About

Russell Peters on Tour

The rare North American stand-up comedian who can sell out arenas from L.A. to London to Sydney, Russell Peters returns to the stage with his latest roving revue, dubbed The Deported tour.

The current show features Peters' first set of all-new material since taking a break from stand-up after filming his 2016 Netflix special, Almost Famous (though he was hardly idle during that stretch — on top of starring in a handful of films, Peters also launched his own prime-time series, The Indian Detective, which came to Netflix in 2018).

Despite ascending to rock-star status in the comedy world — complete with dramatic, dry ice–assisted entrances — Peters' routine is still rooted in relatable, everyday anecdotes, as he regularly reenacts amusing family conversations that give his jokes a broad, cross-cultural appeal.

Russell Peters Background

Raised in the suburbs of Toronto by Anglo-Indian parents, Russell Peters is a true 21st-century comedian, with a massive international following that reflects the connectivity of our world in the online age. And he actually owes his big break to the Internet.

After paying his dues on the Canadian stand-up circuit for 15 years, Peters became one of the first comedians to go viral — in 2004, clips of his Comedy Now special began circulating on the then-nascent YouTube platform, with his astute observations on racial stereotypes earning him fans across the cultural spectrum.

Since then, Peters has sidestepped the traditional Hollywood star-making machinery to cultivate audiences in places most North American comedians never venture — countries like Lebanon, Singapore, and Indonesia.

Despite never starring in a massive film or TV series like Jerry Seinfeld or Chris Rock (who once quipped that Peters is "the most famous person nobody's heard of"), he orbits the same stratosphere when it comes to selling tickets. In 2013, Forbes magazine ranked him the third-richest comedian in the world with annual earnings of more than $20 million. However, in recent years, Peters has made significant inroads to becoming a household name in America, thanks to his well-received 2016 Netflix special, Almost Famous.

    rusell peters was great!

by peeky13 on 7/16/09General Motors Place - Vancouver

i really liked seeing russell peters live. i think that he was hilarious! i wish he went more into the the different ethniticity voices, especially more of the native and chinese ones. i loved how he worked in some of the older material and comments. i laughed so hard on the white guys are like cassette tape comments!! i wish he had more material though....i think he played on the activities in the front row a bit too much rather than written material. on the other hand it didn't seem rehearsed that way. poor powder...was getting picked on alot in the front row. i love those guys paying way too much for the tickets than getting blasted for the benefit of others laughter. way to go! it was worth going out and paying $100 in the middle of a recession. thanx.

Russell has no limits! Take it and go!!!!

by Creampuff on 7/16/09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

The best part about Russell is that he doesn't pull any punches. Even the day after Michael Jackson died, Peters was able to still make like of it in a (somewhat) tasteful way. You know you were at a good comedy show when the next day you felt like you did a hundred sit-ups.

    Russell Is So Funny

by Somebodygonnagethurt on 7/16/09Air Canada Centre - Toronto

This guy is the best, we saw his show in Toronto and he is so funny. We meet him at the Toronto airport coming home from L.A and he is just as funny off the stage. Making people laugh is truly a gift keep up the great job Russell. Next time we meet my daughter Christina wants to cut your hair and then you can come over for an espreso.

Russel Peters -- brown pulp extraordinaire

by Caine007 on 7/16/09Air Canada Centre - Toronto

There's nothing like Russel Peters, the show contained some old good jokes and some brand new ones as well. Russel Peters is a rockstar in Toronto, and as an American, I was impressed to see the entire Air Canada Center full!

    Waste of time and money

by budf on 7/16/09General Motors Place - Vancouver

Not funny - waste of money. He should write more dialogue instead of picking on the audience. I'm shocked at his popularity.

    good material but hard tounderstand

by klev on 7/15/09Air Canada Centre - Toronto

The show was great, but the acoustics were not great, and made it hard to enjoy. Also I think the tickets were a bit pricey for where we were sitting and how little we could see. it was a nice long show which made it feel worth while. If you love Russell go see it, it's a good show.

    Funny as usual

by realyummie on 7/15/09General Motors Place - Vancouver

Fourth time seeing Russell Peters. As usual, always funny! Considering the circumstances with his allergies killing him he put on a great show. Like he says, his shows are only as good as his audiences!!!!

    Russell Peters

by missdld on 7/15/09Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Russell's one man show did not disappoint. The majority of his material was fresh and new. He pushed the envelope surrounding different cultures without crossing the line and poked fun at the realities and stereotypes. I was concerned that the size of the venue would impact the enjoyment of seeing a comedian but Russell has a way of connecting with his audience despite the massive crowd.

Russell Peters is an incrediable comedian.

by Homer50 on 7/15/09Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Russell went with some old stuff and some of his unforgettable classics. He blended them well together and provided two hours of entertainment. He is an amazing comedian and deserves all of his accolades!! Watch this show if you get the chance.

    Less Entertaining

by TrishL on 7/14/09Air Canada Centre - Toronto

We were disappointed in his performance...... overuse of foul language & content... much more so than we had remembered from previous shows. Not necessary to this extreme - deteriorated his show.

    Russell Peters was great!

by Udi48 on 7/14/09Air Canada Centre - Toronto

I love Russell Peters. He says it like it is - no one is excluded. He brings out the whole irony of racism - and the beauty if individuality. No one is exempt from having good or bad qualities. He engaged the audience, he is extremely articulate and entertaining. He is one of my favourite comedians, and I loved the show!
