Sammy Hagar and The Circle on Tour

In 2014, rocker Sammy Hagar formed supergroup The Circle with drummer Jason Bonham, guitarist Vic Johnson, and former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony. The following year, after the group released a live album and DVD, At Your Service, a successful run of explosive tours saw the band playing everything from Montrose and Van Halen covers to Led Zeppelin tracks.

In 2019, the group are releasing their first studio album of original material with Space Between, out May 10, followed by a North American tour from late April to mid-June. Hagar, sometimes called the Red Rocker, is known to put on a fiery show. With his band of seasoned professionals enjoying onstage camaraderie, fans can expect an electrifying setlist complete with songs from each era, as well as tracks from the long-awaited new album.

Sammy Hagar Background

Sammy Hagar was born in Salinas, California, in 1947 and shortly after moved to Fontana, where he was exposed to classic California rock. At an early age, Hagar started learning guitar and played in a number of bands. His first frontman gig came at age 14 with the Fabulous Catillas; at the same time, he played rhythm guitar and sang in the Johnny Fortune Band.

Hagar's first big break came with his work in the band Montrose, a group started by guitarist Ronnie Montrose, who'd previously done session work for Edgar Winter, Herbie Hancock, and Van Morrison. Montrose dropped their first album in 1973, and the self-titled work charted on the Billboard 200. Some have called the album America's first heavy metal record. The group's second LP, Paper Money, came out the following year, and it reached No. 65 on the Billboard 200.

After leaving Montrose, Hagar embarked on a string of solo albums, finding a new level of success with 1982's Three Lock Box, whose hit single "Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy" reached No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 3 on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart. Hagar used his success to catapult his way into one of the decade's biggest rock acts, Van Halen, after vocalist David Lee Roth exited the group in 1985.

Hagar's first album with the band, 5150, reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, while single "Why Can't This Be Love" charted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Rock Tracks. The album went on to be certified 6x platinum. Between 1986 and 1995, Hagar would release four No. 1 charting albums with Van Halen.

No shortage of energy! I hope you all set up more dates … I’m in! One of the best concerts I’ve seen and I’ve been to many. Thank you♥️

Great Show Sammy plus Michael Anthony on bass!

by Tbone_Brewski on 10/30/23The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St Augustine

This was a great all around show. Lot's of songs from Hagar and Van Hagar. And even 1 from the OG Van Halen sung by Michael Anthony! As always Mike does a great job and Sammy has still got the pipes and makes the show fun! The other guitarist and the drummer were awesome as well. The only thing that would've made it better for me would've been if they had done the HSAS version of Whiter Shade of Pale. That version has been my favorite since the moment I first heard it. And George Thorogood was fun and put on a great show with most of his hits. The Venue we were at has a strict shut down time of 10pm so I'm not sure if this may have impacted the length of the sets or not. Get the tickets and go see this show asap!!!

    Glad I went

by Gravedigger on 10/29/23The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St Augustine

I’m going to echo what you are probably going to hear a lot – yikes, the guy still rocks even at 75 (BTW: same age as Alice Cooper). Though I’ve enjoyed some of his solo stuff – I went to hear the Van Halen hits, and was not disappointed. With a pre-recorded piano track they were able to do Right Now, and pulled it off brilliantly. I was wondering if his guitarist could step into Eddie‘s shoes-, and he did, flawlessly. Sammy must have autographed a dozen or more items.(posters, license plates, hats, jackets.) while he was still performing. I’ve never seen that before from a performer and I’ve been to hundreds of shows- maybe that’s his niche – but it was interesting.

    Shine On

by SpursUp on 10/29/23The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St Augustine

I never been to an event where everyone knew what they were doing. The amphitheater was fantastic and the entertainment was even better. George Thorogood shined as he always does, I didn’t think he could be outdone, but here come Sammy and his mates. What a great show! I can’t believe that these guys are putting the younger groups to shame but that is what’s happening at a Sammy Hagar and the Circle show. I wish popular music was still about music and talent. Sammy and the guys are all the best of the best. Thanks Circle for another great time.

    Parking was a Problem

by TC on 10/29/23The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St Augustine

First of all the show started too early--6:30. That presented problems in getting there from Jacksonville. Traffic was horrible. When I got there, the parking lot was full. So, I went to the satelite parking lot, and it was also full. The event parking employee told me to park on A1A--a highway! That being said, there were no spots on A1A. I did not feel safe parking my car on the side of the road anyway, and I wasn't going to park in someone's yard. I ended up eating the tickets and driving home. Hope the show was good. Will never buiy tickets to the St. Auguistine Ampitheater again.

    Legends

by Christy on 10/29/23The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St Augustine

Easiest review ever- George Thoroughgood. Sammy Hagar. Two legends. Go see them. Thought they don’t act like it, they’re in their 70’s. Should be on everyone’s bucket list no matter their genre preference.

    Red rocker continues to rock

by Chris M on 10/29/23The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St Augustine

Sammy and the boys are on of the hardest working bands in rock. This show is worth it every time. Traveled from NY to see them. A little solo stuff, some VH, some Zep and Montrose. How do you go wrong?

    Excellent concert

by Cindy in Florida on 10/29/23The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St Augustine

The opening acoustic accompanied singer was very good! Then George Thorogood came out and blew us away. We were anticipating a let down from Sammy Hagar, but he definitely rose to the occasion! Great show!
