About

Robert Plant, frontman of legendary psychedelic rockers Led Zeppelin, continues to build the band's legacy with his impressive career as a solo artist. In over 30 shows on his 2013 tour, he electrified crowds with the sheer power and extraordinary range of his voice, making every song, from classic Led Zeppelin tunes to traditional blues standards, seem like they were written just for him. With his band, The Sensational Space Shifters, Plant tears up the concert stage, at times singing like a scream and at other times sounding like a dream. A ticket to one of his concerts is like an invitation into his home -- intimate and extraordinary at the same time.

As the lead singer of Led Zeppelin, one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time, Plant’s place in music history is already guaranteed. His band, Led Zeppelin, churned out No. 1 albums Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin III, Led Zeppelin IV, Houses of the Holy and Physical Graffiti, and the group has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As a solo artist, his album The Principle of Moments went platinum, while Now and Zen went triple platinum, selling over three million copies. Plant is a singer who is always at the top of his game. He is an innovator, a lover of music and someone who stands at the intersection where rock and roll, roots music and the blues come together. They meet right where he stands onstage, and as an incredible performer, he combines them into the uniquely musical experience he shares with audiences every day.

  • A magical evening with the Band of Joy!

    by Arkie49 on 7/14/10Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the 3 best concerts I have ever attended! The level of musicianship of the members of the Band of Joy was wonderful. Robert Plant retains the quintessential male voice of Rock and Roll. Plus, what the North Mississippi All-Stars can blast out as a band of 2 members is remarkable. Great, great show and it was very good to see a wide mix of ages from teens to geezers all in love with the music.

  • DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW!!!!!!!!!!

by alexisl on 7/14/10Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

Saw Robert and the Band of Joy last night on the first night of the tour -- I have no accolades strong enough to say just how fabulous this show is!! I have been a Plant fan since Zep days, and have seen Robert at least six times in various groups. He is truly amazing, gifted and funny. The Band of Joy is wonderful! Patty Griffin, who sings with Robert, has an astounding voice. If this show comes anywhere near you, run don't walk to get tickets. You will not be sorry!!!

  • Plant was awesome!

I saw Led Zepplin in 1973 and Robert Plant's voice still has the range. Incredible. The crowd was really excited and showed their appreciation on every song. It shows what great fans we have in Memphis and I'm sure Robert Plant and his band of Joy won't forget that. Great new songs mixed with some of the old stuff. For any one who chose not to go you missed out on a living legend you may never get to see again.

  • Plant can still deliver

by markable on 7/14/10Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 4 out of 5

What a privilege. First show by a newly formed group featuring such large talent. Robert Plant's voice is sooo strong. His stage presence is dominating and undimimished. Sweet harmonies (still jelling). Haunting guitar sound complementing reworked traditional renditions in a modern almost rockabilly-meets roots sound was very entertaining (whew!). Will buy this CD.

  • Unbelievable talent... Plant still has it!

by Jenniliz on 7/14/10Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

I really enjoyed seeing Robert Plant at the Orpheum. He still brings so much energy and passion into his work. He has a good stage personality... very likeable. His band was comprised of super precise musicianship. He mixed a few if the old Led Zep tracks along with new material. He seemed to be really enjoying himself the whole time. It was a throughly enjoyable concert. I hope he will cone back in a few years for another round!

  • Robert Plant was awesome!

At 61 Robert Plant can still rock with the best of them!! It was an amazing night at the Orpheum Theater in Memphis, Tennessee where Plant opened his Band of Joy Tour. I feel honored that he thought of Memphis first!!! Like he said during the show..."there are a lot of firsts tonight." First night of tour; the use of his first band's name (Band of Joy); new label,(Band of Joy); first time drink between sets...uhmmm. The play list was extensive–lots of Led for the old set, Now and Zen, Raising Sand, new stuff from his upcoming Band of Joy release. It was great pairing with Patti Griffen adding her vocals. And legendary singer/songwriter, Buddy Miller on the guitar working the rifts! The whole band was absolutely great - talented musicians, all of them. Robert Plant still has it all–vocals, moves, music–and a mystical power that will always set him apart. I hope he keeps the solo act going for a long time. It is some of his best stuff!

Very good show. The majority of the show emphasizes the new material, but he included some of his earlier solo material and a few Led Zep songs. Sound quality was outstanding, but it was at the Orpheum Theater so I would expect no less.

Collaboration was unbelievable. Good mix of music styles. Very entertaining performance. Plant has such charisma on stage! AND, Patty brings so much to the show!

