Sammy Hagar and The Circle on Tour
In 2014, rocker Sammy Hagar formed supergroup The Circle with drummer Jason Bonham, guitarist Vic Johnson, and former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony. The following year, after the group released a live album and DVD, At Your Service, a successful run of explosive tours saw the band playing everything from Montrose and Van Halen covers to Led Zeppelin tracks.
In 2019, the group are releasing their first studio album of original material with Space Between, out May 10, followed by a North American tour from late April to mid-June. Hagar, sometimes called the Red Rocker, is known to put on a fiery show. With his band of seasoned professionals enjoying onstage camaraderie, fans can expect an electrifying setlist complete with songs from each era, as well as tracks from the long-awaited new album.
Sammy Hagar Background
Sammy Hagar was born in Salinas, California, in 1947 and shortly after moved to Fontana, where he was exposed to classic California rock. At an early age, Hagar started learning guitar and played in a number of bands. His first frontman gig came at age 14 with the Fabulous Catillas; at the same time, he played rhythm guitar and sang in the Johnny Fortune Band.
Hagar's first big break came with his work in the band Montrose, a group started by guitarist Ronnie Montrose, who'd previously done session work for Edgar Winter, Herbie Hancock, and Van Morrison. Montrose dropped their first album in 1973, and the self-titled work charted on the Billboard 200. Some have called the album America's first heavy metal record. The group's second LP, Paper Money, came out the following year, and it reached No. 65 on the Billboard 200.
After leaving Montrose, Hagar embarked on a string of solo albums, finding a new level of success with 1982's Three Lock Box, whose hit single "Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy" reached No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 3 on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart. Hagar used his success to catapult his way into one of the decade's biggest rock acts, Van Halen, after vocalist David Lee Roth exited the group in 1985.
Hagar's first album with the band, 5150, reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, while single "Why Can't This Be Love" charted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Rock Tracks. The album went on to be certified 6x platinum. Between 1986 and 1995, Hagar would release four No. 1 charting albums with Van Halen.
Sammy and the Circle does it again! Great energy, great music and Sammy still sounds the same!
George Thorogood opened for Sammy and the Circle. Both bands entertained and had the place on their feet. Very well put together and a stellar performance.
They do Zepplin better that Zepplin... Also VH and SH of course. They Sound Great, can even do vintage VH with Michael Anthony vocals. the Venue is also great.
Sammy never disappoints! Loved the performance. Best one this year at the Amphitheater.
George Thorogood and the Destroyers still rock and sound great. Sammy and the Circle were awesome and hard core. Rocking great time!
Always a killer show. . .seen Sammy Hagar and the circle twice now and was very impressed by the whole show . . Sammy tunes. . . Van Halen tunes and led Zeppelin tunes all played note for note as the studio version . . They take no liberties with the songs . .each member of the band is equally impressive. . Micheal Anthony sang quite well this second show in St Augustine . . Don't remember much of him singing in the first concert several years ago . . Go see em if you get the chance. . .the drummer Jason Bonham will blow your mind he's so good . . Van Halen bassist Mike Anthony always rocks and Vic,Johnson on the lead guitar is amazing . . .plays Eddie Van Halen like it's no problem lol . .you gotta see this show . .you will be impressed I guarantee it !!!
We've seen Sammy and the Circle a few times now, but this was probably the best. Great energy from him and the band, super evening and weather, and a great crowd. A wonderful time. Played long enough that I felt like we got our money's worth, and a bit more, but did not over do it thinking we needed to hear every song he'd ever done. Nice mix of old and newer as well. The Montrose Rock Candy was lots of fun. Recommend.
THAT WAS ONE OF THE, IF NOT THE, BEST ROCK CONCERT I'VE EVER SEEN! I cannot wait for Sammy and crew to come back to St. Augustine!
Our 2nd time in the past few years seeing Sammy in St Augustine. He was even better this time. And Michael Anthony was amazing. The energy and complete involvement with the audience is like nothing I’ve ever seen. I would see them again without question.
76 years old and Sammy sounds as great as ever. This show is definitely up there with some of the greats I’ve seen over the years. What a treat!
Ticket master tickets easy peasy. Concert one of the best. Sammy had so much energy. It was a great concert. I would see hom again
Our first time here! Venue is great! Not a bad seat. Show was fantastic! Had a great time!
Sammy Hagar and George Thorogood were exceptional, however the parking in St Aug was horrendous.
Sammy was on fire- along with band members mike anthony, Jason Bonham & Vic Johnson. Probably the most interactive artist I have ever seen. He was wearing fans gear- signing it and giving it back … signing posters, flags, hats…. Passing out shots of tequila … taking every opportunity to connect with his fans- while never missing a beat rocking his songs. His voice hasn’t changed a bit- and the show was great! He might be one band to consider getting seats in the front 2 or 3 rows if you want to connect with him
Sammy and the Circle put on an excellent performance! Sounded great. Awesome venue.
Sammy Hagar! Michael Anthony and George Thorogood were absolutely amazing! You would NEVER know Sammy Hagar was 76 years old! They really rocked man!
Great show, EVERY member of the Circle is a top notch Musician. We are sitting here 4 days later talking about how great this show was.
