About

Roxette is a pop-rock duo hailing from Sweden, with Marie Fredriksson on vocals and Per Gessle on guitar and supporting vocals. Before Roxette, both Fredriksson and Gessle had established musical careers in their home country, until joining to record their first Swedish hit single,” Neverending Love.”
From the band's inception in 1986, they achieved international acclaim in the late ‘80s, thanks to Look Sharp!, their commercial breakthrough album. They have sold over 60 million records globally and received gold and platinum awards for their Joyride and Look Sharp! albums. Their greatest hits album was Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus, which was followed by a hiatus until 1999, when Have a Nice Day was released, followed by Room Service in 2001. After a 10-year break, Charm School was released in 2011, followed by Travelling in 2012.
Roxette have toured globally, with their 1991 worldwide tour going out to over 1.5 million fans across a challenging schedule of 107 concerts. They have also toured extensively throughout Europe and Latin America, where they have won Platinum awards, and featured at the Night of the Proms, as well as a number of international concerts. They have also received multiple awards, including the Grammys, MTV, Rock Music Awards and more. “Listen to Your Heart” and “It Must Have Been Love” have received BMI awards for notching up over four million plays on the radio.
They are notable for breaking the tricky US market almost by accident, when an American student bought a copy of Look Sharp! home in 1988 and passed it to a local radio station. Popular reception saw Roxette's music rapidly spread to other radio stations, and marked the start of their success on the international market. EMI released The Look in the US in 1989 and it went straight to No. 1 in the American charts, later topping the music charts in 25 countries. Other notable releases include Dressed for Success, Dangerous in 1989, and the hit “It Must Have Been Love,” which featured on the film Pretty Woman and was the band's most successful release, topping the charts globally and going platinum three times. Later releases include Crash! Boom! Bang! in 1994 and Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus in 1995. Have a Nice Day was released in 1999.

  • THE BEST BAND! AND FANTASTIC CONCERT!

by ForeverRoxette on 9/7/12Beacon Theater - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Being a Roxette fan for over 20 years I was going to the concert at Beacon theater, prepared for the best show of my life. And Roxette managed to surprise even me and exceed all my expectations!!!! From the first “Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!” of “Dressed for Success” till the finishing chords of “Church of Your Heart” it was pure magic in the air! Every detail of this show took my breath away - the rock sound of a 100% live show, the power of Marie’s voice that reaches deep down to your soul, the energy of Per, his harmonica solo or fun interaction with Christoffer during the mind blowing guitar riffs, awesome key board solos from Clarence totally blew me away!!!!! Dea was charming and Pelle and Magnus as always at their best :) Not to forget Magnus’s gig with sex machine during the band presentation - it was so cool! Every single one of them gave us 200% of their energy and love! The band members interacted with the audience and the audience response was outstanding! We sang along every song from start to finish and I never wanted this concert to end. This is official – Roxette is the best there is! The US fans are hungry for their music and never stopped loving Per and Marie! I really hope this is the beginning of a new era of Roxette in the US. Time to give them their well deserved publicity here and join the rest of the world, who’s been admiring the pure talent of Roxette for over two decades now.

  • Worth the wait, so thankful

by ZFcamaro on 9/7/12Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Where do I begin, As a young boy I remember the first time I heard Roxette on the radio. It was clearly unique and someting unlike anything I had experienced before. I was able to see them in Boston over 20 years ago and it was my first concert. I always wondered why they never came back and never thought I would get to see them again. When I found out they were returning this year I couldn't believe it! This concert was very different from the first but just as incredible. It is very obvious that Per and Marie care about their fans and enjoy performing for them. I can't thank them enough for returning to us and hope it will not be the last time. I wish I could have stayed after the show, it breaks my heart knowing that they came out and I missed a chance to meet them. Thank you to ALL the band members, a night I will never forget and if you come back I'll be right there with you again.

Concert was amazing - that's because I REALLY love Roxette, but I also liked Beacon Theater (my first time there). Sound was good, the venue was nice, check in process was prompt, etc. However, our seats were too far - even though the tickets were quite expensive (i2nd most expensive option). Everyone in front stood up, and it was hard to see the stage. Sound was good, tho.

  • Great show

by Jseven on 9/5/12Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The band sounded great and the crowd was very much into the music. I give Marie a lot of credit based upon her past health issues. Her voice sounded great!

  • Best concert I've attended todate

by Namal on 9/5/12Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I was a Roxette fan since age 15. I have been dreaming of attending one of their concerts ever since. I finally had the chance and it was exactly what I was hoping for if not more. Only thing that ruined it for me was the two idiots fans who stood in front of me the whole time until I decided to stand up and walk to a different location. Would be happy to go see them again.

  • Amazing!!!

