    SD Gay Men’s Chorus

    by JF on 8/26/23

Amazing event watching the Mexico City and the San Diego choirs sing! I would give the event 5 stars except for the parking. I bought it with Ticketmaster. We put in the address from the web and when we got there the ticket was not recognized. So due to time we went in to park…only to find out that the entrance on the other side of the same garage was the correct entrance. So I paid $30 for parking instead of $10. It was frustrating and not the way to start a nice evening. Once there the event was marvelous.

    Wow!

    by Martinez on 8/3/23

I haven't been to many concerts. But I look forward to attending the next concert! I had such a great time this time. Very entertaining and I found myself smiling the whole time. It was very fun and having sat up in the balcony I still had a great view. The songs were great, the performance was awesome, and I loved the attire.

    That's Entertainment

    by JerryS on 8/1/23

They San Diego Gay Men's Chorus always puts on a great show, and has a variety of genres of music to offer. Combine them with the Gay Men's choruses of Mexico City and Tijuana, and you're in for a memorable night of song, dance and fun. I brought a party of 8 to the show on Saturday evening, and all left happy and singing. Also the message of unity against oppression was not lost on any of us.

Every show is a fun, transformative experience

by San Diego LGBTQ Ally (and Music Lover) on 6/22/23

The San Diego Gay Men's Chorus is an absolute delight to experience! Their musical ability is simply outstanding — I was captivated and so moved by their harmonies. Under the guidance of their new artistic director, their talent has absolutely soared to new heights. They seamlessly blend powerful vocals with incredible stage presence. From the moment of the first note, it's evident that the chorus is dedicated. (For me, they shine most during their holiday show, "Jingle"; their ability to connect emotionally with their audience creates a truly magical and unforgettable experience.) SDGMC is a shining example of artistic excellence, showcasing the transformative power of music and leaving a lasting impact on all who have the privilege to witness one of their shows.

    SD jingle

by SDLu on 12/14/22Balboa Theatre - San Diego

Very high quality of singing intricate harmonies with confidence. Excellent music director capable of selecting challenging music and providing scaffolding for choir to perform masterfully.

    Jingle Season

by String Bean on 12/14/22Balboa Theatre - San Diego

First time seeing a complete SDGMC performance. Have heard them a few times at community events. Balboa Theater is a wonderful venue. Third time at the venue. Overall, I was impressed with the presentation and the versatile performers on stage. Without detailing specific criticism, I thought the Santa Baby skit should have been omitted or done more tastefully.

San Diego Gay Men's Chorus, Jingle 2022

by Devotee on 12/13/22Balboa Theatre - San Diego

It was fun and refreshing, as always, but the sound engineering was poor. It was so loud that members of the audience in the center of the auditorium were covering their ears, and unfortunately, during the tap-dancing number, no one could hear the shoes hit the floor except in one quiet stretch, a real disappointment. Also, on the first number, one of the soloists continued to be miked after he rejoined the chorus, so his voice dominated all the others for the duration of the song. Finally, the balance between the choral sections was off, usually the tenor parts, either because they were not properly amplified or because their voices couldn't compete with the other sections. Other than that, it was great, but the sound issues were really prominent and, therefore, quite distracting. Finally, my friend brought her grandchildren, and faced some awkward questions afterward about the S&M "allusions" in the Santa Baby number.

    Not ready for Prime Time

by Jim on 12/13/22Balboa Theatre - San Diego

Sadly the performance was amateurish. The themes were not geared to a general audience. I will not be going again.
