Think it through next time
by insegrevious1 on 12/3/23Ames Center - BurnsvilleRating: 3 out of 5First section was okay -- good vocals, nice selection of music, not quite enough personal background to give the show some needed context, but enjoyable nonetheless. Second section (after the intermission) was really poor -- no focus for the content, no real investment in the music, felt like he didn't have enough material to fill out the set. Reminded me how good John Denver's lyrics were. But left me wanting so much more. Needs a producer and a writer, I think (I was a writer before retiring years ago, so I'm speaking from expertise), and would benefit from a local female vocalist to liven up songs like the Olivia Newton John classic Fly Away. Odd suggestion: Stop apologizing for what you're not. John Denver is definitely an underappreciated talent, and there's nothing wrong with being much more assertive in singing his songs in a confident voice. His music stands up much better over time than I think most people would assume. Needs to be heard, especially today, when environmental issues are finally coming into focus.
