    Behind The Scenes...NOT!

    by jda64 on 4/22/13Shedd Aquarium - Chicago

The tour was horrible with three teenagers totally excited to see scientists and marine handlers working with the various animals. Paid an exorbitant price to hear Daniel speak in his Professor voice. Most of his language was scientific for those in the Marine Biologist world. He spent a lot of time at a window to an exam room. About 15 minutes. Nothing in that area. Then we looked at another window where a lady was standing over a dead fish. 8 minutes. Next we went into a pump house with the filters. We stood on the stairway and he discussed the bricks and dirty area for 8 more minutes. 31 minutes and still we haven't seen any marine animals. Next, standing outside a dirty white board we saw a door where they supposedly prep the food for the lake fish. Showed a bag of frozen peas. Next we passed the spiders and a lizard. Kids got to look in cages for 1 minute...Moved on to the top of aquariums. was told about big carp jumping out. Also saw two catfish but not to close they bite and end of tour. Kids saw about four to five minutes of animals. Heard all about microbiology, histology, aqueous environment 20+times, perplexing enigmas, SHEDD secrets to preservation. Definitely not worth the money or the time. I would not recommend this to ANYONE. Be prepared for a lot of stairs, and fast walking. Small spaces designed for 5 not 12 and no elevators. Nothing in the Oceanarium! SAD!!!

    Shedd Aquarium

    by jeepin99 on 4/15/13Shedd Aquarium - Chicago

A great place. Everything was clean well done. I had read several comments before the trip. The folks complaining should just stay home and watch tv. I was afraid Saturday would be crazy and it was but not a problem. Children were many along with strollers. Never had a problem with anyone. We thought the show was good. The part with the hawk was lame. We opted for the behind the scenes tour. It was not worth the time didn't see much. Buying tickets online was great. We arrived early went right in, got our wrist band, rented a locker, and started the day. That process took maybe ten minutes. I would say around eleven the line was several hundred people and stayed like that till we left around three pm. The staff were helpful when asked. The food was good but pricey. We took our time and it was worth the price of admission. Buying tickets online is the way to go but it does not save you money when the fees are added on. Shedd is great take time to go...

    Pretty neat

    by Will1855 on 4/9/13Shedd Aquarium - Chicago

At 50 minutes, the tour itself is disappointingly short but very cool. You definitely get your moneys worth as the ticket includes every exhibit, including Jellies and the Aquatic Show. I wouldn't take small children on the tour, but I would recommend it for curious adults and children that seek a career in the sciences or animal care.

    Fun and Fish!!!!

by Jolietgirl on 4/2/13Shedd Aquarium - Chicago

A great way to appreciate even more the wonders of the Shedd Aquarium. The guides gave interesting and fact filled info on the Shedd and its long history in Chicago. Kids and adults can appreciate the tour - we had a mix of both. . About one hour long and easily navigated. Question and answer time was given along the whole tour. Highly recommend it!

    Behind the scenes tour

    by nm07 on 3/27/13Shedd Aquarium - Chicago

Really thought we would see the animals close up but no. Learned about how they are fed and cared for. Still was pretty cool to see plus it was crazy busy and we bypassed all!!! Need to always buy tickets on line first!!
