Even though Roomful of Blues' lineup has changed over the years, the band has always been one of the tightest, most joyful blues ensembles in the world. Currently an eight-piece unit led by guitarist Chris Vachon, the band has never sounded fresher or stronger. In 2007, singer Dave Howard took over the vocal duties, bringing his gritty and soulful vocals and adding another bright new dimension to the jazzy, jump-blues musical roots. Their winning combination of jump, swing, blues, R&B and soul remains their calling card, as does their ability to fill the dance floor.
Band was super Music was too cool We enjoy every minute there
The Roomful of Blues show was rockin'. From the opener, Bruce Marshall Band , to the main event, the music was fabublous and the venue was perfect!
We used to see this group back in the college days and they were terrific. Well they've perfected their craft and bring a rich full sound that brings the listener on a fun filled journey that made this 50 year old feel 20 again! This music is an elixer for the ears and will surely garner new legions of fans both young and old. This is real visceral music, not over produced and synthesized, computer generated fluff.
I am no stranger to these type of events and being a musician myself I know what people should expect. Room ful of Blues put on a great show however I was not impressed with the quality of sound. When they started I could not hear the horns at all. The sound tech did make adjustments but this lead me to believe that no sound check was done and if it was done then it wasn't done properly. Also when horns are used they need to be blended very carefully so that all voices within the section can be heard. I could not hear (from stage left) the trumpet or trombone unless they soloed....their voicing was not heard as a section. However it did sound a little better from in front of the stage....just didn't get the same sound from stage left or stage right.
Loved it! It was our first time at this venue and we both loved the set up! Roomful of Blues has been around as long as I have and it was fun to see they still enjoyed their "work". I would highly recommend Showcase Live as a place to see your favorite band or cover band. It has a great "up close and personal" atmosphere.
We had an awesome time! Music was fantastic....wish there had been a dance floor!
The band and the new singer sounded great - but the show was way too short! Venue at Patriot Place is fabulous, the food was just mediocre...we probably would not eat there again. But we went to see and enjoy the sounds of Roomful of Blues and we certainly did.........
Band is solid, Lead singer seems like a fun guy but just doesn't have the voice.
Roomful of Blues is an extremely talented band...with lots of energy and enthusiasm. It was only my second time seeing them but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The crowd was definitely appreciative and showed it with their applause and whistles. If only they had got up and danced, I think that would have made the band happy - "feel free to get up and dance if you want..." Phil said more than once. I would definitely recommend this show! Especially at Showcase Live - a great intimate setting for any live act!!
After listerned to Ana for a few years this was my first time seeing her live and I cannot wait to see her and her band again. They we excellent, I hope she contiunes with these guys in the future. I hope she plays BBs again in her next trip to NYC, We've seen RFB many times before in its many forms and still rock and swing. Their sound is timeless! BB Kings is still the best club in NYC for Music !!
Grew up with "Roomful". But we went to see Ana Popovic, saw her a year and a half ago on The Blues Cruise, she was great then and was superb last night. She should play more in the Tri-State area. Her CD's don't do her justice. You must see her live show. Again, nothing wrong with Roomful Of Blues...you always know that they can deliver! Great all around night. J&M , Winterton NY
Have you ever stumbled on a concert of someone you wish all your friends had seen too? That is the way it is with all my friends who attended her concert last night at the terrific Birchmere venue. It is no wonder she was 2009 Blues Music Award B.B. King Entertainer of the Year. Whether balladeer or blues-belter, she has range, power and conviction. It is a big plus that she uses her stage to support National Foster Care Month and speaks out as the ambassador for Foster Care Alumni of America. She remembers her roots and they inform her music.
Music just as great as we remembered it! Lead singer somewhat shrill.
Roonful of Blues was hot and swinging, Janiva Magness was icing on the cake.
Great show. I would definately go to see them again!
great music, NEEDED dancing space people need the option to MOVE to that kind of music
Band was great but they only played 1 1/2 hours! too short!
Great Blues and Jazz, as always a very strong sound!
The band was great as usual. The length of there performance way too short just over an hour and a half. Only one set We saw them at SHOWCASE LIVE in GILLETTE STADIUM and there's not a bad seat in the house but they do pack them in.Eight people at a table six would have been enough. All in All we had a great tme and would go again.
The only thing that we did not like, was that there was no dance floor. The music was great, and I know that the band must have been mad as well. We heard that there were complints from the last time they played there about not having a dance floor and one of the employees said that they were suppose to make an area. All in all, a great show!
