SHREK THE MUSICAL

Based on the DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture and the Book by William Steig

Everyone's favorite ogre is back in the hilarious stage spectacle based on the Oscar-winning, smash hit film.

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Caroline, or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there's more to the story than meets the ears.

"Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek...." And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand... and his name is Shrek.

A Packemin Productions and Riverside Theatres production.

    Fionatastic

by combs18 on 2/21/12Lexington Opera House - Lexington

My kids first play. They loved the movie and other than the cold tempurature they loved the play. So very cute! We all had a great time. Next time I'll try to get tickets to an earlier show because the kiddos got a little sleepy, but stayed focused on the show the whole time.

    Shrek, The Musical

by LovingShrek on 2/21/12Lexington Opera House - Lexington

It was outstanding. I would recommend it for everyone to see. I took my 7 year old granddaughter for the matinee and wondered it if might be a little long for her. It was NOT. Shrek is her favorite Disney character and she did not get bored in the least and wanted to also stay for the 7:00 p.m. showing. The theater was a little cold for both of us, but that was understandable with the costumes the characters had to wear. Thanks for a great performance!!!!

    Shrektastic!!!

by spydyrbyte on 2/21/12Lexington Opera House - Lexington

This was my second time at the Lexington Opera House and it keeps getting better. Shrek the Musical was very true to form, following the movie plot with a few tweaks here and there to make musical adaptation easier. Costumes were top notch, backdrops and scenery were phenomenal. The dragon was the highlight of the show as far as props and animatics. Pole operated, but very lifelike, kudos to the puppeteers. Overall, a performance I would love to attend again.

    One Word for Shrek....OUTSTANDING!!!

by Svetich4Broadway on 2/20/12Lexington Opera House - Lexington

My 10 yr old daughter and I attended Shrek together and I don't know where to start to explain what an outstandingly supreme musical performance this was. From the opening moments till the curtain went down this show was WONDERFUL. My daughter could not take her eyes off the stage and as soon as it was over she asked me when we could see it again!! The props and special effects were some of the best I have ever seen, and I have been seeing broadway shows since 1982. The standing ovation at the end was so well deserved that everyone in the audience wished there was some other way to show just how thankful we all were to the cast for showing us an event that would stay in our minds and bring a smile to our face for years to come. This musical followed the original Shrek really well while incorporating some extremely hilarious new scenes that only enhanced an already wonderful story line. Thank you SO MUCH to the cast of this production for putting on such an outstanding performance that my daughter is now addicted to stage shows and has been searching the internet for musicals to see. We have even changed our spring break plans and will now be heading to New York City so she can experience more shows. Thank you so very much for this incredible experience. I can't wait to go see it again!

Shrek the Musical is a MUST SEE for the young & young at heart! I love taking my children to Broadway, & this show surpassed even my expectations! It was lively, funny, & unbelievably entertaining! The show kept my children on the edge of their seats for the entire show, but delivered some great punch lines to the adults as well.

    Shrek: The Musical was great!!

by Jdmc228 on 2/20/12Lexington Opera House - Lexington

Definitely a must see. The original movie managed to entertain children while throwing in jokes and innuendos that only adults would understand. The musical captured this beautifully. Mix that with great songs and a very talented cast and you've got a great quality production.

    Lord Farquad is hilarious

by Lexingtonian on 2/19/12Lexington Opera House - Lexington

I bought the tickets for my girlfriend for Valentine's Day and was expecting a decent show but it was more for her than me. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed this show, it is one for all ages and has witty humor sprinkled throughout. Lord Farquad of Duloc is absolutely hilarious, easily the best character. I strongly suggest Shrek for any age it's a great break from the norm at a beautiful theatre!

Could've been better but it was good. I wish the special effects and scenes were better. All and all it was no Lion King. The songs were cute though.

The worst broadway show we have attended.

by STOPdiscrimination on 7/1/11DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

Totally cheesy! The set looked like it had been made by high school students. The choreography was ridiculously silly. I felt bad for the cast. We have been to Mary Poppins, and Annie which were spectacular. We left at intermission due to the poor quality. Very disappointing and waste of money!

    Above expectations

by michwlvnfn on 6/29/11DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

The cast gave an unforgettable performance leaving me and my wife at the edge of our seats in utter amazement. The musical talents as well as the humor these actors possessed were simply inspiring. We were both laughing to the point that tears formed in our eyes. We couldn't ask for a better performance from an amazing group of cast members.

This performance was spectacular! I enjoyed every moment of it. The costumes were built very well and looked great on stage. The lighting was impressive. The sound had moments where it was difficult to hear that actors but that soon fixed itself. Overall, I would go back to see it again and bring a lot more people!

Family Fun with lots of Laughs!

by takapeng on 6/28/11DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

Shrek exceeded my expectations completely! The stage was full of color and characters like no other show I have seen before. This was my 11-year-old son's first show. He was laughing out loud and thoroughly enjoying himself. Lord Farquaad was definitely the surprise treat of the show - the skill & talent to play that part, and play it so well is a tribute to the actor. I just can't say enough about how we all laughed and just enjoyed the presentation. Shrek is just as lovable on stage as he was on the screen.
