San Antonio Spurs History
The story of the San Antonio Spurs began in the summer of 1973, when a group of local investors leased the Dallas Chaparrals and brought professional basketball to San Antonio. Midway through that first season, the group purchased the team outright, planting the roots of what would become one of the NBA’s most respected franchises.
The Spurs spent their first three seasons in the ABA before joining the NBA in 1976, alongside the Nets, Nuggets, and Pacers. Since entering the league, San Antonio has become a model of sustained success, boasting the second-highest winning percentage (.595) among all NBA teams. Over the decades, the Spurs have captured five NBA championships and 22 division titles.
The team has honored its legends by retiring 10 jersey numbers, including Hall of Famers George "Iceman" Gervin, David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker—all of whom helped define generations of Spurs basketball.
The 2025–26 season marks a significant moment in Spurs history. After 29 seasons as head coach, Hall of Famer Gregg Popovich has transitioned into the role of President of Basketball Operations. Stepping into the head coaching role is Mitch Johnson, officially named the 19th head coach in franchise history after serving as acting head coach for the majority of last season.
On the court the Silver and Black are led by NBA All-Stars Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox. They are joined by Spurs veterans Keldon Johnson, Devin Vassell and Jeremy Sochan while Stephon Castle, the NBA’s 2025 Rookie of the Year, returns for his second season. This summer the Spurs added veteran leadership with the additions of Luke Kornet and Kelly Olynyk. The 2025 NBA Draft brought more young talent to San Antonio, including No. 2 overall pick Dylan Harper and No. 14 pick Carter Bryant.

The Spurs family, wait my Spurs family are truly Blessed!
I love how they work together like a family.. and pop always has the team members back
Everyone there was helpful. My friend and I were having a great time. Seating was nice as well. Thank ya'll for a wonderful experience.
My partner and I went and even though we knew Wemby was the Spurs pick, the excitement we felt gave me chills. Spurs fans always come out and support their team. The AT&T Center sounded like game night. So grateful we were able to come together on that special night.
Great time at the draft party , feels like another championship in the making, the vibe was awesome, can’t wait to see the season start again, definitely need to buy a Spurs membership for the 23-24 season, Go Spurs Go !!!!!!
Other than there were a lot of people already in line when we arrived at 7 P.M., everything was great. I think they started letting people in at 7:30 P.M.
It was awesome the environment the entertainment thank you.go spurs go.
Want to thank you for the experience….can’t wait to go to the games!!!!
My sister was standing on her chair trying to get a T shirt and a lady pushed her and she got bruised but we still had fun. We were interviewed by channel 41 the Spanish channel, we are on u tube.
Good game but parking was ridiculous the Moody Center doesn't have parking and the covered parking garages near the gym was not open. If The Spurs do this in Austin again. Choose a facility where there's parking on the premises. Not having to park in a random neighborhood and walk 20 to 30 minutes to the gym . Also, most of the concessions were out of food by the end of halftime . This experience was not good ,especially coming from the Dallas-Fort Worth area and leaving 90 minutes before gametime from my hotel that was 9 minutes away and taking one hour to find a parking spot on the street.
Great opportunity to see the new Moody Ctr and support SA team without having to leave town. I hope they do this again!
The event was fantastic. There was a lot of energy, a lot of people and a real smooth movement of people. Thanks.
The Spurs game was so much fun! The Moody Center is a spectacular venue! Hope the Spurs keep coming back the The Moody Center for many years to come!
I was really pleased with the staff at Moody Center. They were very helpful and accommodating. I took my son for his 21st birthday and we had a great time.
I really enjoyed getting to see the Spurs in Austin and it was a great venue to be able to experience the game, I hope this becomes a regular venue for the Spurs.
Great game! Would go back to see the Spurs play if they come up here to Austin. Staff at Moody were great too!
Awesome seeing my Timberwolves come to Austin and play at the beautiful Moody Center. Great venue, great vibe and a unique experience seeing my favorite in NBA team come to Austin, TX
The experience was one of a kind. The service was A1. Will be back for more games. Especially in the INDEED SUITE.
Thursday night was great! Saturday...meh. The constant conversations, bar runs, blocking the aisles were distracting. It may be that the Thursday game was closer and a win, but not sure I'd go again.
It was horrible that I paid $260.00 to watch G Leaguers play. Totally was y worth the money. Won’t ever do that again!
