    Wonderful gift

    by Iogatita on 6/13/10Paramount Theatre-Oakland - Oakland

Excellent event! brilliant poet/singer. Great to be exposed to what cuba is all about- fraternity, humanity, hope, and inspiration. The other musicians were also virtuosos, not surprisingly... The venue added to the beauty and the event went smoothly and seamlessly. A true gift for the soul!

Too much art, Too little time!

    by Pitipua on 6/13/10Paramount Theatre-Oakland - Oakland

Silvio as usual, was marvelous. Some in the audience, however, were not so marvelous, either too hungry for him or too drunk. Too many people yelling and obscuring the words and music. Also, many people were filming with their cell phones for long periods of time, which was distracting. I felt the security was lax on that regard, they should've taken the damn phones away after the third warning! The prices charged for admission were obscene, in my opinion. I feel that some tighter security was justified, especially after paying that much. Despite all this, the show was unforgettable. Silvio is just...amazing. Plus, the venue itself is a work of art. What a gorgeous theatre!

    Fan in Oakland

Wonderful performance, great musicians, each one of them. Silvio, beautiful, smart, inspirational, generous ( five encore songs) . Sound and stage were very good. One feed back issue for improvement would be to have people seated before the concert starts. It was very annoying to have the ushers trying to read tickets many times, for several moments in front of the middle of the row. For the people seating on the first three rows, that is. Or, if people are late, sometimes they do not get to go to their seats until the song being played is over, or tell the ushers to assist late comers from the isles, instead of blocking the view of customers that came on time to fully appreciate the show.

    Beyond my imagination--Silvio Rodriguez

    by jdcars on 6/13/10Paramount Theatre-Oakland - Oakland

The music of Silvio is inspiring and sends a strong message to continue to struggle for what is just in the world. His band was incredible as well. I know all his songs and thoroughly enjoyed the arrangements. His flautists was superb. I also loved the instrumental of Chan Chan and the tres player. Silvio and his band were entirely generous, playing for 2 and a half hours with several encores. As always, I loved Ojala!. And in addition a newer song whose title I do not know. Every moment was a highlight.

    flash lights give me seizures

    by labea on 6/13/10Paramount Theatre-Oakland - Oakland

The artist and band impeccable as usual. The accent on featuring romantic songs, not too much on the political issues was a plus to keep the flow of his best poetry. The crowd was too hyper and loud taking away the ambiance necessary for that type of music. People should be warned "no pictures or flash allowed" at the beginning of the show by the organizers. Some rude fellows were even ignoring the security guards efforts after 15 minutes of picture taking. The attendants were very polite and professional. The theater awesome! a jewel I plan to visit again in some other classical music or ballet event.

it was great to see Silvio in this part of the country for the first time ever! His music is excelent, the venue is beautiful but the crowd was noisy spoiling intimate moments with the musician, obviously, they (the crowd) mistook a concert for a policatical ral.

Silvio brings the pain, the emotion, the love of a whole continent and turns it into a song... His work is exceptional, beautiful like an afternoon by the beach, like a painting still unfinished by Dali, like the beautiful madness suffered by Don Quijote... All I can say is thanks, Silvio, for keeping us focused and awake!