  • Roxette rocks!

by DEBALEBS on 9/5/12Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Roxette continue to excite their fans! They have had so many hits - they had the crowd energized and singing along. Just looking at the faces of everyone around me, I could tell how much everyone was enjoying themselves. It just thrills me to know that so many people are so moved by their music. This was one of the most enjoyable concerts I've been to - and I go to many! Marie and Per sound just like their records ! They are great onstage with a solid backing group. Catch this show if you can - you won't be sorry. I hope they come back to NY soon - or maybe do some shows in Vegas!

  • Wonderful songs and performance

by Bestcookie on 9/5/12Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Roxette is still the same great duo as 20 years ago. They played all the good songs and included a few new ones. The energy they put on their performance makes it an owesome experience. Great voices.

  • Roxette Rocking NY

    by dimonds2000 on 9/5/12Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I have waited over 20 yrs to see Roxette in the US and they wait is over and it was more than heaven. Marie's voice was strong and soulful while Per in perfect rhythm along with the rest of the band made the venue vibrate!

  • Roxette at House of Blues, Boston

by Sushil on 9/5/12House of Blues - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I have been a huge Roxette fan for the last 22 years and I finally watched them live for the first time at the House of Blues in Boston. They were at their best....they were full of energy.....one of the best concerts I have been to. The set list was great. They played most of their biggest hits. I absolutely want to watch them again. I hope they will come to Boston again whenever they are are in the U.S next time. The turnout here in Boston was low which indeed was a little disappointing. But everyone who attended the concert was singing along. Per Gessle and Marie did a great job of engaging the crowd. I would recommend watching Roxette even if you haven't heard about them. I wish them all the best for the remaining concerts in this tour and hope to see them come up with more albums in future.

  • Great Show

by spmahn on 9/5/12Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Roxette hasn't played a show in the United States in many, many years, so I was really looking forward to this show. They didn't disappoint, the show was fantastic from top to bottom, I can't recommend it enough. The opening act however, I think her name was Hester Prynn or something, she was absolutely awful. Her faux DJ act was totally out of place on a live stage, and when she actually tried to sing, I thought she was going to bust a chandelier. I could have gotten onstage and done a better job warming up the audience than she did.

  • Roxette was awesome!

    by poa1 on 9/4/12Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Great show and they sang all the hits from 80s and 90s.

  • Roxette fell but show went on

by Anonymous on 9/4/12Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

It was a great show, perfect venue....Marie fell but recovered, I felt bad because after the show she stumbled out to sign autographs clearly hurt but devoted to her fans. The show was great, they sang most of their hits and rocked on..... It was quite a treat to see them live.

  • Roxette was awesome !!!!!!

    by Alex77 on 9/4/12Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I was waiting to see Roxette live for almost 20 years. This concert was awesome and I'm very happy to have opportunity to see them.

  • Roxette Kicked Ass

    by Timmy68 on 9/4/12Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time seeing Roxette in concert. If you don't count the mini concert they performed at the Virgin Mega Store in Times Square. They were like a fine wine. Aged to perfection. They played all of their classic hits and a few of there newer songs. The only song that they did not play, that disappointed me, was Wish I Could Fly which is one of my favorite of their songs. But I guess they can't please everyone. But that does not take away from what was a monumental night as this is Roxette's first US concert in 20 years. I can't say enough good things about this concert. I will remember it forever.

  • Worth the 20 year wait!

by HOWDOYOUDO on 9/4/12Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing Show. Roxette played well Live and fed off the crowd which fed off them. Theatre rocked.

  • by addik on 9/4/12Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

nothing extraordinary but 'twas a good show, we had a blast!!

  • One of the best concerts ever.

    by esoteric76 on 9/4/12Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Maybe it was the fact that they hadn't been to NY in 20+ years, and maybe it was because we had second row center, but Roxette put on an amazing show. They did nearly all of the hit singles, with the original arrangements that you love and remember. It was so wonderful seeing this band after so many years and so many awesome albums. The set definitely leaned heavy on the 80's and early 90's material, with a few detours into the later years. It will be a night I will remember for a long time!

  • Roxette was fantastic!!

by FilmCrazyAdam on 9/4/12Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

This is my all time favorite band and they delivered everything I'd hoped they would. This was fantastic. They invited everyone to sing along during all the songs. But there would be points during certain songs where they would stop and prompt the audience to sing the lyrics instead. It was great and really fun that way. The venue was gorgeous, exactly what you'd expect to find on Broadway. The drinks were priced as you'd expect and they had a wide range of choices. They had minibars set up on all the floors, which was great because i didn't have to run down stairs and stand in line for just one mini bar. The sound was great, the band was great, the lighting was great (except for being blinded a bit). Overall I had a great time and would recommend this to anyone who's a fan of Roxette.
