SHREK THE MUSICAL
Based on the DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture and the Book by William Steig
Everyone's favorite ogre is back in the hilarious stage spectacle based on the Oscar-winning, smash hit film.
Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Caroline, or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there's more to the story than meets the ears.
"Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek...." And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand... and his name is Shrek.
A Packemin Productions and Riverside Theatres production.

Great time for me and my daughter will definitely do it again.
So much fun!! Actors were incredible and very interactive!! Love all Toby's productions and this one was no different!!
We thoroughly enjoyed this energetic musical! Costumes were terrific, performances were great. My only complaint was the quality of the audio -- I often had trouble understanding what the actors were saying. One note: don't depend on ticketmaster to relay your reservations. I paid a fee of $9/ticket to buy the tickets through ticketmaster, then when I arrived at Toby's, they did not have us in their system. Fortunately they were able to accommodate us with a table. I will not use ticketmaster again.
The whole event ( dinner + show) lasted 4 to 4 1/2hrs, not what I expected. The dinner wasn' t all that ( I prefer medieval times menu). The show on the other hand was amazing, fun and kept you engrossed.
Shrek the musical was amazing. The singing was brilliant, the food was delicious and the people were all so nice and welcoming.
Took our elementary age kids to see the show when they have grown up with the movies, and we were delighted with the stage production! Excellent translation and costuming. Great talent! Such fun! Recommended for kids and adults alike!
Shrek was fantastic!! I loved the changes to the storyline. Lord Farquad was my favorite character.
Please bring this back EVERY year! I've been waiting for it to come closer to Berea, so I was thrilled when I saw it on the venue for the Opera House.
This lively, well-staged production of the Shrek story created many laughs, smiles, and much applause from an appreciative audience. Many entranced children. The musical was superbly cast. Each character was a delight and the actors showed their fine talents to our pleasure. The songs were well sung and easily understood ( so necessary in a musical to move the story along). The staging and direction were exceptional to tell this clever story in a delightful and charming way so that the characters could sing and dance their way across the fairy tale kingdom with high energy. I will not single out one cast member for praise. The principals were all wonderful. The gifted chorus was strong; each playing multiple fairy tale characters.
We certainly enjoyed the play, Shrek The Musical, and would recommend it to others. The actor who played the character Donkey was FABULOUS -- probably everyone's favorite .
My kids first play. They loved the movie and other than the cold tempurature they loved the play. So very cute! We all had a great time. Next time I'll try to get tickets to an earlier show because the kiddos got a little sleepy, but stayed focused on the show the whole time.
It was outstanding. I would recommend it for everyone to see. I took my 7 year old granddaughter for the matinee and wondered it if might be a little long for her. It was NOT. Shrek is her favorite Disney character and she did not get bored in the least and wanted to also stay for the 7:00 p.m. showing. The theater was a little cold for both of us, but that was understandable with the costumes the characters had to wear. Thanks for a great performance!!!!
This was my second time at the Lexington Opera House and it keeps getting better. Shrek the Musical was very true to form, following the movie plot with a few tweaks here and there to make musical adaptation easier. Costumes were top notch, backdrops and scenery were phenomenal. The dragon was the highlight of the show as far as props and animatics. Pole operated, but very lifelike, kudos to the puppeteers. Overall, a performance I would love to attend again.
So great! Costumes and set were great. Lord Farquad was hilarious. Voices amazing. Kept my young child (and all of those around us) and myself equally entertained.
My 10 yr old daughter and I attended Shrek together and I don't know where to start to explain what an outstandingly supreme musical performance this was. From the opening moments till the curtain went down this show was WONDERFUL. My daughter could not take her eyes off the stage and as soon as it was over she asked me when we could see it again!! The props and special effects were some of the best I have ever seen, and I have been seeing broadway shows since 1982. The standing ovation at the end was so well deserved that everyone in the audience wished there was some other way to show just how thankful we all were to the cast for showing us an event that would stay in our minds and bring a smile to our face for years to come. This musical followed the original Shrek really well while incorporating some extremely hilarious new scenes that only enhanced an already wonderful story line. Thank you SO MUCH to the cast of this production for putting on such an outstanding performance that my daughter is now addicted to stage shows and has been searching the internet for musicals to see. We have even changed our spring break plans and will now be heading to New York City so she can experience more shows. Thank you so very much for this incredible experience. I can't wait to go see it again!
Shrek the Musical is a MUST SEE for the young & young at heart! I love taking my children to Broadway, & this show surpassed even my expectations! It was lively, funny, & unbelievably entertaining! The show kept my children on the edge of their seats for the entire show, but delivered some great punch lines to the adults as well.
This show was one of the best I have ever seen. I was dissapointed when it ended, I just wanted it to keep going.
Definitely a must see. The original movie managed to entertain children while throwing in jokes and innuendos that only adults would understand. The musical captured this beautifully. Mix that with great songs and a very talented cast and you've got a great quality production.
It was entertaining. Little slow at first. Was a good way to spend a Friday night.
I bought the tickets for my girlfriend for Valentine's Day and was expecting a decent show but it was more for her than me. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed this show, it is one for all ages and has witty humor sprinkled throughout. Lord Farquad of Duloc is absolutely hilarious, easily the best character. I strongly suggest Shrek for any age it's a great break from the norm at a beautiful theatre!
