The Robert Cray Band in Concert
When it comes to live performance, The Robert Cray Band like to get right down to business. Though they're led by one of the most distinctive blues guitar stylists of his generation, and the rest of the band bears a similar amount of instrumental authority, they don't like to showboat. Flashy licks are simply not what Cray and company are all about.
Instead, they cut right through to the emotional core of every tune — whether they're playing the classics that put Cray on the map, like "Right Next Door" and "Smoking Gun," or killing it on covers of tunes by the likes of Bill Withers, Bobby "Blue" Bland, or The Mississippi Sheiks. Cray and his cohorts use their mighty musical prowess in the service of the song. Sure, you'll hear plenty of fluid guitar solos, but at a Robert Cray show you'll never hear a single unnecessary note — in other words, everything he and his band play on stage really matters.
The Robert Cray Band Background
Robert Cray did more for the blues in the 1980s than anybody other than Stevie Ray Vaughan. He started out small with a string of early-'80s indie albums, but by the middle of the decade the singer/guitarist's blend of blues, soul, and rock 'n' roll influences made its way to the mainstream with a major-label deal that introduced the world to the game-changing Strong Persuader LP.
Between his supple grooves, soulful vocals, storytelling songs, and stinging guitar solos, Cray emerged as the blues hero the '80s didn't even know they were waiting for until he came along. Over time, Cray's sound has become simultaneously deeper and more expansive. His reputation has grown to the point that he's an esteemed elder statesman of modern blues, a winner of multiple Grammy awards, and an artist as venerated today as any of his heroes were when he was growing up and learning his licks.

John Hiatt is a true musician and a great entertainer. Robert Cray was great as well.
Great venue. Small so you felt you were close enough to see the band. Loved the dock where you could sit and enjoy the view and excellent drinks.
John Hiatt and Robert Cray equally under appreciated talents!
We had never seen Robert Cray in concert and wow did he put on a great show. And then John Hiatt & Co. Followed with an unbelievable performance. Just one of them would've been super but together Wow!
Ya gotta be there..... Guitarist at his finest . I love him live like Joe Bonamassa... The real deal baby!!!! Awesome!!!
John Hiatt was great! His lead guitar player was awesome!!. Hiatt had the audience's attention and participation. I would love to see him again. Robert Cray didn't disappoint either. He showed why he is one of the best blues guys around. Didn't do" Smoking Gun "song-I was looking forward to that.
It was a wonderful and a relaxing evening at the concert. Robert Cray and john Hiatt are two classic performers. It was a pleasure to be in such a terrific venue where you felt comfortable and at a concert where the performers truly were having a great time, also.
Nice day and great show. Go see them live. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the best concerts I've seen in years for musicianship, showmanship an all round high energy show! Been following these guys for years but never saw a live show I was glad I finally did. Highly recommend you do too!
Robert Cray opened, and was simply amazing. The legacy of his band, and of his partnering with other artists such as the talents of Albert Collins and Johnny Copeland was on display, awesome and abundant. John Hiatt brought Nashville and Memphis with him, and his talents are prolific.
Great show overall with Robert Cray in fine voice as support! Only complaint was how short each set was - Hiatt barely played past the hour mark. Very disappointing as he was in fine form, and really looked like he was enjoying being there!
Both performers are excellent. We were lucky enough to be close to the front. Sometimes a bit too loud and could not discern the words to songs. Robert Cray didn't play some of my brother's favorite songs.
Robert Cray opened the show but I enjoyed his unique singing style and bluesy rocking more than John Hiatt. Both were very good, but go hear Robert Cray anytime you can. Smooth voice, sly lyrics, gritty guitar, competent band. Nice evening.
Young Bob still has it! His performance was spot on.
Great new music. As always, a show full of THE BEST blues voice out there. The bass player is entertaining. You can tell he loves what he does. Even in bare feet.
The show was great but it was very short. Robert Cray played well and I enjoyed the show. I paid for VIP tickets and got there somewhat early but the Meet and Greet was already over according to the concert hall. The band played for 1 hour and 20 minutes and then came back for a 2 song encore and it was over. It was not worth the $125/ticket that I paid. It was the shortest concert I have ever been to. It was the first time I had been to a concert at that venue. It was small and quaint but it wasn't worth the money I paid!
The show was great! Robert Cray is very talented musician, and still sounds amazing! Only complaint was the seating at this venue. We were near the back, which was not really all that far from the stage, but the problem is that the chairs do not descend, as in a theatre. They are all at the same level, which means you can't see anything in front of you, except for people's heads!
i had never been to talking sticks before nice quaint arena not a bad seat in the venue. robert cray what can you say just keeps on ticking, hasnt lost a step just awesome played a few of his tunes off the new album and alittle of the old. I could of sat there all night went way to fast. If you havent seen robert you better do it while you can. My son went with me had never heard of him before says its the best concert he ever saw. Not bad for a first time.
Robert Cray was an excellent Professional. The showroom was great !
Excellent small venue. Sound quality was excellent. Although Robert Cray only played for 1hr & 15 minutes, he played his next song with little delay and small talk with the audience. Very passionate guitar player.
