About

Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic were both working in Bondi before getting together one day in 2019 with their guitars and song sketches. Without any expectations, they soon spotted it: an unspoken chemistry that resulted in effortless rock wonders, tunes that somehow seemed as if they’d always existed, releasing a string of EPs. In 2024, they released the soaring debut album, PRATTS & PAIN, which kicked off a legendary run; preceded by the pair’s Triple J “Like A Version” recording, taking on Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s “Murder on The Dancefloor.” The performance became a zeitgeist shaping hit, hitting No. 1 on Alternative U.S. Radio, No. 2 on the Billboard Alternative Airplay and Triple J’s Hottest 100 charts. Their Sirius XM Session cover of the Cranberries’ “Linger” led the band to their first Billboard Hot 100 hit and has over 220 million global streams. They went on to play more than 100 sold out shows the rest of 2024, selling over 100,000 tickets across Australia, U.K, Europe and U.S. They then returned home to Australia as one of the most nominated artists at the 2024 ARIA Awards, winning four awards including “Best Rock Album” and “Best Group.” Since their culmination, Royel Otis have drawn from an endless source of good hooks and spirit — riding on their musical chemistry that exudes into mixes of melody and bittersweet humor — cementing their status as one of the most effortless and endearing rock bands to emerge this decade.

  • Incredible

by Seeschulz on 9/23/25Stubb's Waller Creek Amphitheater - AustinRating: 5 out of 5

Bought tickets months back because I was really feeling their music. I’m obsessed. Their drummer? Incredible. Otis's voice live? Put everything together and it was one of the most fun concerts I have been to. I sang and danced the whole time and enjoyed every minute of their show. Will definitely see them as many times as I can live. These guys are going to be huge.

  • Good

by Manda on 9/21/25The Ritz - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

Good energy, loved it. Set was a little short though. Less than an hour and a half. I don’t know if this was because of them or the venue though. There were a few more songs I wish we would have heard.

  • Beyond Expectations

by Lauryn on 10/29/24Neptune Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Happy to say we had an unforgettable experience at the Royel Otis concert in Seattle! I took my 12 year old niece along with me as a birthday gift and it exceeded our expectations! From the moment they stepped on stage, the energy was electric. The sound quality was great, and the setlist had all our favorite songs including their covers. Royel and Otis’ interaction with the audience was genuine and heartfelt, and made us feel like we were part of the show. Each song was performed with passion, and the set design and lighting effects added an extra layer of excitement. They were even gracious enough to stay after the show and sign MANY things from audience members, including the merch my niece and I bought. Also, huge shoutout to the opening band, Friko! You guys were absolutely incredible and your energy was insane. This was easily one of the best live performances I've ever attended and an experience my niece will never forget. Thank you Royel Otis!

  • EXCELLENT

    by 40+ Oakland on 10/21/24Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

Husband and I haven’t been to a live performance in ages. I have been trying to get him to listen to this group the last year to no avail, so he wasn’t too excited about coming. The opening act wasn’t the strongest so when RO hit with their opening song he was blown away. Their sound was crystal clear, their transitions flawless, their vocals in perfect tune, the light show on perfect cue. It was not just that their music was amazing, but the entire performance was 100% top notch execution. An awesomely well produced show with a well deserved request for the encore. I got more than my money’s worth. Wish I had seen them twice while they were in town but can’t wait until they’re back in the Bay again.

  • Great show from the boys down under

by Nbrit on 10/20/24Hollywood Palladium - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

The balcony seats with our own waitress was awesome! I recommend. Royal Otis were excellent - very tight with the music - would see them again. Songs were about 3 min each- negative was they came on @ 10pm and played for about 1:15. Great show!

  • Too short

by Laser Heart on 10/19/24Hollywood Palladium - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5

Love royal otis. Really gave it their all…for just over an hour. If they would have gone the distance be 5/5.

  • Royal Pain

by Surfcoach on 10/19/24Hollywood Palladium - HollywoodRating: 1 out of 5

While looking to see some new bands and listen to some new music we decided to go see Royal Otis based on music heard on radio and you tube. Royal Otis came out with a screeching guitar lick that was neither in tune, mixed, or constituted music on a fret board. It got worse from there when the rest of the band joined and attempted to play some sort of music with any type of rhythm. Looking around at the crowd, you did not see the normal rocking back and forth or singing along that you would typically see at a concert. Although a bit older, if this is what constitutes music for the younger generation, then they can have it. Royal Otis was neither Pop Punk or Indie Rock but 3 guys pounding strings to a drummer that did not hold a beat who was drowned out by bad acoustics and sound engineering. We were disappointed to say the least. We left after 20 minutes to preserve our sense of what music should really be like and spared our ears from this noise. Ironically, as we were leaving, even the staff said good for you for walking out, as they wished they would not have to suffer through this mess. Royal Otis would be best served by listening to their recorded music and comparing to their live concert and adjust both the sound and setlist accordingly.

  • Royel treatment

by OC Frank on 10/18/24The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Highly enjoyable! The band doesn’t do a lot of on stage activity, they just play the hell out of their music and kill it. The audience was fully engaged, the venue was perfect for this band and there were a lot of fans that went multiple nights, it was so cool!

  • Amazing

by Madison on 10/3/24Rating: 5 out of 5

They sound even better live and they show genuine care for their audience. Roy came down to the front row and gave everyone high-fives, while Otis made lots of great eye contact and interacted with fans often. I have great appreciation for artists that show love and appreciation to their audience, and as a member of the audience, I felt seen, which made the overall experience even better.
