About

This Swedish indie pop quintet was formed in 2001 when childhood pals Adam (vocals, guitars), Carl (guitars) and Ted (bass) realized that, since they all liked the same records, there was (according to their official bio) "really no point in not starting a band." They were soon joined by drummer Eric and female vocalist and keyboardist Bebban, and the fledgling band recorded a three song demo. Their catchy, energetic sound (described as '60s pop infused with '80s and '90s indie rock) caught the attention of Filip Wilén, owner of Sweden's Bud Fox Recordings, and they were signed to the label shortly after. In 2003, they recorded a locally successful EP, 100°, and toured Scandanavia. In 2004, they recorded their first full length album Howl Howl Gaff Gaff, which, again, garnered them a huge following in their homeland. Their fame quickly spread to the U.S. thanks to their music being featured on the hit show The OC as well a tour with the successful U.S. indie outfit The Dears. They were quickly signed by Capitol Records who released the U.S. version of Howl Howl Gaff Gaff in May 2005. Shout Out Louds' hit singles include "Hurry Up Let's Go," "Shut Your Eyes," "Please Please Please," and "Very Loud/Wish I Was Dead."

I was surprised that the show was rather short (over at 11:30pm!), but it was still excellent!

Freelance Whales were awesome as well, it was nice to have a good band to open unlike other times when you are stuck with a sucky band.

    Fun Show!!

by DiscoInfiltrator on 5/23/10El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

I had previously heard only a few songs from the Shout Out Louds. My friend loves them so I went with her. I would recommend them to anybody who likes catchy music. The lead singer came into the crowd and was singing for awhile! They look like they like what they do and they were good with the crowd :)

Shout Out Louds Did NOT Disappoint

by lm23 on 5/23/10El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

First of all the Franks did not open but Freelance Whales did. FW were surprisingly good! Great opening band choice for Shout Out Louds. I will be checking out FW. Shout Out Louds were pretty much flawless. The set-list was mainly made up of their newest album, which is expected since this tour is promoting that album specifically, and they threw in some older songs that I was extremely happy with - some of my absolute favorites actually. SOL sounded great and they were steady/unshaken as people threw items on stage and when a person from the crowd jumped on stage and stage dove right off into people that were scattering. The lead singer cool and calm after the song, said "I hope the stage diver is ok." Great night, great sound, every piece of the band worked together and it was an amazing night! COme back soon SOL!!!

i was excited that shout out louds were coming to l.a. because i had never seen them in concert. it was awesome! i don't think i can describe how much i enjoyed the concert. i loved every minute of it. i wish it could have gone on into the wee hours of the morning. they mostly played songs from their new album. for their encore they played "impossible" and "you are dreaming," which are two of my favorite songs of theirs. it was perfect. it was a wonderful concert. the only way it could have been better is if the band decided to adopt me and took me back to sweden with them.

    Yes. Yes. Yes.

The show began with The Franks. They were okay, but sort of unnecessary. Next up was Freelance Whales. In a word - phenomenal. These guys really know how to play. Their music puts you into a euphoric trance. It's crazy! Then, Shout Out Louds played. It was my first time seeing them (I'm a new fan) but they were awesome! The crowd was pretty weak. Even though it was packed, hardly anyone got into it. Their intro was also mind-blowing. I've never seen anything that awesome for an intro. Def recommend.

    Shout Out Louds Killed It!

by EvSteck on 5/22/10El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Just absolutely phenomenal. The most certainly know how to put on a great show. They get the audience into it, they played a long set, and they sound the same if not better than on their records! If you get the chance to see them, it is definitely something you're going to want to go to- you'll have a blast!

Shout Out Louds for people who can keep a beat!

by claptrack on 5/22/10El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

It's always a lot of fun to see the Shout Out Louds. Last night, was my fourth time seeing a live show. They play all their great songs. They put a lot of energy into it. The audience always claps along and half of them. The energy buzzes through the audience. However, it NEVER gets so rowdy that there is a danger of other shows i've been too. So never worry you will have to end up protecting your date or yourself. It's about dancing and clapping along to the great songs with the Shout Out Louds. Beautiful. Always a great show!

Shout Out Louds Rocked & had some w/good openers

by JoshPRocks on 5/22/10El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

I was 1st introduced to this band at the L.A. Detour Festival 10/2007. Not only were they the best 'Cure' sounding cover band that I ever heard that didn't play 'the Cure' songs, but their music stood alone by itself. At last night's show, I still hadn't purchased any of their music, but fancied their performance way back in 2007 and figured, it would be a good opportunity to check out a good, young, fresh sounding band at the El Rey venue. The El Rey is a historical theatre located in a pretty congested place of Los Angeles. I was able to find parking, but was happy that I had tickets to a week night show, as it looks like I wouldn't be so fortunate on a weekend night or a Friday, sold out show. Additionally, like the Wiltern, I would suggest that this venue post signs that gum is not permitted, so maybe people coming to see the show won't be disgusted by getting their gum confiscated. Other than lengthy times between bands hitting the stage and playing their sets, parking and gum control, it was a great night, with great music and with a sporadically enthusiastic crowd. But, I was content with just listening to 'the Shout out Louds' and the wonderfully layered music (w/usage of random instrumentation passed from musician to musician) of 'Freelance Whales' whose wonderful harmonizing and vocalizations really made a big impression on me.

    What a mess.

by ReallyThisIsIt on 5/21/10El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

I have no real idea how the Shout Out Louds concert was, because I got sick of waiting for them to just get on the stage and play. I bought tickets to see the Shout Out Louds, and then the Franks got added and then Freelance Whales were added and then some DJ was added. I love a good opening act, but I don't need three. The Shout Out Louds didn't come on until 11pm; the show started at 8. I was so pissed off I left after three songs. As far as an actual review, the DJ was good. The evening was made much more bearable thanks to her. The second opening act was amazing. I'm going online today to buy Weathervanes by Freelance Whales. The first opening act was terrible. The Franks' songs showed some promise with a few good moments, but the lead singer kept whining through the whole set. I don't want to hear your insecurity; I want to hear your music. As for the Shout Out Louds, maybe I'll actually get to hear enough to give a review next time they come into town when the show isn't put on incompetently by LA Weekly. If you have tickets to the second show tonight, don't bother showing up until around 9:45.

Best rock show I've seen in a while!

by desegouts on 5/21/10El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

I go to a lot of shows..... Shout Out Louds nailed it! One of the most entertaining rock bands I've seen over the last couple of years. I already really liked their albums, but they really bring their music to life in their shows. I would say this is a current MUST SEE.

Shout Out Louds - Heard Ja!

    by MusicMuse47 on 5/12/10Varsity Theater - Minneapolis

So...there was an extremely long wait for the band to finally come out on stage. But from the moment the first flicker of strobe light hit they more than made up for it. One of the best live shows I have seen in a very long time!! At first, they seemed a little bored themselves but once they started playing they came to life. The lead singer is one of the most gracious good looking front men around! He kept thanking the crowd "Shanks, Shank you!" And with a sincere smile, you know he meant it! If his smile isn't causing global warming up North, then I don't know what is! The music was intoxicating and the crowd was drinking it up! In a State where I believe they must consider it to be a sin to actually be seen dancing to music at a concert, even the hard core "cool" people were moving, bobbing, swaying and dancing...No, Shout Out Louds it should be you who are "Shanked"!!!!
