About

Much like Five for Fighting or Dashboard Confessional, Secondhand Serenade is the project name for a solo artist, singer/songwriter John Vesely. Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area in a musical family that included his professional jazz musician father, Vesely spent a number of years playing bass in local bands before picking up the acoustic guitar and refocusing his attention on composing original material. Rather than releasing the new material under his name, Vesely chose to group them under a different moniker, Secondhand Serenade, which paid reference to the notion that all his autobiographical songs were directed first and foremost to his wife (and thus made the rest of his audience bystanders to their pas de deux). Vesely recorded his debut album, Awake, in 2005, originally self-releasing the disc and selling it online through his MySpace page and iTunes. Internet buzz led to a deal with Glassnote Records, who released an expanded version of Awake in February 2007. ~ Stewart Mason, Rovi

    Second Hand Serenade was good

by Jackcori on 9/9/09House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

I enjoyed the music from Rust and Parachute and from Secondhand Serenade. Evan Taubenfeld was terrible. The concert was too long and the main act did not start until 10:30pm. I enjoyed it , but will not see it again.

    Pretty cool show.

by lovenarnia on 9/8/09House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

The supporting bands, in my opinion, were better and brought more to the stage than Secondhand Serenade did. John played with his back to the crowd most of the time and it was really mellow. Overall, it was a good set but the other bands definitely were more exciting than Secondhand Serenade. The Rust was really interesting. Evan Taubenfield was super charismatic and amazing stage presence. He really got the crowd going. Parachute just brought the excitement that night. They show their love and passion for music on stage. You just have a lot of fun watching them play.

    Small venue's Rock!!

by Calibreeze64 on 9/8/09House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

The Rust opened the show and really got everyone started with a great set! Even Taubenfeld was so fun and a total sweetheart giving out kisses for merchandise purchases, my daughter got her iPhone autographed, what a great personality! Parachute has an awesome fanbase, we were next to a group in the crown that as I do knew all the lyrics, and was rather loud about singing along bringing such a great vibe showing Parachute how loved they are. Will Anderson turned at the last second to give peace to my camera after the show awaiting the meeting of fans (see photo below) their performance was as stellar as when I saw them on 8/5/09 at the El Rey opening for The Script! What a great twist on all my favorite songs by John Vesley of Secondhand Serenade, he was incredible and loved loved loved the new songs I'll be first in line to buy his new CD when it's released! I can't wait!

    Up Close & Personal

by iluvkids on 9/7/09Sunshine Theatre - Albuquerque

Sunshine Theatre was a great place to see Secondhand Serenade and the other acts, in order to get up close and personal. We were able to stand only feet away in the crowd, and get close to all of the acts after the show. The acts were all great, with Evan Taubenfeld playing an acoustic version of his show, after his band had been left behind on a broken down bus, and unable to attend. I would recommend this tour to young and old alike -- I went with my 18 year old daughter for her birthday, and had a great time!

Secondhand Serenade and Parachute were great!

by c0ncertjunkie on 9/6/09House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

The concert was opened by The Rust and Evan Taubenfeld. I thought that Secondhand Serenade played a nice set, but Parachute stole the show. Parachute's performance was amazing, but their set was way too short for being the most well-known out of the three opening acts. John played a good combination of old and new Secondhand songs. It was nice that he played three songs for the encore. He could have have more crowd interaction, but other than that, great show!

    Parachute owned the show.

by amerrss on 9/5/09House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

The Rust was alright. Evan whatever-his-name-is is so amazingly cocky, I wanted to push him off the stage. His music wasn't too bad, though. Parachute was the best part of the show. They were energetic and fun. Secondhand Serenade was so boring. He honestly doesn't even need a full band. I would not see Secondhand Serenade again.

    Amazing Show!

by Mariah21 on 9/5/09House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

The concert was amazing!! All of the bands were a lot of fun to watch and especially Secondhand. John is so talented and wonderful and awesome. Haha. We got to meet all the guys from The Rust and Evan Taubenfeld and Parachute. It was a bummer though because John didn't come out and say hi to anyone so that sucked because he is who everyone was there to see.

    A long concert...with a small payoff

by THELV on 9/5/09House of Blues Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Going to this concert to see Secondhand Serenade you're probably going to be disappointed. our semi-great bands opened for 2 hours and the SS came out for a very short set. He was good but not great, seemingly disappointed by a less than full house.
