Seen Rick Schuler 3 times now ... Totally Enjoyable Every Time!!! Will see him again when he comes to Indy!!! Love his personality ... Love his show!!!

  • Very Enjoyable

by Jkite on 12/10/23The Lyric Theatre - BirminghamRating: 5 out of 5

I read reviews and really didn't know what expect. Some loved it, some didn't. I was very pleasantly surprised. Rick was very personable. Great audience participation with numerous singalongs. Good mix of Christmas songs and classic John Denver tunes, which he performed very capably. If you're very knowledgeable musically, you might be critical. There were flubs. But for me, it didn't detract from the overall enjoyable experience. The venue was beautiful. I'll definitely go again if Mr. Schuler returns next year!

  • Rocky Mtn experience was 3 stars

by BrnchprtNan on 12/10/23The Lyric Theatre - BirminghamRating: 3 out of 5

Performance had a lot of good music, but many of the songs were rushed and performed differently than John Denver sung them. Performer seemed to have issues with his guitar and sound engineering. The beginning of the concert had uncomfortably corny moments. Would have loved to have heard more of John Denver’s Christmas music from various Christmas specials, including Muppet Christmas, etc.

  • Memories and magical moments

I am not sure what I expected when I bought the tickets for Rocky Mountain High Experience. I grew up listening to John Denver, but I hadn’t thought about him or his songs in quite awhile. But Ricky reminded me. He not only brought John’s music to life again, but he brought magic to the crowd. The whole theater sang along and smiled along and laughed along. I sat between my parents and watched each sing and dance. It was a fun and memorable experience.

  • The whole place was singing along!

by Mike on 12/10/23The Lyric Theatre - BirminghamRating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I, along with another couple, had a delightful, fun melodious evening with “John Denver”! All of John’s hits and Christmas classics in the beautiful Lyric Theater made for a connecting, nostalgic sing-a-long. Rick Schuler looked and sounded like John Denver, as well as, having a good rapport with the audience! We would definitely recommend!

I was never able to see John Denver live but this took me back in time. Great show.

Only one way it could have been better, if John Denver himself had been the artist. Loved hearing and enjoying the music again!

Enjoyed the show overall. Music was well done and a good selection of John Denver's music done with some good stories.

  • Excellent Experience

    by Joe T on 12/6/23Adler Theatre - DavenportRating: 5 out of 5

He was awesome, and his real life experiences, his knowledge of John Denver, and his stories were great. We will hear him every time he comes, and he is a good Christian man.

  • Brought back good memories

I really enjoyed A Rocky Mountain High Experience: A John Denver Christmas. When Rick Schuler walks on to the stage you swear it’s John Denver. I went to two John Denver concerts years ago and Rick captures many of his mannerisms and his endearing laugh. His voice is very similar but he tended to sing his songs at a slower pace but it was the closest thing to a real John Denver concert you could ask for. Highly recommend him.

  • JUST OK

by TJB on 12/5/23Ames Center - BurnsvilleRating: 3 out of 5

I’m glad I got these tickets at a significant discount. I thought Rick was personable and a decent story teller, but his singing voice didn’t sound as much like John Denver as the marketing promised.

  • Not for us

    by SW1 on 12/4/23Ames Center - BurnsvilleRating: 1 out of 5

Was hoping for a better quality performance and stage set. We weren't impressed and are glad we purchased discounted tickets. We left after the first set.

  • sorry I missed it

Great expectations when I purchased a ticket. Then had a really bad cold and went to bed

  • Think it through next time

    by insegrevious1 on 12/3/23Ames Center - BurnsvilleRating: 3 out of 5

First section was okay -- good vocals, nice selection of music, not quite enough personal background to give the show some needed context, but enjoyable nonetheless. Second section (after the intermission) was really poor -- no focus for the content, no real investment in the music, felt like he didn't have enough material to fill out the set. Reminded me how good John Denver's lyrics were. But left me wanting so much more. Needs a producer and a writer, I think (I was a writer before retiring years ago, so I'm speaking from expertise), and would benefit from a local female vocalist to liven up songs like the Olivia Newton John classic Fly Away. Odd suggestion: Stop apologizing for what you're not. John Denver is definitely an underappreciated talent, and there's nothing wrong with being much more assertive in singing his songs in a confident voice. His music stands up much better over time than I think most people would assume. Needs to be heard, especially today, when environmental issues are finally coming into focus.

  • Awesome can’t wait to see it again

A nostalgic night of great Denver music I sang along with every song it brought me back to time in my life when music was music

  • Just Okay

by PS on 12/3/23Ames Center - BurnsvilleRating: 3 out of 5

It was okay the second half was better than the first. It was just okay that we went a group of 6. I don't think I would like to see it again. Very little Christmas that was in the performance.

Awesome venue and awesome John Denver cover person. Would see again

  • Interesting Evening

by FlamingoFan56 on 12/3/23Shelton Auditorium at Butler Arts Center - IndianapolisRating: 4 out of 5

Though we were prepared for a combination of holiday songs and John Denver songs, the original pieces were unexpected. The ratio of music to stories was a bit off and as we all stated afterwards, it was tough to sing along. These songs were integral to our growing up and having the pace change was a bit off putting. But, as we will never again enjoy a John Denver live performance this was the best we could hope for. (The venue needs some definite TLC! Seats around us were falling apart and folks nearly falling out! Also, not very good signage from parking lots to the venue doors)

  • an intimate and fabulous show

Rick Schuler was very engaging with the audience. When looking up to him on the stage, ever so often it is like seeing John Denver in fiont of you. He has mastered the mannerisms and plays a wide variety of John's catalog. Great venue for the show.
