Another wonderful evening hosted by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Benefit for the award winning and worthwhile Education Programs supported by the Rock Hall. Have been a member for many years and attend this one every year. The Rock Hall invites all members and the public to participate. Tickets were $15 for the seats off the floor. Tables on the floor are for the corporate sponsors and those that can afford thousands of dollars per seat. There is also a live auction with amazing once in a lifetime items. The good news is the money goes to the education programs. Spoke with Terry Stewart after the show and they raised well over $200,000. Wow! Very cool.
The stars were out for this. Terry Sylvester of the Hollies sang "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" and was amazing. "Long Cool Woman in a black dress" got the crowd rocking. Sheila E. was full of spunk and energy. Richie Furay of Buffalo Springfield surprised us with "Kind Woman". Gene Chandler was his royal self with "Duke of Earl" complete with top hat, cape, and walking stick. Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad still has that powerful voice and did "The Locomotion", "Some Kind of Wonderful". Puts singers half his age to shame. But MC Hammer and his dancers totally stole the show. Yes he did "Too Legit to Quit", and of course "Can't Touch This". Yeah, most of the folks on the floor were on the stage dancing. Last but not least was Tommy James and the Shondells. Made my dreams come true. "Crystal Blue Persuasion", "Crimson and Clover", "Dragging the Line", and closed the show with "Mony, Mony". Good time had by all. The Rock Hall always puts on a class act with the best of the best.
