San Jose Sharks History
The California Golden Seals played at the Oakland Coliseum from 1967–1976 before relocating to Cleveland. While a failure at the box office and on the ice, the Seals sowed the seeds for the Sharks' arrival some 15 years later. With Wayne Gretzky's trade to Los Angeles in 1988, hockey fever spread across non-traditional markets, and San Jose was among the first cities into which the league ventured.
The Sharks initially played at the Cow Palace in Daly City in 1991 before moving into their current home, the SAP Center, in 1993. The new digs agreed with the team, as they experienced an NHL record 58-point increase over the prior season. Early stars such as Sergei Makarov, Pat Falloon and the Latvian duo of Sandis Ozoliņš and Artūrs Irbe gave the Sharks an early level of respectability.
Gaining a reputation as giant-killers, the upstart Sharks dispatched the heavily favored Detroit Red Wings in the 1994 Western Conference Finals and the Presidents' Trophy-winning St. Louis Blues in 2000. The Sharks continued to flirt with success for the next decade, riding the talents of such star players as Owen Nolan, Marco Sturm, Evgeni Nabokov, Patrick Marleau, and Joe Thornton.
The Sharks went on to win the Presidents' Trophy in 2009, and have captured a total of six Pacific Division titles and appeared in the Stanley Cup Playoffs 21 times.

It was my first hockey game! I had an absolute blast! An amazing experience.
It was amazing and it was even better to see them win
To anyone who hasn’t seen or gone to a hockey game please do yourself a favor and go. I decided to go this month to catch the game and honestly the sensation of being there and supporting the team was fantastic. Haven’t been to a game since before COVID and I’m glad to say I’ll be going more often now. Truly an incredible game, the seats I got were fantastic and staff were super friendly. I just wish I could have gotten a picture with sharkey
I hadn't been to SAP Center in years and was only there to watch my hockey team finally play the SJ Sharks on a weekend! $15 for a Diet Coke and Powerade drink is quite ridiculous.
I took my friend to see a Shark's game for dinner after San Pedro Market Square. We had a blast! It was her first professional hockey game and I hadn't been for 10 years. We had a great time watching the game. The security at the arena is amazing with ushers at every stair landing so we could see the plays. We want to go back again soon.
Hockey experience was great. Very accommodating to my special needs. The problem I experience was once the event was over. Transportation was quite far me when on crutches. When I was dropped off, it was fine just across the street. I had no idea that the pick up spot would be somewhat of a distance for someone disabled. I most likely would not have attended the event if I knew how far the pick up spot was for after the game. Thanks
Sharks experience is always fun. I’m not sure if they have enough staff, but it was very annoying having people who kept walking up the stairs while the game was going on blocking the view. Prior years they had people in blue shirts, stopping people from doing that.
I went to a sharks vs Penguins game and the arena was amazing, staff was amazing; overall a great experience and will definitely return for another game.
The tickets shouldn’t of been as expensive as they were, being 0-9-1
SAP arena was clean and so easily accessible. We purchased parking right in front of the stadium and were on the interstate 15 minutes after getting in the car. So impressed with the speed in this process. Also, cushioned seats?! Never seen that in an arena. It was awesome.
I’ve never Been to the SAP Center before and was concerned about the parking situation. I have been to games where you have to walk a good distance to get to the venue. How great it was to see that I could park and walk easily to my seat. I love the atmosphere and excitement that the fans show at the sharks game. Very exciting but I was very happy that the Bruins won.
Two things that bugged me were the opening two games for which I attended we only got a cooking apron and a mask. I already see a promotion for a game a month from now getting a t shirt. That would have been a better giveaway at the start. So more useful and cool giveaways please. Then the food I saw on the titantron promotion for nachos that seemed good but didn’t say exactly where to find them so when I went looking I thought I found them but what I ordered looked nothing like what I saw on the screen. The ticket handling in the beginning wasn’t great either.
Although we were visiting the SAP Center as the enemy, I will say the staff and the fans were very welcoming. Clean facility and very comfortable seats. As a season ticket holder in Colorado, the Kronke’s should take notice of the comfy seats. My only complaint is $50 for 3 ice creams sandwiches is a bit ridiculous. (Although delicious)
great time spent with the family. all staff was friendly
Organize and the staff was very helpful Security was on point with rules Playmakers 10 of 10
Had a great time, seats were great and we got them at a great rate. It was so fun!
April 8th Oilers vs. Sharks in SJ. First visit and w/ my family. Great experience right from the greeting staff, to canteens staff and fans. Sure felt appreciated as soon as I walked in not knowing it was fan appreciation day.
Reasonably priced tickets, great experience, great food choices! Amazing giveaways!
SAP Center does it right. Clean easy to get in, loud and full of energy.
We enjoyed a lot of the dining options, the view was great and I wanted to thank the staff for letting us take pictures by the glass after the game
