    2nd Time Around

    by TexanInDC88 on 1/13/16Birchmere - Alexandria

First time I saw Glasper and the Trio at Blue Note Jazz Club in NYC. It was more than I imagined. Couldn't pass up the chance to see Glasper and the Experiment in DC. Needless to say everything about the concert surpassed my expectations and the Birchmere venue has become a favorite of mine in the DMV. Will return!

    Awesome Show

by DanaLH on 12/23/15Birchmere - Alexandria

This was my first time seeing the Robert Glasper Experiment and I am glad I did. I rarely want to see a band twice, but this is certainly one I would see again. I purchased the two CD's that were available and love them both. Glasper is an amazing talent and very funny. He clearly has a good rapport with his band that adds to the whole experience. I would highly recommend his show to all music lovers. Robert invited concert goers to an after party that I also attended. The lead singer DJ'd at the party which was awesome. It was great to hear the music he appreciates. It added to the experience. It was an incredible night.

    Vocal Performance Disappointing

by Inspireunity on 12/10/14Birchmere - Alexandria

Musicians talent are wonderful however I was disappointed that there was not a real vocalist available to sing the songs. Not that I expected the vocalist that are on his album to ding the songs. I just didn't appreciate that all of the songs sound like they are computerized. Like The song computer love from the 80's. That would be fine if thats the sound you listen to on the cd. However that is not the case. Goapele gave a much better performance and her ticket cost $20 less.

    Grown Folks Music

    by JBeezy76 on 12/10/14Birchmere - Alexandria

I will start this off by saying that I love Hip Hop and always will and seeing Robert Glasper is nothing like seeing someone Common or Little Brother (why do all of the dope groups split???). However, if you are at the point in your life where you can appreciate true artistry and enjoy Jazz, R&B and Hip Hop then you will love seeing the Experiment perform live. Everyone in the Experiment is a master at their respective instrument and listening to them each do their solos is nothing short of amazing. On top of that, Robert Glasper is a fool! I told my wife that I would love to see him and Phonte on the same stage together because I'd probably laugh as hard as I was vibin' to the music. I digress. Go see them in concert!

    Disappointed

by cozydeep on 12/10/14Birchmere - Alexandria

Robert Glasper is one of my favorite artists. I was looking forward to this show for months. But I was disappointed with the outcome. His wingman Casey Benjamin did most of the vocals from his latest 2 albums. That would not have been a problem if he had not used a computerized vocal machine the entire time. The first two sets were ok, but I couldn't take it any more when he did Common's "Like Water for Chocolate" with the computerized vocals. Background vocalists would have been a wiser option and a lot more entertaining. Also I was disappointed with the meal that night. I ordered shrimp and grits and there were only five shrimp in a huge bowl of cheesy grits. There were enough grits in that bowl to feed 3 or 4 people. The overall experience was lackluster. My favorite artist and my favorite meal combined made for a disappointing experience.

    Excellent!!!!

by BrownieCake on 12/10/14Birchmere - Alexandria

Just what the doctor ordered. Excellent energy, musicianship, and creativity. I can't wait to see what else this young man bring to the jazz (and music as a whole) world.

You will groove to the beat

by Elantern on 12/10/14Birchmere - Alexandria

Awesome show! I didn't know what to expect because I never heard R Glasper live. I wasnt totally disappointed because I have music background and can appreciate the sound of great music. The disappointment sat in when I realize there wouldnt be any artist performing. If you are expecting a artist to perform at this "experient" lol this might not be for you. But I Will definitely see Mr Glasper again.

Off tha chain and fresh out tha frame!!

by Allllthatjazz on 11/10/13Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

RGE YEILDED A PHENOMINAL PERFORMANCE..{clears throat} or..EXPERIENCE RATHER.. that will not be soon forgotten. It was a relief to finally see the experiment live and di-DAMN-rect.. I dropped the ball some time ago by not making it out to the experiment when it was in Durham, NC.. Since I was passing through ATL around the time of the experiment I just coordinated things so that I could recover from missing out initially... Facilitating that resolve only awakened a desire to experience the experiment as much as possible moving forward!! Great show!! Great performance!! Great jazz!! Great art!!!

This was my wife and I first "real" jazz concert and I would have to say we are hooked. Robert and the rest of the group rocked the house!

    RG Live Is Great!

    by IndieMusicLover2009 on 11/9/13Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

I enjoyed the Robert Glasper Experiment live. The music was great and the instrumental solos were awesome. One thing I didn't really like was the fact that the frontman used the voice distortion a little too much. I loved the fact that the group had guest artists come and sing a couple of songs. Algebra Blessett and Anthony David were phenomenal! I wish I could have heard more of their vocals. I think RGE needs to provide more vocals (maybe by hiring local talent to sing the vocal parts of his songs off the Black Radio albums) so that the voice distortion is not overkill. Toward the end, it got to be too much. Overall, I enjoyed the show and I would see RGE again live.

Robert Glasper is a musical revolutionary!

by DeonW on 11/9/13Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

The only reason I gave his concert four stars instead of five is because I was hoping to see more special guests from Black Radio 2 perform with him. Other than that it was an awesome show!

    Jam Session

    by BLove4Eva on 11/9/13Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

The musicianship was awesome, especially the drummer! However, the absence of live vocals was the missing piece to bring the experience together. The vocals was substituted with one of the band members using a vocal box for all of the sets, except when Algebra, a local artist and not even featured on any of his albums, to perform "Calls" by Jill Scott. Algebra is talented, but anyone who lives in Atlanta can hear her. She was definitely better than any voice box however. To listen to vocals, for every song, through a voice box, is absolutely an annoyance, and lacks vocal skill and talent. Overall, Robert Glasper is a talented pianist/keyboardist and has great ear for music. However, what creates the Robert Glasper Experiment, is the band (Experiment) and the featured artists on every song of the Black Radio compilation. There is no Robert Glasper without the featured artists.
