by Hwwoman on 5/5/24State Theatre - PortlandSarah Jarosz was an outstanding performer. The sound quality was excellent and her band’s musicianship is exceptional. She has a true talent for songwriting and then bringing her compositions to fruition. She’s also very personable and conversational. We saw her perform at the State Theatre in Portland, Maine on May 2. We were lucky to be able to move to vacant seats in the first row of the Lower Balcony just before Sarah Jarosz went on stage. We along with other women in the first row of the Upper Balcony had obstructed views of the stage. We brought this to the attention of the ushers and one of the staff members. There is not enough height difference between the last row of the Lower Balcony and the first row of the Upper Balcony. It’s impossible to see between people’s heads when the seats are filled. This should be clearly stated somewhere. I paid premium prices for these seats well over a month before the concert. Sure, there’s plenty of legroom because there’s an aisle there, but this just doesn’t justify the extreme loss of visibility. Five stars for Sarah Jarosz and her band! The ushers and staff members were all really friendly and helpful as well. The opener band was also very talented. Just be very mindful of what seats you select in the balcony, or you may have a less than optimal experience.
