in the garden section boxes. Bring a picnic or order one at the Bowl. What a sight to see thousands of cell phones lit up and swaying to the song Edelweis. My only big complaint is the obnoxious people with laser pointers who kept pointing them onto the screen. This movie is a classic and is even better when you can sing the songs along with the movie.

Sing A Along - Sound of Music

by cmns on 9/27/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

It was great, a relaxing and fun evening for all. The costume contest at the beginning is very creative. Where else can you say that you saw the Sound of Music on the big screen and had a sing along - only at the Bowl.

I'll go back for a fifth year in 2010

by Corabella on 9/27/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

It's funny how people come together. Families with young children and groups of old friends. Everyone cheers for Maria and boos that poor, well-groomed Baroness. We politely applaud the creativity of little kids dressed up as "Tea with Jam and bread" and raise our cell phones as modern-day lighters during "Edelweiss". No one is asked to be quiet--no matter how tone-deaf or tipsy--and the only truly hated for an evening are Nazis and the jerks who insist on terrorizing us with red or green laser-pointers on screen. It's an evening of magic (even as Melissa Peterman doesn't know how to use a mic and threatens us with permanent hearing loss). Take your kids, or your friends. Bring extra props (my fave is the cowbell) and enjoy an evening of nostalgia. Take a break from singing and marvel at the sound of 18,000 singing the same song.

A great movie in a beautiful setting

by kidshearts on 9/27/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Sound of Music has always been one of my favorite movies and I loved seeing it on a big screen, and singing along with thousands of devoted fans. The behavior of a minority of those in attendance did not completely ruin the experience for me, but I would have liked it more if those with laser pointers didn't feel they had to shine them on the screen. This often occurred during key plot points. Additionally, there was alcohol running freely, so by the end of the show, some of the members were becoming looser, louder and more obnoxious.

The evening opened up with delightful organ notes, the host was wonderful, the atmosphere relaxing, and the weather nothing but perfect. Overall it was a wonderful setting.

Sharing my favorite movie with thousands.

by Shyflower on 9/27/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

The Sound of Music has been my favorite movie since the first time I watched when I was 7 years old. This was my sister's and my 2nd time at this event. We plan on coming every year now. Melissa does a wonderful job and the costume contest is always fun, although it gets a little tiring to watch. It's also fun to have a guest from the movie. The only complaint I have is how some of the audience behaves (lasers and flashlights on the screen), but otherwise it is very fun.

SING A LONG THE SOUND OF MUSIC HOLLYWOOD BOWL

by captvontrapp on 9/27/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

fun fun fun evening....with a sold out crowd of 18,000 singing along. Had done this the first year they did this years ago...and STILL fun. However...the costume contest went on too long, and MOST of the ideas have all been done before. I fear they were more clever and original the first year. None the less, the film holds up and is always fun to see at the Bowl. (the only sour note, are the stupid people with the laser lights constantly pointing them at the screen...no longer...if ever...funny!!) STOP ALREADY!
