Fantastic and short show :) good place, gooold people and good music
this show was awesome! The opening acts were mediocre in comparison. Teh Extreme musikal sounds emminating from the mayan theater on that night are not to be forgotten for a long time
The show was great. Other than if you were in the back standing, which I didn't have a good view of the stage at all, it was a great venue and a excellent show. I have never been to the Mayan before. I wish I could have gone upstairs and watched but it was closed off. The song list was amazing and SMD pretty much blew me away. Although I wish they would have done another encore.
Simian was awesome!!! end of story. It was nice seeing them in a smaller venue
My wife and I traveled from Seattle to Portland to see this show and we were not disappointed. This was our third time seeing Simian Mobile Disco in the past few years and it was definitely the best performance we have seen by them. These two guys know how to get a crowd to dance their assess off. SMDs track selection ranged from their older material to the best of the new stuff. The show was a lot of fun, but the opening 2 djs were not technically proficient. This was my first time attending a show at the Wonder Ballroom and I was very satisfied with the venue's, sound, lighting, parking and personnel. If I lived in Portland I would be happy to attend shows at this venue.
sooooo good. wonderballroom needs to have more events like this. the days of indie rock are over!!!!!!
An awesome light and sound experience altogether. The way they mess with beats and sounds match up perfectly with the light show behind them. A dance party to remember.
Simian Mobile Disco, rocked the Mezzanine, errr, ahhh, discoed the Mezzanine. I love the music and they played my favorites, Hustler, It's The Beat and an acapella version of I Believe. These guys are really alchemists of music. The staging, the computers, the light show and constant rhythm mixing was very much the inside of an electronic laboratory. A little too loud for my taste as it's a smaller venue. Too many drugs, but to be expected I guess. And the the band, the boys, didn't communicate verbally with crowd AT ALL made it slightly disappointing. But overall I liked dancing amongst the crowd.
semi-impressive lighting, there were times it was pretty cool and other times it was just overdone. too frequently were the lights were too bright to look at. as far as music, they did a good job getting the crowd to move. ive seen justice before and i think their show was phenomenal so naturally i am to compare to the two. its a no brainer for me that justice gave a better performance but it could also be the artists' setup. overall, i thought it was an okay show, would much rather pay less for SMD. not to say that it wasn't worth the money, but definitely worth less.
So, since this was my first visit to the Mayan, I arrived with no expectations. They tore the roof off of the Mayan that night! Brilliant use of audio/ visual interplay. I danced the whole evening, and left amazed and wanting more!!! So much fun live
extremely excellent concert a bit discombobulated at first but once smd got on stage, it only went uphill
Sick, dirty beats that only SMD can create. The hour and a half set felt like a tease though. and the Mayan doesn't have a lot of dancing room. good time but could have been a bit longer
Just amazing. Simian mobile has just gotten better and better everytime I get the chance to see them
They always put on a great show, I like their live sets because you never know what the hell they're doing with all those machines. They're just plugging stuff in and twisting knobs...very mad scientifically awesome. Their tone, creativity, originality and quality of sound is definitely a ten, and that helped ease the pain that I had experienced listening to the DJ's before them, who seemed to be trying to blast my face of with a never ending barage of mediocre house.
This was a very enjoyable show. It was great to hear some of their new stuff live and even better to hear my old favorites. My only disappointment was that it wasn't longer. I saw them at the Music Box at the Fonda back in March (also an awesome show) and I could have sworn they played at least a half hour longer than they did this time. Also, the opening acts played a better set this time around. All in all, a very wonderful way to start Thanksgiving weekend.
