About

Rodrigo y Gabriela on Tour

Do you want flamenco with your heavy metal? Acid rock with your classical guitars? If so, Rodrigo y Gabriela are at your service. Known for a double-guitar attack that translates heavy-metal power to nylon-stringed classical guitars played with flamenco fury, Rodrigo y Gabriela are openhearted entertainers whose musical passion bridges classical and contemporary styles to create a world of its own. Alone on stage, they evoke the passion and precision of heavy metal — such as Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica — and, more recently, the expansive meditations of vintage Pink Floyd. The Mexico City–based guitar duo toured the United States and Europe in 2019 to support their eighth album, Mettavolution.

Rodrigo y Gabriela in Concert

Mexico City natives Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero have been perfecting their rapid-fire fusion of Latin harmonies and rhythms with rock structure since the 2006 release of Rodrigo y Gabriela, which included acoustic cover versions of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" and Metallica's "Orion." After meeting in art school as metal-loving teenagers, the couple forged their musical and emotional alliance while busking through Europe. During an eight-year residence in Galway, Gabriela learned how to transfer the driving bodhran-drum rhythms of Irish folk music to her classical guitar.

The instrumentalists continued to play cover songs and salute their influences on concept albums like 11:11 and 9 Dead Alive. Rodrigo y Gabriela's 2019 release, Mettavolution, was their first in five years. It consists of a handful of original tracks topped off by a 19-minute cover version of "Echoes," the sprawling, subtle and mysterious Pink Floyd epic that took up the entire second side of that band's 1971 album Meddle. The title track of Mettavolution, on the other hand, is a typically dynamic Rodrigo y Gabriela explosion of slaps, strums and rapid-fire runs. The title reflects the duo's belief in evolution through compassion, which here translates into nothing less than sheer rock nirvana.

Rodrigo y Gabriela - a phenomenal live show

by JLRoos on 9/20/09The Buell Theatre - Denver

Wow. Wow. I don't think I've ever seen a concert with more energy in both the performers and the crowd, and it was completely astounding how much sound two people can get out of two guitars. Virtuoso performances by both. Who knew so many different sounds could come out of an acoustic guitar. There really isn't a genre that you can use to adequately describe the music they play at their live concerts. I only have their second album, but it does not in anyway do their live performance justice.

    Rodrigo y Gabriela, Rocco Deluca

by luhsismom on 9/20/09The Buell Theatre - Denver

R y G were fabulous and played for a solid 1.5 hours...quite amazing when you see how much effort they put into their music. The crowd was so into the show; they were dancing and keeping time to the music. The house was packed and the show was one of the most memorable to date.

    Amazing!

by musakguru on 9/20/09The Buell Theatre - Denver

It was such an amazing show! They are truly great performers with a lot of talent. Gabriela is one of the greatest female musicians to have ever lived. Rocco Deluca's performance was heart felt and I respect his unique vocal style.

    RODRIGO Y GABRIELA were great!

by DenFan80220 on 9/20/09The Buell Theatre - Denver

Rodrigo y Gabriela put on a great show! They mixed the pieces well and the solo interludes showed off their expertise. It was amazing that two people with guitars could generate the kind of sound they generated.

    I was overwhelmed with joy!

by ThePsychologist on 9/20/09The Buell Theatre - Denver

As expected the best live guitar show one could imagine, I love these two, they touch my soul with such emotion I become lost in another world, they can lift anyone out of the darkness of depression. Their skill and gift is a blessing to all, for they prove words are not needed to express the human experience in its greatness. The only issue I had with the show was the location, the Buell is to stuck up for this show, I wanted to dance and jump and absorb the music with all my body, but the ushers kept that from happening on the scale it deserved, I would prefer they return next time to the Fillmore, because that show rocked and the fans were able to honor these two guitar gods in the way they deserved!

    Rodrigo y Gabriela!!

by JeffCO on 9/20/09The Buell Theatre - Denver

A very good show indeed. Rocco Deluca was very good as well. A talented musician that can definitely sing. Rodrigo y Gabriela were quite amazing. Both musicians had great energy. My first time seeing them. I would definitely see them again. This was my first time at the Buell Theatre and I was not too impressed. It was just too hot very stuffy and no ventilation. I was basically sweating just sitting in my seat. It was horrible! Don't know if that is the way it always is or if something was broken.

    Captivating

by eamccc on 9/20/09The Buell Theatre - Denver

If you don't already play the guitar, they will make you want to. Amazing acoustical guitar and percussion played from the soul. I bet the inventor of the guitar would love to see the way these two utilize the guitar to its fullest. Love them! The opening act was OK, not my style of music, but seemed like a decent musician. Dangerously close to putting some of the audience to sleep prior to what was a rockin' concert by R & G.

