Really Fun, Could Use More Anime
by Haig K on 8/1/23This event was largely a blast, but it lacked most of that anime flavor that the one they held two years ago had. The latter two DJs weren't as good as I expected.

Senpai Squad Background
From its humble origins as a Houston-based collective of Audi enthusiasts with a passion for Itasha -- an automotive subculture with a focus on unabashed anime decals, vibrant color schemes and Japanese pop-culture aesthetics -- Senpai Squad has blossomed into one of the leading lifestyle brands at the intersection of automotive, anime and gaming culture. The group has made a name for itself hosting groundbreaking events ranging from Itasha meetups to cosplay raves and Comic-Con afterparties, delivering unparalleled experiences and collaborating with major brands and figures across industries, including renowned VTuber Ironmouse -- the biggest English-language Vtuber on Twitch, who briefly sported the highest number of paid subscribers on the entire platform -- and her talent company VShojo.
Senpai Squad Events
Company founder Kim Nguyen, no stranger to being ostracized for his singular interests, seeks to create welcoming, ecstatic spaces where fans and supporters can let loose, party and authentically express their passions for anime, gaming and cosplay in a safe, comfortable and judgment-free environment. Nguyen firmly believes that anime fans are some of the most fun people out there. He encourages his patrons to express themselves freely and fully, and hopefully find a sense of community amongst the like-minded crowds at Senpai Squad's shows and events. Expect live music, jaw-dropping cosplays, exclusive merch, special guests, and much more with the Senpai Squad experience! As the brand doubles down on its core vision, the future promises big things to come, with the company exploring exciting new ideas for products and events.

A pretty fun and energetic atmosphere presented by the hosts; especially in regards to the many throwback songs played.
You would expect that anime music would be played at an otakon after party, but both DJs, cam girl & kyon, (I didn’t hear the third DJ’s set) rarely played any and instead mainly played music from the 2000-2010s lol not even recent music. When they did play anime songs it was just the openings from pokemon, demon slayer, Tokyo ghoul, and cyberpunk, nothing else. And sure that would’ve been fine if the music overall sounded good and flowed smoothly, but it was just awful to listen to. The transitions between songs from both DJs were bad but one was significantly worse than the other. They also couldn’t read the room because when they finally did play a song people liked, they would cut randomly to another song. I’ve never felt like I needed to be severely wasted to have a good time at an edm concert until this event.
Everyone I met/knew had a great time. Been to 1 after party each day for AX, and Senpai squad was by far leagues ahead of the others. Stayed there til 2:30 am. Will go to their future events when I can!
Was very fun with a beautiful venue to party at and to start off AX night life
Was really impressed with the scheduling and experience. The picks for djs were great (my group loved find_the_rabbit) and impressed with how smooth everything went. It was really fun.
Overall it was a fun event but it should have been no more then $30. Most Guests of Honor showed up late and didn't mingle with everyone.
