The Robert Cray Band in Concert
When it comes to live performance, The Robert Cray Band like to get right down to business. Though they're led by one of the most distinctive blues guitar stylists of his generation, and the rest of the band bears a similar amount of instrumental authority, they don't like to showboat. Flashy licks are simply not what Cray and company are all about.
Instead, they cut right through to the emotional core of every tune — whether they're playing the classics that put Cray on the map, like "Right Next Door" and "Smoking Gun," or killing it on covers of tunes by the likes of Bill Withers, Bobby "Blue" Bland, or The Mississippi Sheiks. Cray and his cohorts use their mighty musical prowess in the service of the song. Sure, you'll hear plenty of fluid guitar solos, but at a Robert Cray show you'll never hear a single unnecessary note — in other words, everything he and his band play on stage really matters.
The Robert Cray Band Background
Robert Cray did more for the blues in the 1980s than anybody other than Stevie Ray Vaughan. He started out small with a string of early-'80s indie albums, but by the middle of the decade the singer/guitarist's blend of blues, soul, and rock 'n' roll influences made its way to the mainstream with a major-label deal that introduced the world to the game-changing Strong Persuader LP.
Between his supple grooves, soulful vocals, storytelling songs, and stinging guitar solos, Cray emerged as the blues hero the '80s didn't even know they were waiting for until he came along. Over time, Cray's sound has become simultaneously deeper and more expansive. His reputation has grown to the point that he's an esteemed elder statesman of modern blues, a winner of multiple Grammy awards, and an artist as venerated today as any of his heroes were when he was growing up and learning his licks.

Great artist! Amazing stories, voice, guitar, bass, everything!!
Nice venue overall however, Seating was a little cramped. The band was tight! Robert Cray is an amazing singer!
Robert Cray is ageless. His vocals and guitar playing was phenomenal. The venue was spectacular with the smaller wood frame building helping with the acoustics. I will definitely come back to Penn's Peak for a show.
Great venue! Robert and the band were on point, as they always are!
First big props to everyone for making this happen. The venue is on top of a mountain and it was snowing hard. The band sounded amazing. Great acoustics. Music was as tight as ever. I would have liked to hear more of the hit songs from way back. But I get that he's trying to sell the newer tracks too. The stage lights were annoying. They kept pointing a group of VERY bright pencil beam lights at the audience making it uncomfortable to look at the stage. I saw no point in this other than the lighting person maybe was mad at the audience. Also, can you ask the drunk girl who sat in front of me to stop with the never ending WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO and waving her hands in the air. It's a blues show, not motley krew. Thanks for a great night!
Robert Cray is an excellent gutarist. I personally felt the sound system needed work. Very distorted at the higher levels and the speakers seemed too concetrated giving a point sound feeling. I wish he included someone on horns to allow his older compositions. Chairs in the center section were uncomfortable and very tightly packed together. Seating is determined after sale so best to visit the box office to pick seats
Robert Cray and his band were spectacular and Penn's Peak was a fabulous venue. Top notch all the way around.
My wife and are were very disappointed as we could not attend the concert due to the inclement weather! We thought the show should have been cancelled.. What a bummer!
All amazing musicians. Show was 1.5 hours-one set with one encore so I wish it had been longer but Robert is phenomenal. It was fun to see the keyboard player had a smile on his face the whole show. Bring earplugs:)
Robert was in his groove, and the band was tight! Great show! Three-song encore. Worth every penny.
His voice is still there and his guitar playing is phenomenal.!
Will call and package promised was a nice experience. Seats were terrific. Escorted there. The venue is terrific anyway I have always felt. Prices for quality performers is truly appreciated. I love BergenPac. The package has not yet arrived that was included in the price of the tickets but I did get communication it is on the way. Would love to see more iconic blues artists like Robert Cray. Great show!
Robert Cray and Jeff LeBlanc were both very good!!
My sister is 13 years older than me. She turned me on to Cray at BB Kings in Manhattan 30 years ago when I was 28. There's no words for how great he and his band mates are. Ten thumbs Up !!!!!
I've been following Robert Cray for almost 40 years. The "album" Showdown! with Johnny Copeland and Albert Collins was the catalyst. I am so glad that he is still touring and playing - I see him every time he comes to the Boston area. His phrasing in minor and major blues, fat clean tone (high treble and middle/very low reverb) mind-blowing vibrato solos, controlled use of hammer-ons and pull-offs, soulful, silky vocals, song writing and storytelling are living art. Unlike many of his guitar contemporaries today, he is not a greedy player, self-absorbed, and does not rest on his laurels. Even the way he embraces the guitar is distinct. He plays "in the moment" with heated passion, high spirit, and intelligence making his music live and fresh. It is abundantly clear that he loves what he does...Albert Collins, John Lee Hooker, Freddie King, and BB would be proud.
Wonderful show! Great theatre! Mr Cray has such high energy He keeps it moving with no breaks and in the end you know you have witnessed a great performer!
We were moving and grooving in our seats! We bought the shirts and cds. It felt like family. Very cozy and intimate. His voice is still sexy. I loved the barefeet and polish. Awesome concert!
Show was great volume just right for me. Could hear the singing which I like
Love me some blues. He is a true artist and legend
