Last night's Halford one-off engagement was really lackluster, unenergetic and almost somewhat sad. Halford came onstage and seemed rather morose or depressed; was not what I remembered when I saw him with his solo band ten years ago. I understand he's around 60 now, but his energy level was well below what I've seen in the past few years when he has fronted Priest. With a concentration on material from Crucible, I was disappointed to not recognize any Priest of FIght songs, which he usually does when traveling with his solo band. I find Crucible to be a rather weak and droning album, so that colored my opinion of the performance. The opening band was pretty crappy, which was upsetting because apparently Halford handpicked them. He was only selling his "Metal God" clothing-line shirts there; no shirts were actually "Halford" shirts. He might have been run down or sick too. I saw him sipping tea and he hacked a few times. We ended up leaving the venue about 10 minutes early disappointed. Maybe it was just a bad night; maybe he was just sick, but either way: his setlist was not good. I do look forward to seeing Priest perform one last time in the future though, but truth be told: the Metal God's heyday is very much behind him now. Remember the good times.
