My wife and I went to see Robin Trower in Cleveland. The show was at the Rocksino. It is a great place for a show:
Not too big, not too small. The acoustics are good unless the act is into volume.
Regardless, Robin Trower was in top form. His playing was sharp, crisp, spot on. His bassist and primary singer is good. TrowEric himself sings quite a bit, more of his newer stuff, if this show is a measuring stick. The show was great, the band well composed and in a groove. The drummer is good too, with some jazz licks seemingly interspersed with his regular drumming tasks.
Over all, seeing Trower was a bucket list item for me, which unlike the Allman Brothers Band, I managed to be in the right place to scratch from my list.
Robin Trower is a legacy act, a historic talent and a supreme exemplar of Blues Inspired British guitar work. See him if you get the chance. He's up there in years, and cutting as sharp a path as he can right now, could be gone in a couple years. You never know about these things.
One of my favorite shows, ever. Don't miss the chance to catch up with Robin Trower. You'll be glad you did.
