San Jose Sharks History
The California Golden Seals played at the Oakland Coliseum from 1967–1976 before relocating to Cleveland. While a failure at the box office and on the ice, the Seals sowed the seeds for the Sharks' arrival some 15 years later. With Wayne Gretzky's trade to Los Angeles in 1988, hockey fever spread across non-traditional markets, and San Jose was among the first cities into which the league ventured.
The Sharks initially played at the Cow Palace in Daly City in 1991 before moving into their current home, the SAP Center, in 1993. The new digs agreed with the team, as they experienced an NHL record 58-point increase over the prior season. Early stars such as Sergei Makarov, Pat Falloon and the Latvian duo of Sandis Ozoliņš and Artūrs Irbe gave the Sharks an early level of respectability.
Gaining a reputation as giant-killers, the upstart Sharks dispatched the heavily favored Detroit Red Wings in the 1994 Western Conference Finals and the Presidents' Trophy-winning St. Louis Blues in 2000. The Sharks continued to flirt with success for the next decade, riding the talents of such star players as Owen Nolan, Marco Sturm, Evgeni Nabokov, Patrick Marleau, and Joe Thornton.
The Sharks went on to win the Presidents' Trophy in 2009, and have captured a total of six Pacific Division titles and appeared in the Stanley Cup Playoffs 21 times.

The game was amazing! The Sharks dominated the VGK all night.
Sharks hockey is one of the most exciting sports events you can see. Sharks playoff hockey is even more exciting.
Great service & awesome win! Seat had a wonderful view!
So much fun!! Great light show, exciting game, enthusiastic fans the Shark tank was rockin’!!!
Awesome pregame presentation! Playoff hockey is the Best!
Great venue, clean and awesome for watching the game. Staff was very helpful too.
Atmosphere and venue was bananas (in a good way). My fiance and myself had a blast watching the sharks sweep the ducks on home ice.
The goals by Marcus Sorensen and Tomas Hertl were amazing! Martin Jones was stellar in the net in shutting down the Ducks and helping the Sharks advance to Round Two with a 4-0 series sweep! Bring on the Golden Knights! Go Sharks!!! "Quack! Quack!" "Ducks Suck!!!"
Love this venue! The sweep was the best game ever!
I had do much fun I will go back to a other game everyone was so excited
My first playoff game ever and it was incredible! I’m a huge San Jose Sharks fan #BleedTealForever
This game was unforgettable!!!! Go Sharks!!! As far as venue good: comfortable seats, food, videos. not so good: leg space, when there is talking on the video it's very muffled (of course we are are talking about hockey players with broken teeth and mouth guards so maybe that's why!)
The Shark Tank was as loud and crazy as I've seen it in person. Playoff hockey is the best atmosphere to be in. If it was only that crazy in the first round, I can only imagine what it's like in later rounds
The energy in the area was amazing. The fans were behind our Sharks and there is not a bad seat to be had. Run night, cannot wait for the next game.
Had an amazing night at the Tank for playoff hockey. Atmosphere was loud. And we won, big.
It is always an amazing experience at the Share Tank! The playoffs are beyond amazing!! GO Sharks!!!!
Awesome seats. Fantastic game!!! Go Sharks!!! Let's do this!
None like any other game I’ve attended. Unforgettable!
Venue is great, food is delicious, plenty of convenient parking in area. On to the playoffs!!
It is an utter disgrace how Bay Area fans can be so disrespectful to a passionate San Jose Sharks fan. The San Jose Sharks are my undisputed all-time favorite team, but as I learned on Sharks Fan Appreciation Night, that is not good enough around these parts because Bay Area fans do not like the blue hat with “LA” on it that I wore with my throwback BlackArmor Sharks sweater that night. Now I know that being a passionate San Jose Sharks fan does not mean jack around these parts unless you also cheer for Bay Area teams. One of the most disgusting examples of this disrespect happened while I was eating a late dinner during 2nd Intermission. I sat on an aisle seat, which is quite convenient even if the protective railing somewhat obstructs my view of the net. While I was trying to enjoy my late meal during a 2nd Intermission in which my favorite team was already trailing 5-2, I had several Bay Area fans disturbing me so they could shove some reminder about the Giants in my face. I was eating for goodness sake and minding my own business, and Bay Area fans saw fit to stoop to that kind of low. It is disheartening to endure that kind of treatment because, on top of fans shouting “You Suck!” before the national anthem and also anytime there is a moment of silence before the national anthems, this is not the culture I signed up for when deciding to become a San Jose Sharks fan? Is this the modern San Jose Sharks culture now? I also want to complain that the San Jose Sharks do not play WWE superstars’ entrance theme songs like most other teams do. Instead, the music choice is lame, especially the pregame warmups playlist featuring songs that I cannot recognize a single word to try and do a search on it. Aside from that, I like the barber shop Brent Burns & Joe Thornton dual bobblehead doll that we got when we entered the arena. And I appreciate the team giving away prizes unlike the Golden State Warriors on their FAN Night.
