San Jose Sharks History
The California Golden Seals played at the Oakland Coliseum from 1967–1976 before relocating to Cleveland. While a failure at the box office and on the ice, the Seals sowed the seeds for the Sharks' arrival some 15 years later. With Wayne Gretzky's trade to Los Angeles in 1988, hockey fever spread across non-traditional markets, and San Jose was among the first cities into which the league ventured.
The Sharks initially played at the Cow Palace in Daly City in 1991 before moving into their current home, the SAP Center, in 1993. The new digs agreed with the team, as they experienced an NHL record 58-point increase over the prior season. Early stars such as Sergei Makarov, Pat Falloon and the Latvian duo of Sandis Ozoliņš and Artūrs Irbe gave the Sharks an early level of respectability.
Gaining a reputation as giant-killers, the upstart Sharks dispatched the heavily favored Detroit Red Wings in the 1994 Western Conference Finals and the Presidents' Trophy-winning St. Louis Blues in 2000. The Sharks continued to flirt with success for the next decade, riding the talents of such star players as Owen Nolan, Marco Sturm, Evgeni Nabokov, Patrick Marleau, and Joe Thornton.
The Sharks went on to win the Presidents' Trophy in 2009, and have captured a total of six Pacific Division titles and appeared in the Stanley Cup Playoffs 21 times.

Took my parents to their very first hockey game. Sat in the upper deck in the third row. Perfect location because it allowed them see the ice and surrounding area. Also helped that it was not crowded so there was no one was in front of us. The SJ Sharks gave them a great show by a win over the LA Kings. My dad really like the fast pace of the game and the fight. Ha! My mom loved that there were only 3 periods. We were so lucky to have been there for Timo's hat trick! Woohoo
5 GOALS in one game and two within 21 seconds!!??? 🤘🏼🥳🤘🏼
Got to the game half an hour early.. using Clear Ap got right in... tickets were on my Ticketmaster Ap on my phone... easy. Game was Amazing Timo scored 5 goals in a 6-2 Sharks win. Never thought I'd see that great a game. What time is it? 6 past Quick!
The all exclusive food , drinks were great, the drinks were excellent, the staff was very friendly & helpful.
First time to a Sharks game (regardless of affiliation). Everything from the CLEAR scan-in to game ticket scan-in was a breeze. Signage was easy to read and follow. Staff was welcoming and friendly. I did see ample signs and ushers with signs indicating to keep your mask on. I, the dude, abides. Others, not sure much - and to my surprise, ushers (equipped with signage) handled their business. Overall, great atmosphere, great seats, great view.... I'll be back - regardless of affiliation.
While walking the concourse with a perfectly good “face covering”, I was nearly tackled by an over zealous unknown aide who yelled that my “face covering” was “illegal” in the arena now and that I couldn’t go back to my seat. The aide then told me I had to go get a mask from the other side of arena. Then while seated not near anyone else, purposefully purchasing tickets in an empty row, the aides would not stop harassing people for not having a “face covering”. Unnecessary.
The Sharks and venue were great. However, we were not prepared to furnish our Covid vaccine cards and I was not aware there was a bag size limit. Luckily, we had our cards on hand. I saw that an email was indeed sent out about these things, but unfortunately that message just wasn't as in-my-face as it needed to be. There might have been a text for "How to prepare", but I think that seemed a little too general, and a text about "Bring your vaccine cards" and "bag size limits" would have been awesome. Everything worked out ok and we had a great time, but I am just not in the habit of checking my email about events :( I suppose in a post-pandemic world I will need to do this, but it is an awkward practice for me. It would have also been nice to have ushers reinforce the mask mandate in the tank. People were not "actively eating" and were hanging out with their mask off while holding a bottle of water. Thank you!
Arrived 75 minutes before the game, bought my parking pass online, very easy to get in and out of the parking lot. The Covid-19 verification line moved quickly. Got in, had dinner, watched warm ups and the hockey game was amazing. All 5 goals were scored on the end of the ice where my seats were located. Even the fight was on the same end! Sharks won. Best part, spending time with my adult son. Great memory for us.
This was a good match. Lots of SOG Hertl is always great to watch with the final game winner.
We waited a long while for someone to show up by the tent to have our vax card/ID checked. Then we were directed to another line for going through detectors. The arena site says doors open 75 minutes before the game. There was a 1/2 hour plus delay, & we waited in the cold. My husband has peripheral vascular disease & was in pain with all of the unexpected line standing. Once inside & settled, we have no complaints.
About 50% capacity, which was very comfortable. Getting in was quick and relatively painless. And the Sharks won!
Just a superb night of hockey! Easy check in. Exciting event.
Great game for my newbie hockey friends, lots of scoring, overtime and a shootout win, what more can you want.
Our first time attending a game since COVID started. It was a little disorganized with lines for showing your Vax cards. There were no signs/direction for knowing which line is for what purpose. Once in the SAP center it was the same as before. I did notice lots of empty seats and crowd participation wasn’t as exciting as prior to pandemic times. Although we had lots of fun and the Sharks did win! We will always come when we can to take in a Sharks game!
From the time we arrived till we left, it was easy. Good security checks and moved quickly. Mask mandate was enforced which was refreshing. Ticketmaster makes it easy to transfer tickets and get quick access to your ticket
The game was great, the seats were great, club level was great and the food was great. I also got engaged right after the game outside of the arena so that was great too! Thanks for all the good memories SAP Center!
The overall experience was really fun. Not quite sure about the addition of the seat lights. They’re a little much…. Food prices are out of bounds! Two orders of chicken strips, fries and two sodas was over $45 😳. True story! I’m not trying to acquire a new Sharks player with my concessions purchase. Makes it difficult to go again with a family of 4.
Took my nephew to the game for his birthday as the Sharks were playing against his Stars. Unfortunately for him the Stars lost, but the experience at the arena was a good one regardless. Friendly staff, accepting fans, and a great view no matter where you sit.
