Behind The Scenes...NOT!
by jda64 on 4/22/13Shedd Aquarium - ChicagoThe tour was horrible with three teenagers totally excited to see scientists and marine handlers working with the various animals. Paid an exorbitant price to hear Daniel speak in his Professor voice. Most of his language was scientific for those in the Marine Biologist world. He spent a lot of time at a window to an exam room. About 15 minutes. Nothing in that area. Then we looked at another window where a lady was standing over a dead fish. 8 minutes. Next we went into a pump house with the filters. We stood on the stairway and he discussed the bricks and dirty area for 8 more minutes. 31 minutes and still we haven't seen any marine animals. Next, standing outside a dirty white board we saw a door where they supposedly prep the food for the lake fish. Showed a bag of frozen peas. Next we passed the spiders and a lizard. Kids got to look in cages for 1 minute...Moved on to the top of aquariums. was told about big carp jumping out. Also saw two catfish but not to close they bite and end of tour. Kids saw about four to five minutes of animals. Heard all about microbiology, histology, aqueous environment 20+times, perplexing enigmas, SHEDD secrets to preservation. Definitely not worth the money or the time. I would not recommend this to ANYONE. Be prepared for a lot of stairs, and fast walking. Small spaces designed for 5 not 12 and no elevators. Nothing in the Oceanarium! SAD!!!