  • Sound

by Complicated on 7/14/10Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 3 out of 5

I went to see him because he is/was 25% of Led Zeppelin, and my son is playing thier songs, and wanted to go. I did not expect a lot of LZ songs, and thought it would be close to what it turned out to be. He is moving in a new direction, kinda rockabilly I guess they call it. His four LZ tunes played were a good jump in the new avenue he is walking now. Enjoyed Misty Mountina Hop, and Rock & Roll. My problem was with the sound. It was bad, and that is not Plant's; or the musician's fault. I have been going to concerts for 40 years and have seen some great acts, but they are only as good as their sound guys. Maybe the sound was great on the main floor, but not upstairs. I COULD NOT HEAR THE DRUMS, and could barely hear the steel guitar or acoustic guitars. The damn Bass and Electric smoothered the other guys. Vocals were too loud but they had to overcome the sound guys version, of the bass and electric. Just too freakin loud to even hear a equal mix. And he had good muscians who deserved to be included. Maybe it was where I was sitting; but the mix was one of the worse I have ever heard. I was in the Mezzanie, extreme right side. All that said, Plant himself was very good. A very gracious, conversationalist, who appeared to appreciate the people and recognition. So don't take these remarks of the sound, as a slam on Plant. If you do, you are misguided.

  • Robert Plant was spectacular

  • Good, but not Great

A little too much country and not enough rock and roll.

  • Robert Plant + Buddy Miller = Americana Blues

by toyzuma on 7/14/10Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

Another excellent Robert Plant show. Packed house of enthusiastic fans. Robert Plant and The Band of Joy let it all hang out. Robert mixed the set well with something to please everyone, he performed songs from all phases of his catalog, Songs from his record with Alison Krauss, solo stuff and several songs from the forthcoming Band of Joy album. He did not forget to throw in about 4 Zeppelin songs. He closed the night with "Thank You" and the final song was "Rock and Roll". This was the fist stop on the tour and the band was excellent. Patty Griffin laid down some fine vocal work that complimented Robert's voice well. Guitarist Buddy Miller from Nashville was OFF THE HOOK! If you don't have any Buddy Miller records, GET EM NOW. If you have anopportunity to go see Robert Plant and The Band of Joy. DO IT! You'll be glad you did!

  • Robert Plant and the Band of Joy - Excellent!

    by Missyw57 on 7/14/10Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

North MS Allstars opened and that set it - they were at their peak. How can someone play the piano and drums at the same time? And I saw it! Robert Plant and the Band of Joy came out and topped even them. Well worth driving 180 miles on a Tuesday night. Try to see them. Cant wait for the CD coming out in Sept.

  • Robert Plant: Still Has It

    by Allen456 on 7/14/10Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

Robert Plant was awesome last night in Memphis. He did mostly his own music. He seemed to enjoy himself and his band (Band of Joy), throughout the set, doing new songs from his album to be issued this fall, and several from his most recent album with Allison Krause. But he pulled a few ZEP songs out of his bag, including: o Thank You (If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you. If the mountains crumbled into then sea, there would still be you and me.) o Rock N' Roll (been a long time since I rock and rolled) o Gallows Pole (Hangman, Hangman, hold it a little while. I think I see my friends coming, riding a many mile) He doesn't push his voice like he used to when he was young, but he hit a few notes last night that reminded you of the AWESOME voice he used to have and how he could cut right through you with it.

  • Another Great Plant Performance

    by midas001 on 7/14/10Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

What a fantastic experience!! This is my 7th time seeing him perform and it gets better every time! The first time on 4/10/77 with Zeppelin (the last show they ever performed in Chicago). The mix of Zep, old, and new songs was masterful. The Zep songs were performed with the respect they deserve. What a great opportunity to see him start his tour in such a small venue. His voice and music never ages and his songs are so well written that they can be performed in almost any genre. The man is a musical genius and is one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time. His music and performances have made my life better and are a bright light in what are currently some dark times. I am going to make sure I go see the North Mississippi All Stars the next chance I get. A two man band? Wow, those guys were great!! Do not miss this show when it comes to your town!!!

  • Robert Plant is still the man!!

    by Twodog1 on 7/14/10Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

His voice is as good as ever and his new music and The Band of Joy is very good. Add all that up plus some Zep tunes and it was one of the best shows I've seen in years. You can tell he loves the new music which is a combination of blues, rock, and folk.
