    Extremely bouncy

by weirleader on 10/24/10Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - Portland

Had a great time and enjoyed the music. It was nice to sit back and hear some favorites as well as some I'd never heard before (but I fully admit I'm not the kind of mega-fan who ensures they've heard every last musical scrap from She & Him). It was everything I expected where song selection and coverage was concerned -- and Zooey's voice was quite strong at times (that's meant to be a compliment). The down side for me was that I (and my wife) often couldn't make out the words, both singing and spoken. I don't know who is responsible for sound quality (and it may just be the limitations of the concert hall), but I frequently found myself straining and often had to just enjoy the tune. Oh, and Zooey and one of the backup singers were extremely bouncy, hopping all over the place. Maybe it's just me, but I found it somewhat distracting. :-) I guess energy is a good thing, right?

    She & Him, Portland 10-22

by WRHarmon on 10/24/10Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - Portland

Run don't walk to the next opportunity you might have to see this band live. After a few tech issues at startup, Zooey & M. Ward delivered a flawless set showcasing most of the material from their too small catalog of material. Patsy Cline - move over. The new queen has arrived. Mike Coykendall from the She & Him band opened the show with a great set. I only felt bad that for the "hometown show", the Schnitz was only about half full for what had to be one of the best shows of the season.

    So happy I went!!!!

by PortlandBabe on 10/24/10Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - Portland

I'm not a big fan of live music due to the fact it never sounds as good as the CD or on my iPod. She & Him sounded excellent though and although I was worried I was going to regret going, I felt the opposite. I walked out feeling so lucky to have experienced such a talented group.

Excellent performance - Sound system was ok

by Mqbow on 10/23/10Uptown Theater - Kansas City

She & Him had an excellent performance at the Uptown Theater in Kansas City, MO. They played a wide variety of their songs and continuously played for about an hour and a half. The only complaint I would have would be against the Uptown Theater sound system. You could barely hear Matt Ward's vocals, especially when he was singing solo. Some of the instrumental parts sounded slightly distorted at times, like the sound guy was not mixing it correctly on the board. Also very impressed with the opening group The Chapin Sisters. They both had awesome voices that blended very well together and had great skill with their guitars. The Chapin Sisters were also the backup singers for She & Him. All and all a great show and a great time.

    Fantastic Show

by ShaNova on 9/8/10Uptown Theater - Kansas City

I'm a pretty big concert go-er, and I'm going to put this in my top 5. Everything Zooey does is cute. She's very childlike - like she has no idea how she got on stage, but is so happy to be there. Her voice has an old soul, throwback quality to it that's fantastic and beautiful, and the music is just so great! M. Ward is a steller musician, and tho you hear his voice much more rarely, it's also very cool and unique. The stage show wasn't fancy, but it felt very personal. I don't even know what else to say to explain how wonderful this show/night was. Highly recommended.

    She&Him=Zany&Fun

by GeorgiaSheAndHimFan on 9/6/10Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

First SHe and Him concert. They were amazingly energetic and smart. They performed song after song without much chatter. Loved all the instruments they play and the hopping around crazily on stage! Every minute was well worth the drive and admittance. Plus I got a beautiful tour t-shirt to remember this fun-filled evening.

    She & Him=Best Show Ever!

by eakes1k on 9/4/10Uptown Theater - Kansas City

This theater was just so unique and beautifully decorated to provide a nice atmosphere. I felt like almost everyone could see the stage because of the floor design.... But enough about that, The opening band "The Chapin Sisters" played a short but sweet set and went off to get ready because they were Zooey and Matt's back up singers. After a little 20 minute intermission none other than the wonderful Zooey Deschanel came out and came out swinging with "I was made for you" as the first song. As the show went on they played a variety of 24 songs, both from "Volume One & Two" they also snuck a couple M. Ward songs in there...2 new songs were played as well as a Beach Boys cover of Wouldn't It Be Nice. They ended the show with Sweet Darlin', went off stage and of couse had an encore of the two new songs I'd mentioned previously. The entire show was enough to bring tears to your eyes, TRULY unforgettable. I recently went to Lollapalooza, Modest Mouse and Atmosphere...this topped all that and every show I've ever seen for that matter, if that gives you an idea how amazing it was. I HIGHLY Recommend seeing them even if you have to drive 8.5 hours to Kansas City,MO to do so.

No audience connection at all. Terrible!

by Marquismark on 9/3/10Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

Zooey is like a 12-year-old gilr who just got braces and is uncomfortable in front of stangers. It took 6 songs before she even acknowledged the audience and when she did it was awkaward, nervous, lame or i don't know, but it wasn't good. The audience gave her so much love and support but she couldn't reciprocate. Dissapointing. Hey, Zooey, remember: we like you, we paid money to see you so feed us, love us back.

She & Him put on a fantastic concert

by Anonymous on 9/3/10Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

I had pretty high expectations for the concert, but it absolutely exceeded all my expectations. The music was fun, and I enjoyed seeing how the musicians played with the acoustics at the Ryman.

    Awsome show at the Ryman

    by wordlife17 on 9/3/10Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

She and Him gave us a great show on Wednesday. Zoey is really an amazing singer and unlike most of the artists you hear nowadays - sort of a throwback to the 1960's country singers. M. Ward's guitar playing and accompaniment were excellent. The band was very solid - there were was a drummer, bass, guitar and two backing vocalists. They started out doing mostly newer songs and saved their better known numbers (Sweet darlin, why do you let me stay here) for the end. There were two encore performances.

She and Him charming, wistful, and fun

by bellmere on 9/3/10Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

I really can't imagine anyone not enjoying this stage performance. Youthful exuberance at it's finest plus some really spot on professional musicianship. the stage show had an interesting and varied dynamic. As a novice to a lot of Indie darling bands I went into this not knowing at all what to expect. The sweet pop tunes were filled out with often quirky and sometimes lavish vocal arrangements. Their songs are full of unexpected lyrical twists, and the cover tunes they choose are faithfully and reverently delivered. You gotta love young people who are innovative but pay homage to their predecessors. They are so respectful they included as their opening act the International Headliners who are comprised of local songwriter/performers Al Anderson of NRBQ fame, Shawn Camp, and Pat McLaughlin. These geezers(and I can use the term because I have reached the age of geezer) ROCKED. She and Him cut Al's song "Ridin' in My Car" and they are crazy about old Al. They brought him on stage to play with them during their rendition of his song. Filling out the audience were some celebs including the GREAT and still exuberant if not still so youthful, Michael Stipe.

    Deschanel's Voice is Worth Experiencing!

    by nashgirl87 on 9/3/10Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

Overall, Zooey and the rest of the group were extremely energetic and lively. They were a lot of fun to watch. Zooey's voice, however, is the real reason to go. She is one of the best singers I have ever had the pleasure to experience. Her range is incredible, and her personality is quirky and fun!

    by Nashvegas1023 on 9/3/10Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

We really enjoyed the show. Zooey has an amazing voice. She and Matt brought so much energy to the stage. I would recommend that if you get a chance to see them live, do it. The cd does not do justice to how great they sound in person.

Awesome! Everything I hoped + More

by Orof on 9/3/10Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

    M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel are such a great combination musically, I don't even know how to describe it. Go see them live--they are so talented. Zooey's backup singers may not be the greatest, but she is amazing and has such a lovable personality. And M. Ward is so creative and talented as well. They will not disappoint!
