Roberto Carlos Live in Concert

Brazilian pop-rock trailblazer Roberto Carlos is known to many as "the King of Latin Music." With a career spanning more than half a century, Carlos has sold more than 140 million albums globally and is considered one of the most influential pop artists in Brazil and the world. With the help of co-writer and frequent collaborator Erasmo Carlos, Roberto Carlos has written more than three dozen Top 10-charting singles.

Born to a lower middle-class family in 1941, Carlos began playing the guitar and piano as a child. At just 9 years old, he performed for the first time at a children's show broadcast by Rádio Cachoeiro, where he won first prize and became a regular performer.

As a teenager, Carlos moved to Rio de Janeiro and formed a band originally called the Snacks, which was later renamed the Sputniks. In the late '50s, Carlos went solo and performed bossa nova in the style of Brazilian singer João Gilberto. When his first full-length album, 1961's Louco Por Você (Crazy for You), failed to achieve commercial success, Carlos switched back to rock music.

As a pop/rock musician, Carlos drew influence from then-popular American and British acts such as Little Richard, Bill Haley, Elvis Presley, and The Beatles. He eventually became the face of "Jovem Guarda" (Young Guard), which started as a TV show hosted by Carlos but eventually became a catchphrase for a Brazilian musical movement influenced by the Western midcentury rock and roll wave. Carlos' 1964 album, É Proibido Fumar, especially exemplified this upbeat sound and style, also known in Brazil as iê-iê-iê ("yeah-yeah-yeah").

In the late '60s, Carlos began to pivot his artistry to specialize more in love songs. Along with close collaborator Erasmo Carlos, Roberto Carlos penned now-famous hits such as "Detalhes," "Sua Estupidez," "Jesus Cristo," and "Debaixo dos Caracóis dos Seus Cabelos," earning him Grammy accolades and top chart placements in Latin America. Carlos' love songs became especially popular in neighboring Argentina, and by the '70s, he had become the best-selling Brazilian musician in history.

In 1988, Carlos won a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Performance, plus several Latin Grammys in the early 2000s. In 2015, the Latin Recording Academy honored him with the prestigious Person of the Year award. In 2009, Carlos celebrated his 50th anniversary as a performer, touring through North and South America to honor the achievement alongside fans. More recently, Carlos released his 2018 Spanish-language album Amor Sin Límite, which featured duets with Jennifer Lopez ("Llegaste") and Alejandro Sanz ("Esa Mujer").

I really enjoyed the concert. I took my parents to go see him live in concert and they really enjoyed it as well. It was such an amazing and beautiful experience. I'm definitely going to another concert of his. Hopefully he comes back soon.

Roberto Carlos sings ALL the hits he has been known for. The orchestra is excellent! The performance also has colorful lighting effects. And at the end, he distributes dozens of roses! Great concert…not to be missed!

  • Everything we expected, and more

It was a lifetime aspiration of mine to see one of my favorite performers live, Roberto Carlos. I went with my wife, and it was a perfect night! We were a little concerned that my wife had a little problem walking because of a sprained ligament a couple of days before, but we made it to the concert anyway. The venue staff were more than gracious with us; they helped all the way until we found our seats and; moreover, upgraded our original seats so that my wife and I were more comfortable and did not have to walk up or down the stairs. The concert itself, other than the late start, was beautiful and all that we had expected from Roberto Carlos. We even danced to some of the songs he sang, on the balcony we were assigned! In the end, it turned out to be a perfect night for us! Thank you Roberto Carlos, you are the greatest!

I am Brazilian and have always loved Roberto Carlos. I have gone to a couple of his concerts and was really not thrilled with the last one I attended about 7 years ago. Mostly because he speaks and sings in Spanish about 90% of the time. But, I decided to go one more time since he is in his eighties. I am so happy I went. He was amazing singing his songs but, more importantly, he spoke and sang in Portuguese at least 50% of the time. He was wonderful! It was a great night!

It’s not my first concert to watch Roberto Carlos. Even at Agganis Arena, before has been way better organized then this last one… this one by far has been the worse of them for sure. The place was poorly organized. The sound “acoustic” was not good. Our tickets were pricey, since we chose to seat at the front… and planning to enjoy our moment at the event with my family and friends, make good memories, enjoy one of the best and popular shows to the South American and Latino public. And instead, what we had was, a bunch of people at the hallway, dancing, taking pictures, etc… had even a lady opening her blouse in the hallway, and nothing happen, nobody ask her to take Leave the place or at least to take a seat. I honestly don’t care if the organizers allow this kind of posture at the event. However, I don’t believe it should be acceptable, since I’m a paying customer, who paid to watch a different type of show… without have my view blocked. Without people taking her clothes off in front of my wife and mother and friends… was unnecessary and disrespectful. We are Extremely disappointed and felt uncomfortable and disrespected by this type of attitude accepted by the organizers and the people who was supposed to be taking action and avoiding this kind of thing to happen. So vulgar for the occasion. We pay for a musical show, and not a “strippers joint”. Personally, I believe at least I should have my money back. Also, just for the record, my family and I, will not be planning to be attending any event at the Agganis Arena at anytime soon. Extremely disorganized. And to watch another event with Roberto Carlos, we also will re-evaluate that too, because if his team of organizer allow this type of public, we definitely don’t want to be part of it. Was a shame to his name and the long history that he had and have in events, specially in Boston. Sincerely,
