Sigur Rós on Tour

In 2022, Sigur Rós announced the opening dates of their first world tour in five years and hinted at the new album they've been silently working on in the studio -- the first of their albums to be released since 2013's Kveikur. The forthcoming record was quickly hailed as one of the most anticipated releases of the year, with an international community of fans always eager to hear what the experimental ensemble comes up with next. They say good things come to those who wait. And nearly a decade since their last album dropped, Sigur Rós is sure to deliver a live show that exceeds all expectations, airing never-before-heard songs alongside material drawn from their acclaimed 25-year discography. Wherever they play, the Reykjavík, Iceland, natives transcend language through their music. They make songs for which there are no words but rather an evocation of deep feeling, inspiration and delight. Wherever you catch Sigur Rós on tour -- Australia, Mexico, the United States, or anywhere else -- it makes no difference what language you speak or whether you can understand Jónsi's melodic, Icelandic lyrics. In fact, all the songs off their Grammy-nominated 2002 album ( ) were sung in a made-up language, leaving listeners to interpret their own meaning of the title-less songs that they could then transcribe in the blank pages of the album booklet. To appreciate all their music achieves, watch Sigur Rós in concert and experience artistry unlike any other.

Sigur Rós Live in Concert

Sigur Rós is an experimental post-rock band from Iceland with six No. 1 albums and three platinum records to their name. The trio -- comprised of frontman Jón Þór "Jónsi" Birgisson, bassist Georg Hólm, and keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson -- has remained at the forefront of the international music scene since the band's 1994 conception. Sigur Rós became one of the most celebrated alternative groups throughout the years, praised for consistently breaking ground with their ethereal and orchestral production. It's this atmospheric sound that Sigur Rós is best known for, along with Jónsi's siren-like falsettos that resonate with a celestial lullaby. The progressive outfit's 1999 breakout album, Ágætis Byrjun, received the inaugural Shortlist Music Award, a prestigious prize created to recognize independent releases. They went on to produce a prodigious volume of work, releasing a total of 10 albums and 12 EPs within a span of 20 years. Their No. 1 chart-topper "Glósóli" and signature track "Hoppípolla" appeared in the 2005 film Takk, winning a trio of Icelandic Music Awards. Sigur Rós has also won three MTV Europe Music Awards and in 2004 received their first Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album for ( ).

    Angelic Alien

by Most beautiful music in the planet on 8/27/23

Each Sigur Ros song unfolds like a story of a Journey of grand proportions. The melodic, exploration has complex yet simple beauty is unmatched in the world of todays music. This music requires you to be patient and let the music come to you and then it comes back to you more and more each time and tell you notice another small detail you didn’t notice before.

    Breathtakingly beautiful

    by AngE on 8/24/23

Attempting to describe this show with mere words is an impossibility. Sigur Ròs: incredible. Sigur Ròs with an orchestra: truly breathtaking. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to be present for this masterful performance. What a special event; it was a truly beautiful evening. Thank you for sharing this extraordinary experience with Minneapolis. Spectacular.

    An experience.

    by Rawhead on 8/24/23

Of course all Sigur Ros concerts are experiences but this one was extra special what with the orchestra. If the usual Sigur Ros gig starts at Jokulsarlon and ends at Dettifoss, this was like a long summer morning spent in one of the Eastfjords.

    Stellar

    by MikeW on 8/24/23

8th time seeing Sigur Ros and yet again, they were outstanding. Saw them in Los Angeles with the LA Philharmonic 7'ish years ago, and this one was even better!

    Transcendent

    by MB on 8/24/23

Etherial, sublime musical experience! The most moving concert I have ever attended. The crowd gave a 5 minute standing ovation. Minnepolis is so fortunate Sigur Ros chose our city as only 1 of 10 concerts in the US!

Incredible Sigur Ros performance in a beautiful venue

    by Bess G. on 8/22/23

A night I will never forget! Sigur Ros always delivers—the venue was beautiful. My one complaint is that I missed the first song because they didn’t open the doors to the venue til after the show technically started and I was in the back of the line. Many people went straight to the restroom and merch line and I’m sure missed a lot!

    Underwhelming!

    by NIck on 8/22/23

The new music was one note and repetitive. I know it was a special show with the orchestra, and they sounded beautiful - don’t get me wrong- but the setlist lacked life and it needed more variation. I found myself wishing the songs would end already. Also, I was hoping they played a few more classics than they did. It was also disappointing they didn’t do an encore. They came out twice for applause but didn’t play any more songs. Not worth the money and honestly underwhelming. I’ve seen Sigur Ros live a couple times in the past and it was much better.

    Always the BEST

    by Sherako on 8/22/23

We decided to get primo pit tix only 4 rows from the stage and they once again did not disappoint! They sounded the best I have ever heard of the 7 times I have seen them and was due to the orchestra set up playing with them and perhaps the venue too. Only issue I had was the conductor for the orchestra was high up and in the middle so blocked Jonsi some of the time but he moved around to different instruments so not a total loss there. But if you ever have a chance to see them you will not be let down by the performance or the sound! Great as ALWAYS!

    Always a must see!

by Slave to the Groove on 8/22/23

I’m not sure how many times I’ve seen Sigur Ròs now, but they will always be on my list when they come around. Each time they tour is completely different, but often with additional musicians. They played a bunch of new material, but interspersed the favorites and the audience started clapping after two or three notes of them were played. There’s no one else like them; the original approach they take to music and the humbleness they show have made for a very dedicated fan base. The sound was also very good and the choice of theater was great for the ~40 piece ensemble. Just a wonderful evening!

Sigur Rós wonderful, venue less wonderful

    by Mel on 8/22/23

Seeing Sigur Rós wonderful experience as expected. Venue really should have treated it more like a theater performance or symphony. It’s not the type of show where you stand. The first two songs were completely ruined by many late people, standing in the aisle with bright phones on (tickets open), needing to be directed to their seats, then loud ushers directing them. People should be told they can’t be seated till the song breaks or directed from an area the isn’t blocking views and in loud voices (from the hall would have been fine). Also my ticket couldn’t scan and many other people seemed to have scanning issue too.

    SNOOZE

    by James on 8/22/23

Second time seeing them, this time even less energy than the first. I LOVE the tracks where they bring in the drums and rock out (Saeglopur, Stormur, Kveiker, Blapradur, etc.) but there’s practically none of that in their live shows. I won’t see them again unless I can see a set list beforehand.
