About

SHARON VAN ETTEN IN CONCERT:

Indie darling Sharon Van Etten is on the verge of something big --whether she's singing along to her Gibson acoustic or rocking out with a full band, her musical style transcends traditional  boundaries, making her one of the genre's most promising rising talents. Van Etten's dynamic vocal range is impressive as she mesmerizing audiences with her warm, angelic voice, and her lush harmonies have become a focal point of her live shows. Back on the road for a series of highly anticipated dates, Van Etten will treat fans to classics like "For You" alongside newer material like  "Every Time the Sun Comes Up," the closing track from 2014's Are We There.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Sharon Van Etten got her start at a young age, singing in her New Jersey hometown's church choir and taking up violin, clarinet, and piano. Throughout high school she performed in a number of school groups, and in 2005 she moved to New York to pursue music full time. After years of penning songs and playing local gigs around Brooklyn's bar scene, Van Etten landed an opening spot on Meg Baird's 2008 tour, releasing her debut album Because I Was In Love a year later. Having established her harmonious new sound, Van Etten quickly followed up with epic (2010) and  Tramp (2012), landing on tour with The National and The War On Drugs. NPR describes her music as " heartfelt without being overly earnest...and her elegant voice is wrapped in enough rasp and sorrow to keep from sounding too pure or confident," and it's this delicate balance that gives her unique music its edge. Back on the road in support of her 2014 release Are We There, Van Etten is set to give fans an experience they won't soon forget.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

“She has one of the most unique women's voices in the music industry today and her songs touch on a deep place in the human condition."

"Sharon is one of those artists who is a triple threat: talented, humble, and charming, and she certainly didn't disappoint."

"Definitely a worthwhile show to go see. She sounded great!"

    wow......wow...WOW

by Dpastirchak on 2/25/12music hall of williamsburg - brooklyn

I don't know if Sharon and her band are this amazing any time they play... but last night I feel like I witnessed something extremely special... something that felt like was special to them as well. I'm not one for long reviews... I cut to the chase.a Over this past year I have been to an insane amount of shows ... so yea I am pretty jaded. I am normally annoyed with audience members who tryto have conversation with the performer... half the time they're drunk and wind up making things awkward. Last night was freaking fun.... her band was amazing and really truly made me laugh... Sharon herself was quoting Mr.Show word for word and the audience members were loving it. On the rare occasion a audience member said something smart ass she zinged them good without coming off as better than. I was at a show (cough cough... st.Vincent..cough cough) where the audience laughed at every joke the permormer said just because she was.. well.. Annie Clark... even when her jokes weren't worth the bawl over laughing.. clearly the audience was kissing.. ya know. Sharon and her amazing band were really funny... normally I just wanna hear the.music.. less talk... more music.. but I totally loved it... it felt like we were hanging out and seeing some pretty beautiful music being played. Music wise this is one of the best live shows I've ever seen... her music is betterand bigger live.. her band was tight..the chemistry was just oozing off the stage. The opening band Shearwater was straight up beautiful..the lead singer would made the late great Whitney Houston blush.. This is easily on my top three shows I have ever seen. Please go see Sharon and her band as soon as possible.

    Great!

by Bobby321654 on 2/25/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Her voice was amazing. The sound was a little too loud, I thought. She only played 2 or 3 songs from her previous two albums. I wish she would have played a few more. The new stuff sounded awesome. I loved the drummer's goofy faces he made during the simple drum parts. I loved the backing vocals.

Great show for a brand new fan

by pdemasco on 2/25/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

I had never heard of Sharon Van Etten before reading a review two weeks ago. After listening to her three albums on Rhapsody, I was hooked and happily surprised she was playing at the Paradise. The show was fantastic and highlighted some of her best work. She and her band were engaging. Overall great show.

The main act with Sharon von Etten was great. The opening band was ok. Paradise is a great venue, the only problem is that the concerts are way too late. the first one started at 9:30. Only Royale is good with keeping up with the time

    Good show

by HamandEggs on 4/20/11Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Sharon put on a nice, intimate show. Some drunkies in the crowd insisted on trying to have a conversation with her, but other than that, really good songs and a really good vibe.

    Someone for the Ladies

by Marangale on 4/18/11Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Finally, finally a there is a musician and a woman who does not under estimate the intelligence or the emotional depth of her female audience. And men are moved too. However, I was fascinated by the female response to Sharon. She writes with such honesty, and uses a vocabulary that is immediate and both universal and peculiarly arcane. And then there is her voice. It is clear and guileless and leads us to trust her amazing sense of pitch. She teases us by hovering around the correct pitch and just when we cannot stand it any longer lands pitch perfect and everything seem right with the world.

Sharon's voice was on fire. Megafaun slays even when they're limited to an opening timeslot. She Keeps Bees was a super-pleasant fun-vibes surprise. yay.

I had chills through the whole show!

by emoy on 4/18/11Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

We had to brave a torrential downpour to get to the show but I already felt so close to Sharon's songs and music after listening to EPIC last summer and into the Fall. This was my first time seeing her play and her voice was so incredible, and the songs were even more moving in person than I could have imagined. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Hope to see her play again soon!

    Sharon Van Etten <c:3

by BehindEyes on 4/17/11Brighton Music Hall - Boston

St. Claire started off the night with a solid, soulful voice. She revived my faith that musicians can perform without relying on the aid of voice warping technology. The accordion player's voice sounded like Joanna Newsom to me when she sang. I love Joanna Newsom. Lady Lamb the Beekeeper came out and stole the audiences attention as she began to play with any intro or comments. That basically describes how she was throughout her playing time - in command of the venue with her intriguing and powerful sound. Then Sharon Van Etten arrived and won the hearts of all in the Brighton Music Hall. Her in-bewteen-sets commentary and explanations of how certain songs came about was adorable in the most mature way possible. Her voice and her band stayed strong the whole show and she came out for an encore....of THREE songs requested by the audience. All in all the show was about three hours which is incredible to think about for the price of the ticket.