    Rodrigo Y Gabriela - Incredible!

by Rocknrollguy on 9/20/09The Buell Theatre - Denver

I've seen a lot of shows at a number of different places this year, and this concert was by far and away the best. Don't miss them! It's truly amazing the amount of energy these two guitar virtuosos have. No drums, no bass, no electric guitar, no flashy stage, but these two cranked out amazing music. FAR more energetic than many of the big name bands, many of which are on reunion tours. Even at a venue as large as the Buell Theater here in Denver, they made the place seem intimate. Highly recommend the show.

    R y G were great--Rocco was a burden

by Lodot on 9/20/09The Buell Theatre - Denver

This venue shows that Rodrigo and Gabriela are ready to move to wider audiences--audiences that throw devil's horns as well as those who simply want to listen, engage and applaud. The crowd at Temple Buell was an eclectic mix, but most seemed to adjust to the more structured setting of the auditorium. The energy remained high all night. The focus was the music and the incredible skill of the artists. Entire bands can't produce what those two can, using their hands like multiple instruments. (Don't you think Gabriela's hands must get sore and tired, even with callouses?) The opening act for their concerts in the U.S. is Rocco Deluca. If I didn' t know that he actually has a band and a reputation for talent I'd write this: Seems like a nice kid but needs to get some training and avoid sounding so pretentious with his obscure lyrics, unending riffs and screeching, off-key falsetto." But, I DO know he has a band and a reputation for talent, so I'll assume it was an off night. Overall a great experience for hearing Rodrigo and Gabriela. They could have handled the show nicely on their own--making the evening near perfect.

    Phenomenal

by JRyG on 9/20/09Terminal 5 - New York

RyG was possibly the best thing I've ever seen live. Gabriela is not even human, I don't think, she's just that good at rhythm and percussion. And Rodrigo has a keen ear for harmony.

    RodGab are a pure Genius.

by nirav13 on 9/20/09The Buell Theatre - Denver

It is just amazing how can two people can make such complex music out of two acoustic guitars. If you think they sound amazing on your ipod, you are in for a treat when you see them perform. Theeir audience was just perfect. And the quality of sound at the Buell theater was an icing on the cake. RodGab performing live is a must see and I will see them whenever they come to Denver.

    Rodrigo Y Gabriela - Fantastico

by JJules on 9/20/09The Buell Theatre - Denver

This was an amazing concert - they are both unbelievably talented. I especially liked the more acoustic pieces, of which there were few. I was disappointed that Gabriela felt compelled to use the f--- word several times - is that what she thinks Americans expect? Not me - it is so unnecessary!

    Rodrigo y Gabriela are riveting

by Lsweet on 9/20/09The Buell Theatre - Denver

I have been to more than my share of concerts in the past 40 years, but I have never been to a concert of such remarkable talent and soul reaching depth. Gabriela has an astounding ability to add percussion to her precision guitar style, and Rodrigo brings the music together. I left the concert in awe of their extraordinary performance.

    RyG

by Atomiclis on 9/20/09The Buell Theatre - Denver

I love Rodrigo Y Gabriela music from their albums, but to watch it in person was an amazing experience! They are creative high energy performers and stayed on stage for 2 hours! Rocco Deluca was ok. I felt the mike was turned up too loud. When someone asked who he was, he said James Bond? I personally didn't see (or remember) there was an opener when I bought my tickets so it would have been nice if he actually answered the question for those of us that didn't know! Overall, an amazing show!

    Rodrigo y Gabriela

by ELDC on 9/20/09The Buell Theatre - Denver

Very good show. More subdued than at the Fillmore last year, but much more comfortable seating. The only bad thing was that they ran you of women's t-shirts.

    One Trick Pony?

by Toniendo on 9/20/09The Buell Theatre - Denver

Been waiting quite a while to see this duo. Thought "up close" they'd really wow me. They both are very talented, especially Gabriela and her strumming technique. However... Every song essentially is "the same". While I love that strumming technique, it becomes monotonous when it's the background on every song. And the sound guys... please. They've overamplified the "thump" when she slaps the top of the guitar and it literally pounds the listeners- unpleasantly. When they slowed it down a little, whoa, things got nice. A new theme, without the frenetic thump and strum... and, unfortunately, even those quieter moments ultimately where morphed more and more and more- into a pounding climax, again, sounding much the same as every other song. Gotta hand it to 'em... the audience loved it. I won't be seeing them again.

    Very exciting

by ctf103 on 9/20/09The Buell Theatre - Denver

I thought that RODRIGO Y GABRIELA, was a very good concert performance that I will remember for a long time. They are masters of the guitar and it is was very fun to watch. Lots of energy. I did not like the opening act and almost left the concert but luckily my date told me to wait. I am glad I did. Thank you for the show.
