  • Amazing performance!

by Ken on 11/29/23Piedmont Hall - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

I had the privilege of seeing John Denver in a live concert twice. Rick Schuler made me believe I was seeing John live for a third time. Rick gave an incredible performance and he reminded me of why I love John's music so much. He is a great talent and I hope he comes back to North Carolina soon.

  • So-So

Theater was mostly empty. Guess not a big draw. Most of the folks, myself included, were of the gray-haired variety. We grew up listening to John Denver songs and it brought back nice memories. Could have used less talking and "far outs"and more just sticking just to the music and singing. That's what we were there to hear.

  • Walk down memory lane

The Rocky Mountain Christmas Experience was a blend of holiday songs, originals and John Denver songs. I grew up listening to Denver on an 8 track, vinyl, cassette and digital. Be it family, friends, church, Girl Scouts, or 4-H over the years, everyone knew a John Denver song or 2. The venue was perfect for an intimate show/conversation with Rick. I took my older teens because they both learned to play the guitar with his songs. We laughed, sang and I shed a few tears. It’s hard to find live performances that a family can afford so this was a special affordable treat for us. Thank you Rick for keeping John Denver’s music alive while also putting your own stories. This momma treasured a bonus memory with my kids as they leave the nest. I did have a moment of panic when he walked off the stage without singing Country Roads, but he came back for an encore and sang a few more classics.

  • Trip down memory lane

Rick put on a wonderful show. Not only does he look, sing, and play like John Denver, but his tribute to John's music and legacy is warm and spot on. He connected with the audience, encouraged us to sing along, and gave us a wonderful trip down memory lane.

  • Fair enough

by Mark on 11/28/23Piedmont Hall - GreensboroRating: 4 out of 5

My wife and I attended the show. The venue was really intimate. I felt badly that the show had not sold more seats as it was only half full. The show was fair enough, we enjoyed singing along as did many others. Rick was fun.

I love John Denver and it was good to hear his songs sung live, and to be with other John Denver fans. I think Rick Schuler is an amazing person. I just wish he would sing in his own voice and not try to sound like John, because it doesn’t work.

  • Great show! We hope he comes back👏👏🥇🥇

Great show, comfortable venue, almost 2 hours of songs and stories. John Denver songs interspersed with Christmas songs…hard to beat that combination 🎶🎵🎉👏👏😊😊

  • Solid Performance, but a Big But!

by ACSTarHeel on 11/28/23Piedmont Hall - GreensboroRating: 3 out of 5

Was a solid performance. There were a few breaks in remembering the words to songs and an occasional off-key note of singer's voice. His banter was good, but too much. Mor songs, less talk. Would've preferred to hear more of John Denver's songs and some that were not hits perhaps and not written by him -- e.g. Paradise, Please Daddy Don't Get Drunk this Christmas (from a JD Christmas album), Fire and Rain. The WORST gaff was when he got into "not being a Yankee"and being on the right side of the Civil War (meaning the Confederacy). "We almost won didn't we?"That whole thing needs to be put in the dust bin of his act. Just as the Lost Cause mythology/propaganda being allowed as history is to the ash bin of history of the US. No one should feel that the treasonous folks who fought to preserve slavery were on the right side of anything.
