About

Much like Five for Fighting or Dashboard Confessional, Secondhand Serenade is the project name for a solo artist, singer/songwriter John Vesely. Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area in a musical family that included his professional jazz musician father, Vesely spent a number of years playing bass in local bands before picking up the acoustic guitar and refocusing his attention on composing original material. Rather than releasing the new material under his name, Vesely chose to group them under a different moniker, Secondhand Serenade, which paid reference to the notion that all his autobiographical songs were directed first and foremost to his wife (and thus made the rest of his audience bystanders to their pas de deux). Vesely recorded his debut album, Awake, in 2005, originally self-releasing the disc and selling it online through his MySpace page and iTunes. Internet buzz led to a deal with Glassnote Records, who released an expanded version of Awake in February 2007. ~ Stewart Mason, Rovi

    dont waste your time

by wreckitralph on 3/31/13State Theatre - St Petersburg

The opening bands all were horrible even hometown favorite Juliet simms who decided to scream thru her songs vs sing and headliner john who only sang a few songs and was more concerned with having Veronica come on stage rather than sing the songs that made him popular guess he didn't notice half the room left and it wasn't because of the technical difficulties. .how about put on a show for the fans that support you! ! All 100 that stayed.

    Secondhand Serenade SoSo Slow

by lpowers2112 on 3/30/13Culture Room - Ft Lauderdale

I love Secondhand Serenade but they did an all acoustic show and I was very disappointed. If a band is going to play all acoustic, I want to know so that I can decide if I want to see it. Years ago I was disappointed when Counting Crows did the same thing and when I asked Adam Duritz, it was a small venue early in their career and he was standing in the back of the venue in the parking lot, he said, "sometimes I just feel like it." I understood it then as I do now but tell us, please. Sometimes we want it just the way it's played on the radio. Still, Secondhand Serenade is awesome and songs from their new album are fantastic.

    Secondhand serenade was awesome!

by Anonymous on 3/18/13Bowery Ballroom - New York

This was one of the best concerts I have been to. I loved the atmosphere of the Bowery, and the relaxed environment throughout the night. It was great to relax with a few drinks me listen to your favorite artist. I especially liked the opening acts for secondhand serenade, they were extremely talented! Secondhand serenade was unbelievable and I will always remember what a great concert this was!

John is absolutely AMAZING!!! He really made it a memorable experience. He's so down to earth and sincere. He stayed after the show and took pics and signed autographs until every last one of us had our time with him..

What can I say? Venue is perfect, the acts were awesome. Secondhand Seranade, John played some songs with Veronica Ballestrini, also awesome. Very intimate with some tables on the balcony. They stayed after for pictures. Loved it.

Fun atmosphere. Guy had great personality.

by cocoya on 3/5/13House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

REal nice "intimate" feel to the show. Just him and his acoustic guitar or piano. He was talking to the fans and you could talk back to him. Good personality made it a memorable show. Sound was great and his voice was right on! Played a lot of old good songs and some new ones were nice too. One of my favorite shows.

    It was okay

by egarcia27 on 3/1/13House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

Entire show was acoustic. His voice was great live. Wish he would've played longer but I guess you get a short concert with $30. It wasn't like other concerets I've been to with crazy lights, and smog and big screens on the stage. Met fans for a signing after the show while texting in between autographs.

    Show ruined by his personality

by Swinx on 6/11/11The Middle East - Cambridge

Music was great. Venue was ehhh ok. It would have been a great show if he didn't prove himself to be such an arrogant tool. I enjoy his music but his personality in real life ruins it. :)

The White Tie Affair stole the show. You could barely hear the singer from Second Serenade unless he was doing an acoustic song. Runner Runner was amazing but I don't really remember the first band.

by Nickisthepimpshitthe on 8/30/10Showbox at the Market - Seattle

Camera can't lie had great music but they need to learn to work the crowd, Runner Runner got the crowd pumped and Then white tie affair kept the party going....then secondhand serenade killed the fun because they suck!
